Very welcoming staff, clean rooms and beautiful views
Breakfast and food in the restaurant was very good
Obscure glass in the window of room giving nothing to look out onto, especially as the room facilities states view! Noise from corridor when doors closing.
Very clean, quirky hotel,breakfast excellent.
Very cosy and
I don't usually leave feedback, but I feel this venue has a great deal of potential, and honest feedback can help support improvement.
The location is beautiful, and the rooms were clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. We stayed in the Courtyard accommodation for one night and chose to dine at The Smithy during our stay.
Unfortunately, our dining experience was underwhelming. The arancini was enjoyable; however, the rigatoni arrabbiata was very disappointing. I paid extra to add chorizo, but the dish contained only a single piece. The sauce was also quite watery and lacked flavour. To the staff's credit, when I raised this with our waitress, the issue was acknowledged and appropriately reflected on the bill, which was appreciated.
There were also several menu items unavailable during our visit. On more than one occasion, we selected dishes or drinks only to be informed that they were not available, which limited our choices and detracted from the overall experience.
The bar area also lacked atmosphere. I feel it could benefit from additional entertainment or activities, such as board games, a pool table, or other features that encourage guests to stay and enjoy the space after their meal.
Throughout our stay, all staff members were friendly, polite, and welcoming, which was a real positive and helped create a pleasant overall impression.
While there are certainly some strengths here, particularly the accommodation, location, and staff, I left feeling underwhelmed by the overall experience. Also we couldn’t find a dog waste bin near the accommodation we did ask the maid but she was also unsure and recommended we leave it outside the room.
At present, I would be unlikely to return or recommend the venue to others unless improvements were made in the areas mentioned above. If you’re looking for a special night away, I’d maybe consider other options in the area.
Out of the way. Seclusion.
Kettle & coffee machine in the cupboard which was difficult to access, as the door wouldn’t open fully due to the bedside table. Small design flaw.
Access to the property from the South, isn’t signposted well. Coming from Barnard Castle way, it’s fine.
