Guerneville is like any old property it just needs some """ T L C """
It had a great community feel, and we met several people from out of town and got to make breakfast together
The property on the outside and inside needs to be cleaned. There was dirt and dust all over the inside. And several cobwebs needed to be cleaned up on the website. It says there’s a view of the river, but you could only see a little bit so thinning of the trees would be nice to see the river.
Location was great
Would be a way better experience if they just had a cleaning company come in! The main area is riddles with spider webs and dust. Being antique and being dirty is not the same. Room was obviously not vacuumed and shower wasn’t cleaned. Not ideal
Cool, funky, fun. Friendly, relaxed owner, lots of fun things to do: ping pong table, canoe on river, paddle board, read, hot tub, cook in kitchen, camping, volleyball, basketball, etc.
Only real minus would be proximity to road. Cars driving by constantly…but annoying.
The location is great.
The room listed makes you think the view is to the river. It's a small room five feet from the highway. No TV and bedroom was dirty, missing light bulbs, and the bed made loud noise when you move. The room showed a bathtub but we had a shower smaller than the closet with an open drain hole. One pillow each and flat. The headboard looked like a crime scene. In the picture I provided, look how dirty the walls are. No staff on sight. For $300.00 a night I felt taken advantage of. I have never been so disappointed. A lot of things go wrong with rooms and travel but be honest with what you advertise.
Great access to a dock and canoe, beautiful large lawn, hot tub and rustic feel were the best parts.
Dark hallway, dirty under the bed so looking for a dropped sock was not pleasant. Was ok but not a good value.
This reminded me of my trips to Austria - a once grand home that has been converted to a lodge, in the best possible way. The owner, Al, was always available if we had questions. We appreciated access to the kitchen, beautifully decorated living room and grounds. The family hotel room was perfect for us with comfortable beds. But the grounds and waterfront sealed the deal. We will be back!
The proximity to the town, the views, and the staff
The building had no AC,
Perfect location, Jacuzzi was nice, amazing grounds/bookroom, shared kitchen. Al was an amazing host... it was like staying at a friends place.
Very quint 1900s inn.
It is hard to give this only one rating.
If you are visiting the area for a vacation and experience this is a 10+
It is a throw back to a by-gone era of a true 1900 guest inn. Al Cooper and his wife had done an OUTSTANDING job of preserving a legacy experience that is hard to find in todays commercialized hotels and inns.
If you are visiting for a business or sporting event (I was doing a 90 mile cycling race) - rate it at 7.
This is because of the proximity to the road with traffic noise which calms down after about 12am.
All of the rooms are bed rooms - no TVs, microwaves, refrigerators...etc.
Guests can access the common generous kitchen and facilities.
Go here is you want to enjoy the experience - not if you have a demanding agenda.
Close to road.
This is a classic old log lodge, in the style of a National Park lodge, or an old wayside inn. Lovely common room with well- loved leather armchairs and a rock fireplace. Rooms are clean, recently painted and comfortable. If you want a giant TV, there will be none on the premises. Go out on the deck and look at the redwoods and the river.
You have the run of the kitchen to cook breakfast or anything you want. Staples in the pantry, somebody always makes the coffee in the morning.
Nothing, really. The owner is very laid-back, and does just about everything but clean the floors, so if that isn't your style, you might want to look elsewhere.
They did an offer breakfast. But the host advised us that there were eggs in the refrigerator if we wanted to cook them.
The windows on the outside were covered with spiderwebs. There were no screens on the window. I killed about 10 bugs in the room. There was no air conditioning, but there was a fan in the room, but if you open the window more bugs would come in.
The owner Al was amazing, super cool guy! The inside was decorated so well, very rustic and felt like a camping experience indoors. Love that we were able to use the kitchen and he provided eggs, bacon, and cheese!! right on the river .and there’s a campground as well fire pits, and smokers and barbecues. Al lit candles, and the fire in the main fireplace for us when it was just me and my friend on a girls trip, it really added to the ambience and felt like we had the whole place to ourselves!
