Great stay. Staff was amazing. Great location.
From the moment we checked in Olivia (Liv) became a part of my daughter's and my vacation. She did everything possible to make our stay fun. We were in room 409 which is a double queen, has chest of drawers, desk and nightstand. The matteresses and pillows were supper comfy. I usually have a very hard time sleeping away from home and was amazed by how well I slept all four nights of our stay. Loved going down to the lobby first thing in the morning to enjoy my complimentary coffee.
One evening my daughter #niffypoppins wanted to work in the lobby on a watercolor painting she is doing. Both Olivia and Clare (the manager) gave their approval. There was an event going on and so many people stopped by to watch her paint. (She's usually out painting in coffee shops)
And while I'm mentioning Clare...Salem was doing some work on the city water lines, and Clare came around to the rooms personally to update everyone with the details.
We took advantage of having two places to eat in the hotel and I'll review them later-Spoiler-enjoyed both.
This was my third time staying at The Hawthorne. First time was in the economy room, which is small but served the purpose. The second time was in the double queen with one and a half baths which was perfectly lovely. This third time was in the double queen with one bathroom, ( the shower was in one room and the toilet and sink were in a room right next to it-which was not a problem and could actually be very convenient if someone is taking a shower and someone else wants privacy on the potty!) THIS is our favorite room and will be what we'll be booking next time we come back.
Honestly, I can't imagine coming to Salem and not staying at The Hawthorne. The people were all friendly, the rooms clean and fresh...It really is my perfect place to stay in Salem.
Frequent the hotel, have stayed overnight by history even though we're within walking distance. The Tavern and Dining Room both have charm and appeal, food is delicious, consistent. The Fruit & Cheese Platter is yummy, serves 4-6 + for a tasty appetizer and they'll include Gluten Free Toast Triangles if anyone in your party identifies need.
Loved an old hotel and breakfast
All was good
This hotel is well located just off Salem’s pedestrian street. There were numerous eateries and attractions within walking distance. Like any historical building, the room didn’t have the latest of everything, but it was clean, comfortable, quiet, and well maintained. The lobby was spacious and inviting. The restaurant had great food. The staff were friendly and helpful.
svery nice lobbyiwthcoffee

The location was perfect, and the hotel itself was beautiful
The room was quite small, the bathroom door barely cleared the bed when open.
Friendly staff and perfect location
The location is perfect. The staff is friendly and helpful. It has the Salem vibes.
We had to leave!
"The hotel is in the center of the city, within walking distance of all the main attractions.

The lobby was very inviting from its complimentary lemonade to comfy couches. The front desk was helpful in giving us directions to the different museums we planned to visit. Our room was spacious enough for three adults to share two queen beds. The bathroom was tiny but surprisingly comfortable as there were places to set a brush, makeup, etc. The shower had good water pressure and hot water. The beds were clean and comfortable. They have a noise policy about was easy to get a good nights sleep. I’d recommend this hotel to those visiting Salem.
