From 1st January 2023, a tourist tax of RM 10 per room per night is applied to all foreign guests. This tax is not included in the room rate and must be paid upon check-in. Guests with a valid Malaysian Identity Card or valid permanent residents MY PR Card are exempted. In line with the Malaysia government’s decision to implement Sales and Service Tax (SST) of 6% effective 1st January 2022, this tax is not included in the room rate and must be paid upon check-in.
Guest must present the same credit card used to guarantee the booking when checking in / making payment at the hotel, hotel will not accept any third party credit card.
All of our guest rooms are equipped with a Bacfree water filtration system, ensuring clean and Halal drinking water directly from the tap for your comfort and convenience.

La location e la piscina, lo sta molto carino, la colazione ottima, con tante scelte e cibo espresso.
The facilities in the room.. The staffs are all helpful.. The location is good, walking distance to the food court area near the Padang Kota beach..
Not to say I don't like the foods.. There are variety of foods for breakfast.. , just that we stayed for 2 nights with 2 days breakfast at the hotel but mostly the menu are almost the same.. Would like to suggest to have like a different menu list from 1 day to another especially on "Penang" kind of dishes.. Tq in advance

Niets, moest ik toch 1 puntje van kritiek geven dan was de matras van het bed aan vernieuwing toe.
Excellent location near the ferry, a bit away from the ultra touristic area of Georgetown, but neverless with easy access to all the points of interest.
Large room with excellent facilities, welcome basket in the room, comfortable bathroom.
Very nice swimming pool quite appreciated for a pause while discovering Georgetown on foot.

Royale Chulan Penang is located right in the heart of Georgetown, making it a great base for exploring the city. Many famous attractions and some really good food spots are within walking distance, which was a huge plus.
We stayed one night in the Deluxe Double Room. The room was comfortable and came with all the usual amenities. A nice surprise was the complimentary local Penang snacks, which was a thoughtful touch and gave us a chance to try some local treats. The bathroom was spacious, clean, and well-equipped with everything we needed.
Breakfast was enjoyable too. The roti canai was soft and fluffy, paired with a really flavourful curry. They also served cakoi (Chinese-style fried dough sticks), and there was an egg station where you could order freshly cooked eggs.
Although the room is listed as spacious, the layout makes it feel much smaller than it actually is. The biggest disappointment was the working desk. There were plenty of power sockets, but because they were positioned too close to the edge of the table, my normal laptop charger couldn't even fit into the plug. I ended up working from the bed instead, where the only usable socket was located. It felt like a simple design oversight that could have been avoided.
The breakfast was generally good, but the cereal tasted a little stale. Considering the room rate, I was expecting a slightly more polished experience overall.

I specifically requested a birthday decoration in advance to surprise my husband. The person in charge, Joel, acknowledged my request and noted on that , so I naturally assumed everything had been arranged.
However, when we entered the room, there was no decoration at all. Not even a simple birthday note. The receptionist also never mentioned anything during check-in, which made us believe everything was ready.
I contacted Joel again to ask where the setup was. His only response was that a staff member would call my room. When she did, instead of apologizing, she immediately became defensive and started giving excuses.
She explained that birthday setups are only done during “turn down service” at around 5.30pm, where housekeeping closes the curtains and tidies the room. Honestly, that explanation doesnt make sense. I’ve stayed at many hotels, and I’ve never experienced housekeeping entering a room after guests have checked in just to prepare a birthday surprise.
When I asked what the birthday decoration usually consists of, she replied, “A swan towel and a fruit basket.”
Let’s be realistic.
A fruit basket and towel swans are standard romantic welcome amenities. They can easily be prepared before the guest checks in so the room is already ready upon arrival. If Royal Chulan Penang’s policy is to only prepare birthday requests during turn down service, that should have been communicated clearly before our arrival, especially since I requested it in advance and it was acknowledged.
What disappointed me the most wasn't that the decoration wasn't done it was the complete lack of accountability.Not a single sincere apology. Only excuses.
If my request was overlooked, just admit it. Mistakes happen. If the hotel couldn’t accommodate the request, simply inform me during check in. I would have been disappointed, but at least I could have understood.
The poor communication didn’t stop there.
Family suite was huge, better than the pictures showed. The CAT free bus stopped outside the door, very convenient for the town centre.
Breakfast was excellent with a varied choice offered.
Little plate of cakes left every evening was a lovely touch.

Pool was salt water and towels available to use. Was a little disappointed with this area as was expecting to spend a bit of chill time here during our 5 days but didnt it feel very inviting. (Maybe just me?).
