Heel vriendelijk personeel, bereidwillig om te helpen, prima en propere kamer, iets (te) kleine badkamer, maar voldoende groot. Goed ontbijt om de dag mee te beginnen. Perfecte ligging. Heel fijne en gezellige bar/zitkamer. Echt heel erg fijn.
De verlichting in de kamer had beter gekund. Maar werd verbeterd zodra we er iets over zeiden door toevoeging van een schemerlamp.
Great location facing the park, friendly staff, and a charming historic building.
Poor cleanliness, the Wi-Fi didn't work, and the sound insulation was practically nonexistent—you could hear everything from neighboring rooms and the hallway.
No bathrobe or slippers. No green tea, just 2 blacks and one fruit, no coffee.
They block money on check-in ("just" 50 pounds).
What a wonderful afternoon tea. The range of teas on offer was splendid. We followed Tiago's advice and were richly rewarded. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were fresh and delicious. The chocolate bon bon made a fitting end to a scrumptious afternoon.
Had a lovely room overlooking Parker’s Piece. All staff very friendly and helpful. Evening meal was really good in the Restaurant. Delicious puddings! Good choice for breakfast. Then the wonderful complimentary trip around Cambridge and villages. Zane was so informative and professional in his role. Learnt lots of interesting facts. Loved it. The car purred along. Totally smooth with excellent driving.
Breakfast
2nd day not cleaned, umbrella invoiced even left in the room and talked to the réception, not friendly réception people
We booked the Gonville Hotel for its location and it having a car park as we were traveling to Cambridge for the first time to meet up with friends for a meal.
We arrived around 11:15am after driving down from the midlands, (The web site states you can use the car park on your day of arrival any time after 11am which suited our requirements). We parked the car (plenty of available spaces), and went into reception to let them know we had arrived. Obviously we knew we could not check in to our room until after 3pm, and were told that was no problem, and to come back after 3pm to be allocated our room.
The girl on reception was very friendly and gave us directions to walk into the city center to have a look around Cambridge.
After a sweltering day (The hottest day of the year.) looking around Cambridge we returned to the hotel hot and sweaty just after 3pm.
Unfortunately on our return the hotel booking in system had gone down so we could not get into our room, and we were asked to wait in the bar or garden whilst they got the system back up and running.
We had just ordered drinks for the two of us, when the receptionist came into the bar with a token for two complimentary drinks, unfortunately we couldn't use the token for those drinks as cocktails were excluded. After an hour we still weren't able to get into our room so had the two complimentary drinks (Two rounds of drinks we didn't really want, (one round free), as we just wanted to get into our room for a siesta before meeting up with friends.
Around 5pm we were told that the system still wasn't up and running but were taken up to our room and let in. By this time it was to late for a siesta, only time for a quick shower and change and straight out for our meet up with friends.
After our meal in Cambridge we returned to the hotel and were able to check in this time, and finally get our room keys.
The room was nice, (A fridge would have been nice to have put our bubbly present for our friend in) though unfortunately we were unable to sped much time in it, only a quick shower and a nights sleep.
Breakfast the next morning was OK, my only complaint was that egg wise there were only scrambled eggs, which I'm not a fan of, so no eggs for us, fried would have been more to our liking.
The next day we did manage to book onto the complimentary hotel Bentley tour, which was lovely (Recommended if staying here.)
A nice hotel, unfortunately on our visit due to unfortunate issues, we would have been better staying the night in a cheaper B & B and had a more relaxing afternoon rather than a rushed shower and no siesta.
Nice location, with the bonus of a car park, but due to he checking in system being down it did put a damper on our stay due to being rushed when we eventually got into our room.
Comfortable room very good location
Buffet breakfast was poor
Très bien situé, personnel vraiment très gentil
Rien
We recently stayed at the gonville hotel and what a fine establishment. The hotel offers a complimentary tour of Cambridge in one of their Bentley during your stay. Our driver was Mike, Mike gave us far more than a simple ride, he delivered what we felt like a personal history of Cambridge, filled with insight, stories, and genuine passion for Cambridge his knowledge is remarkable, and the time passed far too quickly because we were so engaged.
It's rare to meet someone who is not only excellent at their job but truly loves what they do. Mike is one of thoes people, and he made our visit even more memorable.
We hope that more travellers who stay at the gonville hotel get the chance to experience a tour with Mike
The location was perfect, The staff were very friendly. The room was tastefully decorated and clean. We got a free trip in the Bentley around Cambridge which was fantastic. When we arrived we told the receptionist why s we were visiting, we then got a birthday card and chocolates delivered to the room.
When we got the chocolates the member of staff said it was customary to give the staff a chocolate, e offered and he took one then said the champagne was on its way which we never got. This member of staff was highly inappropriate and we complained.
The bedroom layout was poorly designed making sitting at the desk, opening the wardrobe and somewhere to make a cuppa very difficult.
Thank you for the lovely stay. Loved the hotel
The hotel’s complementary Bentley ride was excellent! Zane, my driver, was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Throughly enjoyed my 45 min trip around the city. I definitely recommend this service! Thank you again Zane!
Rooms are lovely
More coffe machines as big wait and que in morning
Really disappointing experience at the Gonville.
50% of the starters unavailable.
25% of the mains unavailable.
Terrible service from start to finish.
For a hotel that markets itself as premium, you’d expect basic organisation and decent customer service. Instead it felt chaotic, understaffed and like nobody really cared. Definitely not worth the price.
The strangest hotel experience I’ve ever had. There is a complimentary Bentley service you can book. However 4 of the 6 starters are unavailable in the restaurant as are 2 of the 7 mains. The desserts are not correctly described and the hotel is woefully understaffed. There is an FnB Manager (food n beverage) who is too important to speak to the hotel guests and a night manager that thinks it’s funny when you point out there is a massive queue at his bar at 9.45 at night. The bar staff get confused if you order more than 1 drink, yet there are a few staff members that are clearly very good at what they do. Quite bonkers for a Bank Holiday Saturday night (and there’s no food deliveries on the Sunday).
Nice hotel in a good location. Friendly. Helpful staff.
