Review title: Fawlty Towers Meets I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

Well, where do I begin? I’ve stayed in some questionable establishments during my travels for work, but the Orrell Park Hotel deserves an award for turning a simple overnight stay into a full-blown comedy of errors.

After a long day at work, all I wanted was to check in, have something to eat, enjoy a drink and get some sleep. Apparently, I was asking for the impossible.

First challenge: Actually getting into the hotel!

I arrived to find the front door locked. Brilliant start! I hadn’t realised I’d booked an escape room experience, only in reverse.

After ringing several telephone numbers, I eventually managed to get hold of someone who came to let me in. Unfortunately, the lady spoke very little English, making communication extremely difficult. She then couldn’t find my reservation on her paperwork, despite the fact I’d booked and paid through Booking.com.

Apparently, having a confirmed booking wasn’t sufficient evidence that I was actually supposed to be staying there!

The staff appeared to be running around like headless chickens, with nobody seemingly knowing what was going on.

Second challenge: Waiting for the general manager to arrive!

I was then left sitting in reception for another 30 minutes waiting for the general manager to make a grand entrance, presumably travelling from another postcode.

Eventually, he arrived and I was finally allowed access to the room I’d already booked.

Third challenge: Food and drink. Or rather, the complete absence of both!

Restaurant? CLOSED.

Bar? CLOSED.

Anything remotely resembling hospitality? ALSO CLOSED.

At this point, I was beginning to wonder whether I’d accidentally booked into an abandoned building rather than a functioning hotel.

And then came the grand finale… THE BEDROOM!

Well, what an absolute treat.

Spokojna okolica, dobrze skomunikowana z centrum. Jestem zadowolony z wyjazdu.
Pros:

Śniadania całkiem smaczne, kilka pozycji do wyboru, w tym typowe angielskie śniadanie, czy tost z jajecznicą i łososiem, lub jaja w mundurkach. Dodatkowo można wziąć jogurt z dodatkami.

Very good value for money
Pros:

The B&B looked a little tired since our last visit 6 years ago, however the staff are really welcoming, breakfast was excellent and cleanliness of room good. All in all very good value for money. The entrance could do with a freshen up and a warmer feeling, it requires redecoration and did put me off a little when we first arrived, however the staff and service made all the difference to our stay.

Cons:

More general maintenance required, redecoration etc.

Abbiamo scelto Orrel Park Hotel perché aveva un garage privato e a 5 minuti a piedi dalla stazione dei treni che in 20 minuti ti porta a Liverpool. Si trova a 6 km dal centro di Liverpool in una zona molto tranquilla.
Colazione varia ed abbondante. Stanza un po' piccola ma per due giorni è andata bene.

Metterei qualche mensola in più in bagno

Good location. Evening meals were great. Breakfast inc.

Cons:

Room v hot despite fan although temperature outside not hot on day we stayed.
Tiny sink with shelf over it meant unable to have a proper wash over the sink and lots of water on floor.
