We recently stayed in Boaty, one of the hotel’s hideaway huts, and it was one of the most relaxing and memorable getaways we’ve ever had.
From the moment we arrived, everything felt peaceful and idyllic. Nestled beside the beautiful lake and surrounded by trees, Boaty offered a unique sense of privacy and tranquillity. Waking up to the sounds of nature, rowing across the water, and relaxing in the private hot tub while taking in the stunning surroundings made for a truly romantic experience.
The accommodation itself was fantastic – comfortable, well-equipped, and thoughtfully designed to make the most of the beautiful setting. Every detail helped create a calm and luxurious atmosphere. The skylight above the bed was a wonderful addition to the hut, which also came with a fully stocked complimentary minibar and snacks. Nice touches.
Every member of staff we encountered was warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful, ensuring we felt looked after throughout our visit.
The food was equally impressive. The fish in Hook was delicious (we had the katsu cod and plaice), with excellent quality ingredients and great service to match. Full breakfast in the morning was superb as well.
If you’re looking for a romantic retreat where you can completely switch off, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a touch of luxury, we couldn’t recommend Boaty highly enough. An incredible experience from start to finish, and we’ve already booked to come back in the summer.
Highly recommended! 🌿🚣♀️
I came in for food on friday evening, myself and 3 friends, I was served by an older lady named Michelle. She asked if we were staying at the hotel, when we told her no we were only coming in for food this evening, she scoffed and asked us for a last name for the tab. We ordered our drinks, they took 25 minutes to arrive, the bar was busy so we didn’t mind. However our food took over an hour and was quite frankly disgusting. We ordered 2 pizzas, 2 salads and some fries and everything was cold, tasteless and quite frankly inedible. We asked Michelle if there was anything she can do for us, she offered to remake the food and give us a free round of drinks. We decided we didn’t want to wait another hour for more food to then come back out and still be inedible so we asked for another solution. She was really rude to us and said we’re asking for too much. She stated in her opinion we should pay the bill and leave if we didn’t want the food remade. We asked for the round of drinks to be made as takeaway drinks, we only wanted teas and coffees, we were told that you didn’t have takeaway cups so were unable to provide this for us. When we asked to remove the service charge upon paying the bill, Michelle gave us a really dirty look and asked why, when we explained we felt it was unfair for us to pay this, she uttered something under her breath, we couldn’t quite make out what she said, but it was something along the lines of “cheapskates”. We are extremely disappointed with the food and service of this restaurant and we will not be returning.
Our family party of nine had an absolutely brilliant bank holiday weekend at The Fish. From the moment you enter the drive you can tell you are in a special environment. The location is breathtaking, the buildings exceptional, the restaurant and bar first class. The opportunity to enhance the stay with outdoor experiences was something we enjoyed taking up.
Tiny thing, but being charged service with then a further gratuity option on the bill to decline or accept is potentially awkward. Fortunately our service was so good we were happy to top up, but it’s not an approach I’m personally comfortable with.
A lot of green space
Terrible WiFi connection
It would have been helpful if we could have reached our room in the Stables without having to negotiate stairs. My wife is disabled and uses a wheelchair.
The estate was beautiful with stunning views
I didn’t like the service charge being added to every bill
The food was unbelievable. The best roast dinner I have ever had. Nothing was ever any bother to the staff. All so helpful, kind and very informative. The facilities were amazing and the hotel caters for everyone from couples, family's and even dog owners and if you are a fan of nature then this hotel is for you. Listening to all the different birds in the morning was so peaceful. Could not recommend this hotel enough
I couldn't get the kettle in the room to work but they may have just been me.
The estate is beautiful. The hotel felt cosy and we absolutely loved how dog friendly it was. The views over the valley are stunning. Our room in the Stables was very cute and comfortable. We loved the nice touches for our dog and for my husband’s birthday. The staff were super friendly.
We were a little bit disappointed with the food. We had dinner the first night and the food could be improved. The cocktails were really good however.
Breakfast was similar. The buffet was nice. The cooked food was good but nothing special.
A wonderful hotel in the country side not far from Broadway UK in the Cotswolds. I can't say enough good things about the staff, Max, Katie, Grace, Grace and others whose names unfortunately I've forgotten. We were in a Coach House Suite with plenty of space. Dining in the hotel restaurant was great. A great base to explore the Cotswolds!
All the food was delicious!
The staff were lovely.
Loved the comfortable outdoor furniture
Loved the access to green field and views
Nothing really , we loved it and it fulfilled our needs to have relaxation, peace and good food!
Lovely setting, clean, comfortable rooms, very friendly staff! Great breakfast and dinner at the Fish was delightful. Scrabble in the bar one evening was very fun.
Pillows were eh, so requested different ones which were there for us when we returned for the day.
Everything... we love going to the fish its ao relaxing and staff rooms and food excellent..
Only small complaint would be breakfast. Great cooked breakfast but need to sort out coffees and teas . We got our cooked breakfast before we got out tea coffees.....
The grounds were excellent for short walks or longer in to broadway. The bar and restaurant were very convenient and very comfortable
The WiFi was poor but hey we were on a break so who cares
Me and the OH recently had a night here at The Fish and had dinner in Hook and breakfast the next morning.
Lovely location which feels secluded and far away from the maddening crowd. Easy to find with good sign posts and the instructions given by the hotel in their welcome email.
Arrival and check in was smooth, easy and completed quickly before being directed to your accommodation.
We went to the bar for a drink and were immediately greeted by a staff member and given bar menus however they then disappeared and we were just left in the bar area sat there waiting. Around 15 minutes later another guest went to find a staff member as they wanted their drink refreshed and once that had happened this staff member then asked if we would like to order anything.
The hotel quite clearly says it’s dog friendly and I would say that’s an understatement, we did not have a dog with us and definitely felt like the odd ones out especially in the bar and lounge area where everyone else had one or more dogs with them (all very well behaved). Dogs are however not permitted into Hook, the restaurant.
The accommodation is to a good standard and there was nothing ‘missing’ that we thought would be standard in this level of hotel, however you do have to be qr code trained as all the details on things such as heating etc etc are accessed through qr codes in your room. We are not particularly qr code savvy and therefore didn’t find this out until the next day when I asked how could I have done something and was told scanning the qr codes was the gateway to all knowledge.
The hotel accommodation is spread out and some of the pathways / roads / steps between your accommodation and the main lodge are quite steep.
We enjoyed our nights stay here and the food was very enjoyable, it was an experience and although we like dogs there were just too many around for us.
