The location was terrific! Right on the lake and next to the bridge. It was very fun to watch the boats. The free breakfast was delicious. Staff was very helpful. Would stay here again.
The room was comfortable but small. The booking.com room description did not match the room. I specifically chose this room because it said it had 2 actual beds. It did not! It had a king and a pullout. The pullout took up all of the small space.
This was our first visit to Duluth and staying at South Pier Inn made it a perfect trip! This hotel is wonderful in so many ways : the staff were very kind, beautiful views of the bay, really nice bedding, towels, and robes provided. The weather was warm and we didn't use our fireplace but it is a great feature to have. We were in a junior bay view room and it was just the right size with large windows and a cozy feeling. Excellent Duluth Coffee Company coffee was provided and delicious complimentary breakfast pastries. We were fortunate to sit outside before check out with an upclose view of the aerial lift bridge and have a great conversation over coffee with one of the owners, Dale. It was interesting hearing about the beginnings of the inn and local history. Betty, his wife, has added a nice touch with beautiful flowering plants and gardens. We loved the family feeling of this place and South Pier Inn deserves many 5☆☆☆☆☆ reviews! We want to return next year!
Excellent location by the lift bridge and harbor. Just a walk across the bridge to Canal park zone. Rooms were clean and staff were very nice and helpful.
Lovely room near all fun canal park establishments.
Lovely location, even ran into the owners while having breakfast and they were so kind. Highly recommend staying here for the calm peaceful scenery and kind, personable owners.
Everything was excellent.....thank you
Lake side would of been awesome
Great location and vibe. Can highly recommend for anyone wanting to watch the port in the morning.
We were in Duluth for Grandma’s Marathon. This hotel was a great choice - super close to Canal Park where the race finishes and also close to the expo and buses to the start line. There’s lots to do in Canal Park. The continental breakfast was great. Our room was clean and a good price for 5 nights. I was worried we’d hear noise from the lift bridge but with the windows closed it wasn’t an issue at all. I would stay here again.
We enjoyed our stay at the South Pier Inn on our first trip to Duluth. First thing we took the walking tour with Rand Sola, one of the Inn’s owners, and learned all about the history of the area--so that’s why the Aerial Lift Bridge was designed that way. We loved sitting on our deck and watching the massive ore freighters (some that were 1000-foot long “Lakers”!) sail down the canal. The bed was comfortable, the room spotless and the hosts friendly and helpful. Free homemade cookies for the afternoon! On the last evening, we were sitting at the fire in front of the Inn when Rand Sola joined us in conversation. What a delight!
I had been wanting to stay here for a long time. The closeness to the bridge and the area looked so inviting. I was not disappointed at all in my stay. The room was clean and the bed was so comfortable. The jacuzzi was relaxing to watch TV and relax at night. The outside chairs were fun to sit and watch the boats come in. Positioned so close to canal park, we spent time in the shops and at restaurants. The staff were very welcoming and helped us warmly when we had accidentally locked ourselves out. I would highly recommend a stay here.
I've always enjoyed South Pier Inn. Proximity to the lift bridge, watching the boats go by offers a unique experience. Staff is friendly.
Very nice area, great shopping and restaurants, plus our Hotel was the best!! And the people running it were very helpful and answered all of our questions
Have never been in such a luxurious room. Wanted for nothing.
Breakfast was good once I was informed it was from scratch and produced generally locally. Loved the location. Next time, will save up my pennies and try to book a room with water view.
Nowhere on the canal open for hot breakfast.
The only place I will stay in Duluth!
We just love it, and part of it is that you can tell the building is well loved. The customer service is excellent, and it is all the little things that truly stand out-there is soap in all the dispensers, the heat lamp in the bathroom works, the board games that we borrowed from the office all had their pieces intact. We love the simple breakfast, the coffee is amazing, and having the snacks available at no charge is such a small thing, but is soooo nice. They had a free walking tour on the last day we stayed, met the owner, who was very nice, had a great personality, and great information about the history of the canal and Duluth! Lord willing, we will be back soon!
Great location by aerial bridge with attentive and welcoming staff!
Second time.
Nice walking tour from Randy.
Nice staff
