Classic and homey, wonderful staff large rooms.

My daughter and I stayed there for 4 nights. It was just spectacular. Everything was very quiet and clean. But the best part, was without a doubt the staff. Very friendly and helpful. We asked Mario for restaurant recommendations and all the recommendations he gave were very good. Thanks a lot for the nice atmosphere. We enjoyed our stay very much.

The location was pretty good. Several of the tourist sites are within a mile or so. The people here are very friendly, and breakfast was included. It was more of a continental breakfast though with lots of bread-type foods (and a killer cappuccino). I certainly want to say, if you are looking for an American-style hotel, this is not that place. It is a typical Italian hotel: considered middle of the road for accommodations by European standards, but not that high by American standards. It occupies the 3rd floor of an older 4-story building. The rooms are cleaned daily. It was extremely hot during our time here, and thank goodness these rooms have air conditioning. Back in the USA we take that for granted, but over here, as in other European countries, it is considered a bit of a luxury, as is ice. I asked for ice water at one of the restaurants and they just gave me a blank stare. This hotel has a single 2-person elevator that is shared by all floors. We were barely able to fit ourselves and our luggage in it to come to the 3rd floor.

Anyway, this place was very acceptable. For $360 a night, this is what you get here in Rome during the busy travel season. Keep in mind: no restaurant (other than breakfast), no pool, no business center, etc. We got a suite with a small couch and TV. The bathroom had a single sink with no place to put your stuff (picture a pedestal sink), a very small shower, a toilet, and a bidet. It has an armoire to hang your clothes up in, and some drawers to put your stuff away in.

Loved the staff. Clean. Good decoration.

After my two-night stay at Hotel Oceania, I wrote a five-star review. I was sincere in that assessment. The hotel offers an intimate experience with genuinely personal service. The staff is attentive, and unlike large big brand properties, Hotel Oceania provides a quiet, home-like comfort. I stand by those comments. However, it is what I learned after my visit that compelled me to rewrite my review.

I had arranged two transfers through the hotel. One from the port to the hotel upon arrival, and one to the airport from the hotel at departure. The hotel quoted a price and indicated after I inquired there would be a 5% surcharge for credit card payment. The transfers were handled by a third-party vendor, RIFRA Service as confirmed by the hotel’s proprietor, Stefano Loreti. What I did not know at the time and only discovered upon returning home, is that surcharging customers for credit card use is not permitted under Article 62 of the Italian Consumer Code. The law was designed to protect consumers, so they do not pay more just because they use a credit card.

I contacted the hotel to express my concern that I had been taken advantage of. The response is precisely what warrants the rewriting of my review. Mr. Loreti wrote the following response:

"I am not entirely comfortable with the practice either. Even when disclosed, it leaves a sour note at the end of an otherwise pleasant experience, and that is not something I take lightly."

Those comments are why I feel compelled to post this revised review. Awareness of an inappropriate practice passed on to guests without correcting it is not consistent with what I feel is a five-star experience.

We loved our stay at Hotel Oceania and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. From the moment we arrived, we felt safe, comfortable, and very well taken care of.

Our room was exceptionally clean, with adequate air conditioning, plenty of space, and a modern, updated bathroom. The breakfast was one of our favorites from the entire trip, offering a great start to each day.

A special thank you to Mario and Carla, who were truly highlights of our vacation. Mario was incredibly patient, friendly, and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. He helped arrange taxis for our group of five, provided excellent recommendations for places to visit, and was always willing to assist with any questions we had. His kindness and dedication made a lasting impression on us.

Thank you to the entire team at Hotel Oceania for a wonderful experience. We would gladly stay here again.

Hotel Oceania is a wonderful place to stay in Rome! I have stayed here twice with family. The location is great, and the rooms are charming and clean. This is a family owned hotel that feels like a little home away from home in a big city. The friendly staff go the extra mile to help you make the most of your time in Rome, making recommendations and sharing stories about the city. The continental breakfast is hearty and generous. I will stay here again the next time I visit Rome!

Great location! Convenient to subway, bus, and train station nearby. Staff were excellent! Very helpful and available 24/7. Room was nice size, shower good. Air conditioning very strong! King sized ze bed with very firm mattress. Well apportioned breakfast with good variety—continental. Would stay here again!

Hotel Oceania was in the most perfect location for us during our stay. Easy to walk to majority of attractions or catch a cab or one of the stops for Big Bus Tours. Safe location and very quiet. One block over also has great restaurants that are open late. The accommodation also had a/c (a must during the summer months) and also provided breakfast at a small charge. The rooms were very clean and tidy. Absolutely felt like home here! The staff was so friendly and helpful. Truly made our stay that much more special. Thank you!
