Disappointing and underwhelming
Pros:

The grounds were gorgeous

Cons:

Was very tired looking . Receptionist we only seen once throughout our stay .
When we entered the room it was a really musty smell which must have been apparent because the windows were already open .
We had been travelling a Fair few hours so went straight to the bar to get something to eat and drink. After waiting a good 10 mins to be served ( one slow staff member) was told food stopped serving at 3.30 although the room info said 4pm. So we then had to drive around for 10 mins before finding a Morrisons where we sat in the car park with a meal deal. Not what we imagined when booking a 4star hotel .
After going back to the bar for a few drinks my phone ran out of charge with my payment details on and asked if I could put the lemonade on the room tab. The answer was no so had to go back to the room to charge our phone to buy a lemonade .
We were going out with friends on the evening so was glad after the impression we had already gained from the short time we had been there .
My husband thought he saw a stain on the sheet but when he lifted the sheet there was a large tear in the mattress .
Next morning we woke up to no toilet paper . For a 2 night stay we had been left with a quarter of a roll and no spare . Had to go to reception (no staff again) so asked one of the maids who directed my husband down the corridor and turn right and get it himself off a trolley . There was no hand soap to wash your hands either . There was also a loose handle and screw left on the bathroom shelf !!
Left midday to attend a wedding . Again saw no staff on the desk . Came in late that night .
Next day went to reception to check out and guess what no staff!! Left the key behind the desk
We have photos to prove all the above as this hotel is not a 4 star hotel
We would really like to hear back from the management

Disappointed- not a 4 star luxury hotel
Pros:

The location was somewhat secluded but the building and gardens are beautiful

Cons:

We were told at "Spa" reception ( no one at hotel reception) that our room would be ready at 3pm. Clearly our room had not been touched for days/weeks. Milk sachets- some were out of date and the basket they were in was very stained with spilt coffee. Very dusty on surfaces with at least 3 spiders/cobwebs
No shower gel or shampoo in dispensers in bathroom and had to keep asking for some.Filthy bathroom floor and toilet brush
Eventually shower gel arrived 4 hours later - too late to shower to go to dinner.(staff had to go and buy some apparently!) Shampoo never arrived and by 3rd day I had to go to spa reception and ask for some myself. Not a great first impression. Left note on door for room to be cleaned and all we got was the bin emptied ( but not the bathroom one) and a new toilet roll. Room needed hoovering and I thought bathroom would be cleaned if we asked for a "room clean"
Not what I would expect for an advertised 4 star hotel - clearly way below standard.
Didn't use gym or spa so maybe that's where all the money is spent as there is hardly any staff anywhere else.

Pros:

The staff are lovely. Having the use of the spa facilities and gym at no extra charge is unique these days and much appreciated It's the second time we have stayed and we're never disappointed

Cons:

The bathroom in the room is very tired and could do with a refresh. The shower was leaking but it didn't take away from our stay as we were only there for one night

Big chandeliers and fancy curtains but falls short on basics
Pros:

Pool/ spa facilities DND grounds/ garde

Cons:

The hotel is nice enough but unfortunately it fell short on some basic stuff I.e. . The shower head in our bathroom was broken off/ missing, so the only way to operate it was with pliers, despite the fact that we stayed there 3 nights staff didn't fix it. Also one of our windows wasn't working properly, on the first day our room wasn't cleaned despite the fact that we requested it, and when it finally got cleaned on the second day they didn't replenish toilet paper... There is no point having big chandeliers and fancy curtains if you can't get the basics right....

The Tre-Ysgawen Hall, Anglesey
Pros:

My wife and I booked in for 3 nights there, last week and at first glance when we arrived, it all looked impressive. Located in a beautiful setting. Plenty of parking spaces, and we parked right next to the main reception entrance. Received a very friendly greeting. Lovely interior with huge baronial main hall and stair case. We had a very large roomy bedroom, with a big four poster bed and a large bathroom. Very encouraging. Our first evening we dined in the main restaurant which looks very pleasant. However, from there on in, we ended up being very disappointed with the hotel. The food was ok. That's all I can say about it. Frankly, for what it was, I felt it was overpriced. I ordered a steak for my main course, which for a Rib Eye was small and had a lot of grissle in it. It cost £29. Nevertheless as I say, the rest of the food was alright, but not superb by any means. Anyway, that was the least of our disappointments.

The following day after touring the island until mid afternoon, we returned to our room to find that whilst it had been valeted, drinking glasses had not been replaced, and the coffee, sweeteners, tea spoons, etc, were not replenished. Also the chrome waste bin in the bathroom was still covered in the stains that were there when we first arrived. On top of which, the very large wardrobe doors made a terrible loud squeaking/creaking noise when being opened, which was extremely annoying. I'm sure just an application of WD40 would have sorted that problem out. And that was the trouble with this hotel. A lack of attention to detail. It got worse. In spite of putting the 'This Room Is ready To Valet' sign on the door before we left at 9.20 the following morning, we returned in the late afternoon, to find our room hadn't been touched, at all. Bed still unmade. Bedroom bin still full. No coffee, sweeteners, and no toilet paper. Nothing. After trying to call down to reception at least 20 times when each time the phone cut off after two rings, my wife went down to reception to ask when our room would be done. The receptionist told her she would get it sorted. Well after 30 minutes and nothing happening, I started getting angry and went down to reception myself. I was then staggered to hear from the receptionist, the the valeter 'had gone home'!! I could not believe what I was hearing, in a supposed 4 star hotel. At which stage I gave the poor girl a bit of an ear bashing. I then said, we're not bothered about the bed being made up, just get someone to replenish everything, including the toilet rolls. 5 minutes later, the receptionist herself turned up with all that we required. The fact that she came up, suggested that they are sorely short of staff. The receptionist informed us the head housekeeper would come at about 7pm and we could point out our concerns

The head housekeeper did turn up at our room at 7.00pm, to hear our complaints, when my wife pointed out to her that there was dust accumulating in the corners of the wardrobe, lower legs of the four poster plus behind the television and three lightbulbs blown in the chandelier. Also, that on the fire escape walk way, directly under our windows was a large pile of carpet cuttings and underlay. The head house keeper said, 'Oh yes. I've been trying to get some one to deal with that for days. You really couldn't make it up.

Indeed, the hotel is in need of some tender loving care. Neither my wife or I are the types to go finding faults with hotels we stay at, but we are used to staying at 'high end' hotels. This hotel falls well short of that description. We noticed some of the beautiful drapes and curtains with rips and tears in them. And lightbulbs not replaced in the chandeliers. Also the wonderful large swimming pool had algae or something on the surrounding grid to the pool, dirt in the corners and peeling paint. The breakfast room had dust on the picture frames and some of the chairs were stained.

Our overwhelming feeling was that management was trying to run the hotel on a shoestring. Cutting corners on staffing levels, especially in the cleaning department. On a positive note, we found all the staff, especially in the restaurant and spa, extremely friendly and enthusiastic. And although our stay at the Tre-Ysgawen Hall didn't ruin our trip to beautiful Anglesey for the first time, it certainly didn't enhance it.

Incidentally, on our return home I received a standard email from 'The Reception Team' at the hotel, asking for our thoughts on our stay and for any suggestions as to how they could improve. Which they said would be very helpful. I replied with pretty much what I have written in this review on the 19th July. As of yet, I have received no reply.

Very disappointing.
Pros:

Leaving early the next day.

Cons:

Reception - very indifferent greeting.
The food in Romana’s was just about average, although the service was good. If this is the best Italian restaurant in Anglesey then go for a curry.
We had to search for staff when sitting outside. Full ashtrays on garden tables were a put off.
The in room facilities are poor - half empty nondescript toiletries, no tissues, half a loo roll (and when we asked for more it was just slapped on to the reception desk), and no water.

Cons:

We reported a cleanliness issue. On our arrival into our room we found the bath sink hole clogged with human hair. We reported this immediately. Although reassured it would be cleaned immediately. It wasn't.

Cons:

I went with my elderly father and unfortunately the shower was over the bath making getting him into the shower very precarious and the small towel rail over the end of the bath was definitely not attached adequately to rely on it being sturdy enough for any support

Disappointed
Pros:

Was very disappointed. The hotel didn't meet the advertised expectations. It was very tired and worn. It wasn't clean. The downstairs ladies toilets had ripped wallpaper, dirty mop and bucket left outside. There was used cups and saucers left in the library the 2 days we were there. The room had cobwebs on the ceiling, the curtain had a hook missing so was just hanging there. The body wash and shampoo hadn't been replenished , the dispensers were dirty. No hand soap. It looked like the bathroom hadn't had a througher clean for a long time. It looked like a child had made the bed. No ironing board cover. The pedestal fans were covered in dust. All this was reported to reception. On a positive note all staff were lovely as was the food, restaurant and swimming pool. However we won't be returning or recommending it. Don't how it achieved 4 stars.

Pros:

Breakfast. Excellent gym, pool, spa facilities and grounds
