Lovely old pub that had everything a hotel chain would offer but personable, great food and lovely staff
Pros:

The location was great. Staff were welcoming and helpful with any questions we had. We used the bar had lovely staff who were very attentive and recalled drinks we had when reordering. Suggestions for food were fabulous. Breakfast was very nice and again different staff but so lovely and chatty about the area and interesting features around. We would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

Lovely place. End reduculous email.
Pros:

Very comfortable. Great location. Friendly. I enjoyed my stay.

Cons:

Rediculous email suggesting that if you dont fill in your home address in the email return before you stay you would be breaking the law. No doubt this is costcutting to not have to provide staff to fill it in on your arrival. This may be very small thing but I suspect I would not be alone in being upset by that. Overall, the place is gorgeous and the location is fantastic. Just stop those emails!!

Very tired and unclean central hotel
Pros:

The location was fine on the Main Street with plenty of parking across the road so ideal for travelling and a x1 night stay but the hotel itself was a let down cleanliness wise .. the bar area was good and the breakfast was superb

Cons:

The cleanliness left a lot to be desired
The hotel rooms area was all very dark grey walls and paintwork very poorly lit so you had a sense of gloom from the start
It was a foisty smell as we ascended numerous stairs to our room on the very top floor only to find our room was also painted in very dark grey woodwork and furniture only lightened a little by paler grey walls .. the bathroom was very smelly and had not been properly cleaned for months
The muck and dirt behind the bathroom door was well and truly stuck in!! Our toilet roll holder was loose ( which we mentioned at check out) so hopefully will not fall off on the next occupancy.. the bed was x2 singles made into a double so left a very hard ridge down the middle despite the comfortable mattress either side of the ridge!

Pros:

Clean comfortable room and good food.

Cons:

The room was next to the pub toilets, so a bit noisy late in the evening. The boiler (?) below was also loud, through the night.

Nationality really does matter in 2026
Pros:

Location

Cons:

General attitude towards guests waited over 25 minutes to be served for food but never happened watched as others were seated and served after me.
In fact the waitress walked passed me on numerous occasions.
Told the manager l would go next door to other pub to be served with food he's reply was nothing.
No apology was offered at any point.
I believe if l spoke Scottish things may have been different english people are not welcome at this establishment clearly.

A fun and cosy stay in the heart of Melrose
Pros:

This is a characterful place to stay in the heart of Melrose! We enjoyed a warm welcome and a great meal complete with real candles! Breakfast was also delicious. I thought it provided good value for money overall. Free parking was only a few minutes walk away.

Cons:

It was somewhat noisy on a Saturday night which is of course not the fault of the management, just something to be aware of when choosing where to stay. The property is a need of a little freshen up in places (stair carpets) but certainly nothing that marred our enjoyment.

Good value hotel in the centre of Melrose.
Pros:

This hotel is in a great location. Room was a good size and bed was comfortable. Free parking in the street right outside.

Cons:

Room was a bit basic. Windows were dirty and didn’t open properly. Carpets were very dirty.
