One night and wouldn’t bother again
Pros:

Nice location

Cons:

Old worn out room , stains on walls and around windows, it was raining the day we arrived and windows were open with rain coming in on to electric fan in window, mattress had stains on it with no mattress protection on the mattress, curtains had stains on them, dust in extraction fan in bathroom and cobwebs around the building inside, dust hanging from ceiling extraction vents over pool and cobwebs around pool side just needing a good refurbishment all around

Have stayed at Tre-Ysgawen, several time over the years, a bit tired in places, but generally good.
Pros:

Breakfast was very nice as usual, it was quite busy on Tuesday morning, but the staff came very quickly, with tea and taking orders, all very good under pressure. Dinner on Sunday was very nice, all staff very smiley.
Bed very comfortable, slept well.

Cons:

Never a good look to see black tape on worn carpets.
In the room, the net curtain had marks on it, at the bottom, could do with cleaning. Also the room door was a little difficult to lock as the latch in the door frame had been replaced but a screw had come out, which meant it moved, so you had to move it to lock the door. Mentioned too reception when leaving.
Should think about replacing baths with walk-in showers. Difficult for people with mobility issues to get in and out, without assistance.

No toilet overnight is poor!
Pros:

Most things apart from toilet in room not working

Cons:

Were were allocated a room upon our 9pm arrival with a defective WC..flush had failed..yes HAD failed. No other rooms. Night Porter tried to fix whilist we waited in bar ( comp drinks..thanks).. Returned to room and flush failed on first attempt to use. No toilet all night.
We told hotel reception on exit and management have not been in contact. Appalling. Clearly complacent, indifferent, etc. What action are you planning to take? Get a grip!

ok great staff lovely food
Pros:

great food
very comfortable room and bed
lovely location
easy access

Cons:

having tripped over the door stops in the side bar area and having received a broken nose and cut nose with severe bleeding the staff were very helpful.
however later we did not see any further member of staff or management come to see if i was ok or even offer an apology
even though some staff agreed that the door stop was inappropriate and should not be there
i have been in pain since the incident and have two black eyes as a result
i will repeat the staff at the time were great not the management.

also the spa area could do with a good clean especially the sauna seating and door

Objective Failure of 4-Star Standards & Unauthorised Accreditation
Pros:

I booked a stay at Tre-Ysgawen Hall & Spa under the explicit advertised description that it is a 4-star country house hotel accredited by Visit Wales as 4-Star. Under the official UK Common Quality Standards (AA/VisitBritain/Visit Wales), a 4-star grading mandates strict operational requirements that must be met. This establishment systematically failed to meet them.

Objective Service Failures:

- No 24-Hour Reception: The front desk closes completely at 9:00 PM. 4-star criteria strictly mandates a 24/7 staffed reception desk.
- No Room Service: Room service was entirely unavailable during my stay (24-hour room service with hot meals is required for a 4-star rating).
- No Luggage Assistance: No proactive luggage service was offered on arrival or departure.
- The general quality of the property and staff must be above average in all areas to be considered 4-star. However, this was not the case. The property exhibits tired, worn décor. Housekeeping left uncleared wine bottles in public spaces for two consecutive nights, hand towels were not replenished, and a dining table utilized a stained tablecloth. The advertised EV charging facilities were non-functional. In-room toiletries were budget supermarket brands (a used Carex bottle) rather than high-quality provisions, and food quality was poor (including microwaved and uncooked porridge and heavy coffee grounds in the cafetiere).

Following direct confirmation from Visit Wales, it was verified that this hotel currently holds no official accreditation or star rating at all. Management subsequently admitted in writing that they are unrated however, as of the date of posting they are still claiming to be Visit Wales accredited on booking web sites.

While management issued a full refund after being presented with these facts, consumers should be aware that the "4-star" status advertised on major booking channels is entirely unverified and, in my opinion, undeserved.

Hugely disappointing
Pros:

Staff were friendly and helpful... just not enough of them.
Spa/pool was pretty good but can be busy at times with local members.

Cons:

This property is marketed as a 4-star hotel but fails to meet the mandatory UK Common Quality Standards. There is no 24-hour reception (desk closes at 9:00 PM), no room service, and zero luggage assistance. Housekeeping was severely lacking (uncleared bottles left in public lounges for 48 hours, stained tablecloths), and the bathrooms are stocked with cheap Carex hand wash. The advertised EV charger did not work.

Most critically, Visit Wales confirmed that this hotel has no official star rating or accreditation. Management admitted the error under legal pressure and issued a full refund. Do not pay luxury prices for an unrated, poorly maintained property.

Lovely location, building and staff, but not in great state of repair for the money.
Pros:

Breakfast was good, with plenty of dining space in a decent setting. The bathroom was lovely in our room. The food was good and on the whole the staff were lovely. Surprisingly, some of the younger lads were superb in how helpful they were.

Cons:

Everything was slightly in disrepair. The bath leaked into the bar, the curtain tie backs were slightly falling off the wall, some of the decorations were clumsily repaired after being broken. Some of the staff were also conspicuously more interested in their phones or gossiping about their daughters-in-law, their latest hairdye choices, or which golf courses they planned to go to next, than cleaning up the mess they (yes they) had left behind them.

Pros:

Good facilities, large room, very hot and stuffy but the weather was unseasonably warm. Nice breakfast. Perfect location for our needs. Lovely grounds to wander.

Cons:

The electric car charging didn’t work.
The bar staff left a little to be desired- couldn’t do any non-alcoholic cocktails when asked, another day said could only do a pornstar martini or sex on the beach, requested the pornstar martini but what I got was nothing like a pornstar martini!
