Pleasant enough to book again if I ever go up that way
Pros:

Generally quite good in relation to all the points listed before

Cons:

There wasn’t a toilet scrub and the windows didn’t open very wide which was a bit unfortunate because of the hot weather

AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Pros:

Our stay at the Gilson Hotel was one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had.

From the moment we entered our room, it was obvious that it had not been cleaned properly. The bed sheets had multiple brown and yellow stains, there were food stains on the bedding, food debris was left on the floor, the toilet seat was visibly stained, and the bathroom floor was dirty with hair and grime. The furniture and other surfaces were also covered in marks and smears. We took photographs immediately as evidence.

Pros:

During our stay I went to reception to request some toilet roll as we had run out and also some milk as there were none when we arrived...

The staff member was VERY reluctant to give me them due to us checking out in 3 hours time. After asking him 3 times, he handed me the toilet roll and milk cartons. I was desperate for the toilet and just made it back to the room in time!!!!!

We will not be staying here again and will also not be highlighting this venue to our company and all staff within going forward as we have been doing til now

Many thanks

Simon

friendly, safe, clean, thoughtful staff
Pros:

I was a bit worried about staying here after reading the reviews online , however my stay was excellent , the reception staff were lovely, I accidentally locked myself out of my room as I forgot my key, and the staff helped me straight away he was very kind and reassuring, my room was HUGE , the double bed was HUGE, and the room was perfectly clean. I stayed here for a night for my best friends birthday night out and we genuinely had a lovely time, it wasn’t to loud , there was the odd siren from ambulances which is expected at any hotel and no noise from other people drinking while out. The hotel was super quiet and relaxing. The room was cheap and generally very safe, I would definitely stay here again :))

Cons:

Check-in took 25 minutes: First there was no one there and no way to ring. Finally, a grumpy lady came and asked us for a deposit of £100 because we might damage the room. The furniture in the room is jealous of ikea and hardly worth a hundred quid. The street is fairly noisy in front of the hotel. The key card had a problem and we needed a new one; by chance we met someone just leaving the reception at that point.
Check-out was much better. A polite man tried to help us with the deposit return.
But over all, I am sure similarly priced options (e.g. on the other side of the street) are better.
