My family and I had a wonderful experience at The Spectator in Charleston. As soon as we pulled up to the entrance, the valet, Tyler, greeted us and helped us get our bags unloaded. We went inside to check-in and the receptionist was gracious and welcoming. She introduced us to one of our butlers, Will, who showed us up to our room. Will spent several minutes helping us plan an itinerary for our trip and pointed out some "must see" attractions in Charleston. He made us feel very welcome and at home. The room was very clean and our minibar was stocked with water, coke, iced coffee, and sparkling water. There were also snacks like chocolate covered nuts and raisens, goldfish crackers, pb filled pretzels, and others. The warming rack for towels was a very nice addition to the room. I'm very picky about beds, but these met my expectations and provided a wonderful nights sleep. We placed our breakfast order on the card provided in the room, which was delivered on time by another butler, Darryl, the next morning. Darryl was the sunshine to start our day. His positive attitude and willingness to help with anything we might need was much appreciated. Everyone at The Spectator came off as authentically wanting us to enjoy our stay. Many hotels make visitors feel like a burden, but The Spectator makes you feel like you matter. The location is excellent, right next to the market. Despite not having an on-site restaurant, the breakfast was good and better than I was expecting. Keep in mind you are within a couple of blocks of 10-20 restaurants, so eating is still convenient without having to drive somewhere. There isn't a pool or workout room, but that wasn't what we were there to do. Overall, a wonderful experience! I have no reason to stay anywhere else next time we visit Charleston.
We found ourselves once again visiting Charleston, this time to attend the christening of a dear friend's precious child. The Spectator has been our go to hotel for our last few trips because it's less like staying at a hotel and more like coming home every time we walk through the front doors.
This hotel is consistently wonderful, and it's been a few years since I've taken the time to stop and say thank you once again to the amazing management and staff for the terrific job you do. Your exceptional hospitality is the reason we continue to return, and we truly appreciate everything you do to make every stay so special.
I recently spent three nights at The Spectator Hotel in Charleston with my daughters, and I truly cannot say enough about what an exceptional experience we had. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, every aspect of our stay exceeded our expectations. Without question, this was the finest hotel experience I have ever had—and that includes the hotel where I proudly worked for over 20 years.
The hotel's location is perfect. It is situated right next to the Charleston City Market and within walking distance of everything we wanted to see and do in the historic downtown area. We rarely needed our car because everything was so conveniently located.
One of my biggest priorities when choosing a hotel is cleanliness, and The Spectator absolutely excelled in this area. The entire property was immaculate. Every space—from the lobby to our room—was spotless and meticulously maintained. It was evident that the staff takes great pride in keeping the hotel in pristine condition.
What truly sets The Spectator apart, however, is its staff. I have never experienced such genuine hospitality, professionalism, and warmth. Every single time we walked through the doors, we were greeted with sincere smiles and questions like, "How was your day?" or "What do you have planned today?" These weren't rehearsed greetings—they felt authentic, making us feel like valued guests rather than just another reservation.
Our wonderful experience began at check-in with Hannah and Emma. They were welcoming, friendly, and made us feel at home immediately. We were offered the cocktail of the day, and my underage daughter was thoughtfully given a mocktail so she could be included in the experience. It was such a small gesture, but it made her feel special and remembered.
The lobby itself was another thoughtful touch. Complimentary bottled water was always available for guests on the go, and there was even a jar of espresso beans for a quick pick-me-up. Although we didn't have the opportunity to dine in the bar, it had such a cozy, inviting atmosphere that we would definitely make time for it on our next visit.
Our first interaction upon arrival was with James, our valet. He was outstanding. No matter how many times we requested our vehicle, he had it ready in what seemed like less than three minutes every single time. Being able to come and go throughout the day without worrying about parking made our trip effortless.
One of the most unique aspects of staying at The Spectator is the butler service. Our first butler, David, immediately made us feel welcome with his warm smile and calm, friendly demeanor. He spent a considerable amount of time introducing us to our room, explaining all of the amenities, reviewing our breakfast options, and even providing a map with personalized recommendations based on the places we planned to visit. We saw David several times throughout our stay, and every interaction was just as pleasant as the first.
On our second day, we met Darryl, whose upbeat personality and positive energy instantly brightened our morning. Before heading to Sullivan's Island, I asked him where I could purchase beach towels. With a smile, he replied, "No need I will get everything read for you."
He assured us that they would provide everything we needed for a great beach day. Since we're pretty simple travelers, we mentioned just a few necessities. When we returned to the desk, he had prepared a beach bag filled with snacks, bottled water, and beach towels. He also offered beach chairs, sunscreen, and anything else we might need. We truly felt like royalty. It wasn't just the convenience—it was the genuine desire to make our day as enjoyable and stress-free as possible.
The Spectator Hotel has perfected the art of hospitality. Every employee we encountered made us feel appreciated, cared for, and genuinely welcomed. Their attention to detail and commitment to guest satisfaction are unlike anything I have experienced at any other hotel.
I would return to Charleston in a heartbeat, and I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else. In fact, I told my husband that the next gift he gives me should be a two-night getaway at The Spectator Hotel—just so I can relax and enjoy this incredible hotel all over again.
Thank you to everyone at The Spectator for making our mother-daughter trip one we'll never forget. You turned an already special vacation into an unforgettable experience, and we cannot wait to return.
This was our first time in a luxury hotel like this. Arrival and check in was smooth with no issues. We were offered a welcome cocktail which was a nice touch after traveling on the highway all day in the heat of summer. We were assigned a butler. David was actually the main one to serve us for most of our stay. Helped get us and our luggage to our room. Explained how everything is at the hotel. He even gave us a good dinner suggestion on our first night in town. They offer free bicycle rentals, umbrellas to borrow if needed, complimentary in room beverages and snacks restocked as needed. Turn down service was nice with a sweet cordial. Gourmet Continental breakfast that you get to choose each day brought right to your room. The portions were exceptional. We also had the pleasure of having Michelle serve us a few times and one day she packed us extra snacks to take on our outing. We really enjoyed the speakeasy style bar and lounge in the hotel. The bar tender Alan makes some great cocktails and bar bites. The hospitality of all staff members was above and beyond. The cleanliness of our room was superb. Everything was so amazing that it was like the comfort of being in my own home. Made for a very romantic week for my husband and I. Highly recommend this hotel and we will definitely consider it again when we visit Charleston in the future.
My daughter and I stayed here for our first visit to Charleston. I used ChatGBT to get suggestions on taking my 26 year old daughter on a girls trip to Charleston. The Spectator Hotel was a top suggestion, so I booked it for a 5 night stay. The hotel is in the perfect location for exploring Charleston. Just two blocks from luxury shopping and a block from the Charleston City Market. Each guest is provided with Butler service which was fantastic. David our Butler took such care in making sure our stay was comfortable. He steamed all our clothes, provided much needed directions and a map of the city, and even backed a beach bag with towels and sun screen for me and my daughter to explore the Isle of Palm Beaches. They restock your mini fridge every night with cold water, soft drinks, and iced coffee. The contents which come at no additional charge. The Spectator Hotel also offers complementary breakfast delivered to your room each morning with several options to choose from, including Gluten free. Each night you receive turn down service, and a special nightcap. We loved our stay here, and we will definitely return.
I've stayed in a lot of hotels over the years, and every once in a while you find one that makes you slow down and really enjoy being there. The Spectator Hotel was one of those places.
The biggest standout was the butler service. It sounds like something that could feel over the top, but it honestly just made everything so easy. Whether it was recommendations, little requests, or making sure we had everything we needed, the team went above and beyond in a way that felt thoughtful, not forced.
We happened to be there for jazz night on Wednesday, and it completely changed the atmosphere. Sitting with a cocktail while listening to live jazz was such a fun way to spend the evening and made the hotel feel even more special.
We also loved borrowing the complimentary bikes to ride around Charleston. It was one of my favorite ways to explore the city. Coming back to snacks waiting for us and ending the night at the speakeasy-style bar was the perfect way to unwind. The cocktails were incredible, and it quickly became one of our favorite spots during the stay.
The best way to end it all was breakfast in bed. It was one of those little luxuries that made us want to stay in our robes a little longer and enjoy every last minute before checking out.
What I loved most about The Spectator is that it feels personal. It's beautiful, the location is hard to beat, and every detail feels intentional. It's right in the middle of everything downtown, but more than anything, the people are what make it memorable. We had such a great time, and it's one of those hotels I'd recommend to anyone visiting Charleston without thinking twice!!
The property is beautiful, the staff were incredibly friendly, and helpful and the service in every part of the hotel was exceptional. Our suite was well appointed with a very comfortable bed and fabulous bathroom. Our butler Will was so helpful and insightful and friendly. He took the time to give us some historical information about Charleston and recommended several places to see and things to do, and he was also super helpful when we asked for restaurant recommendations. The bartenders in the bar were also great and the front desk staff were superb. They were so friendly and always had a great recommendation for anything we asked for. The gentlemen that took care of the valet parking were also great. Fast and courteous in not only parking but retrieving our car as well. This place is top notch and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I would happily recommend to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Charleston. 10/10 and 5 stars.
Nothing
Complimentary breakfast is delivered to your room at the time you specify the evening before. There were about 5 options to choose from for breakfast.
The staff and location are great. I’m glad we chose this hotel over the others we were considering.
This was my first time staying at The Spectator Hotel, and if I return to Charleston, it will not be my last! From the moment of arrival until checkout, the service and amenities were top notch! Our first Butler, Chuck, did an amazing job of escorting us to our room and explaining all the details of the hotel and room setup. The room was wonderful, very comfortable bedding, great bathroom and lighting and very clean. It was very hot during our stay, and I can honestly say this was the best air conditioning I have ever had in any hotel I have stayed, US or otherwise.
The entire staff did an excellent job and there is nothing I can say except a stay at The Spectator is a must if you are looking for amazing staff and accommodations!
What a wonderful hotel with an exceptional staff. They made our stay such a great experience.
The gym would be my only small dislike (definitely not a complaint). Just a bit small when sharing with another hotel.
We spent four days at The Spectator Hotel and it is now one of our favorite hotels. We have stayed at several hotels in Charleston, and this is by far the best fit for us. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The butler service is wonderful and the breakfast, included in the daily room rate, delivered to your room or to the lounge was perfect. For breakfast, there were multiple options to fit a variety of tastes - from continental to a full meal. The rooms were nicely sized, and the bathrooms were very spacious, and included double sinks. The hotel was quiet when we visited, the beds were comfortable and the valet service was fast, though we were able to walk to most of the spots we visited.
