Sadly a let down after a three night stay at the sister hotel in Sacred Valley. Although waiting on staff were fabulous we found the reception staff unhelpful. I had problems with the door lock and had to make 4 separate trips to reception to get things sorted. The room was very basic for the price of the stay.
Property is beautiful and one with nature
Food was disappointing
A fantastic experience worth every penny...On seven acres in a veritable forrest, the casitas and hotel occupy about three leaving the remaining four with trails to explore the beautiful surroundings filled with orchids, birds and tea plants..A quiet and relaxing excape from the town of Macho Pichu Pueblo and the crowds of Machu Pichu itself..We spent nights and made two half day visits to the acheological site taking in two different circuits..If you can spare the time and the dough, it is a great way to experience Agua Callientes and Machu Pichu...
The first thing to say is that the grounds are absolutely beautiful—lush, expansive, and wonderfully designed to showcase the property’s many attractions, including birdwatching, orchid walks, and other nature-focused programs. The setting itself is peaceful and memorable.
That said, the hotel layout feels somewhat disjointed, with some services located across the rail tracks from the main lodging areas. Going to breakfast or dinner requires crossing the tracks, which can be inconvenient, especially when trains are active.
The casita-style rooms vary in size and layout. Ours was clean, functional, and pleasant for the night, though the flow between the bedroom and bathroom areas was not especially well organized.
We found the food acceptable and the wait staff kind and well-meaning, but overall, the dining and service experience did not quite meet the standards we associate with a luxury hotel resort.
We enjoyed our stay at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel and would rate it 4 stars. It is a unique property in a beautiful setting and a convenient place to stay when visiting Machu Picchu, but in our opinion it does not deliver the level of service and amenities typically associated with a true 5-star resort.
We stayed in a suite with a private heated plunge pool, which was a wonderful feature. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. As expected in this lush environment, there are quite a few bugs, but the hotel does provide insect repellent for guests.
The included breakfast buffet was perfectly fine, though not particularly memorable. The included à la carte dinner, however, was excellent and one of the highlights of our stay.
Unfortunately, the spa experience was disappointing. My husband booked our massages months in advance, and when we checked in, the appointments were confirmed again for the following day. However, when we arrived at the spa, there was no record of our reservation. After showing our confirmation email, the staff did manage to accommodate us, but it created unnecessary stress.
The spa facility itself felt underwhelming. There was only one restroom available for guests, which was not well maintained during our visit and lacked towels. It was dirty. The massage rooms were separated only by fabric drapes, offering very little privacy, and conversations and treatments in neighboring rooms could be clearly heard. The facility was also quite warm with no air conditioning, and no intake form or consultation was conducted before the massage. Overall, the spa did not meet the standards we expected and was the biggest disappointment of our stay.
The pool area was pleasant enough, and one of the smaller hot tubs was nicely heated later in the day, though it was quite cold earlier. We also noticed a significant amount of debris and bugs in the pool, and there were only a couple of lounge chairs available. That said, outdoor pool facilities are limited in Aguas Calientes, and it was still a nice place to relax after visiting Machu Picchu.
There were also a few small service details that felt out of place given the room rate. For example, when I requested additional bottled still water, I was directed to refill my existing bottle at a water station in the lobby which was a far walk rather than being provided with fresh bottled water.
They did also transport our bags to the train station which was nice however my bags were late to arrive which was very stressful.
Despite these shortcomings, we did enjoy our stay. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are comfortable, and it is a good option for travelers looking to unwind after a day at Machu Picchu. We would recommend it with the understanding that it is a charming hotel in a unique location, but not quite the luxury resort experience its pricing and reputation might suggest.
Very luxurious … just what I was looking for after hiking the Inca Trail.
Nothing
Nice room, but the place is physically very challenging. We arrived in the evening and had quite a journey getting to our room. Long way from the front, with poor signage and lots of stairs (and no handrails) along the way. They delivered room service quickly. But then for breakfast the next morning needed to make the trek back to the front, only to find that the restaurant was off the property and across the railroad tracks. The logical path from the hotel didn't get you to the restaurant, so had to retrace and find another way. Came as part of a tour so it wasn't by choice, but I wouldn't recommend this place.
A mixed bag here:
This has a fabulous hillside location amongst well laid out gardens just outside the very centre of town.
It sits alongside the rail track which has trains coming and going from 5 am until evening time. But we had great rooms and the hooting of the trains didn’t bother us.
The collection service from the station (v close by) was excellent. They collect your bags and bring them up which is v welcome. I believe the reverse can be arranged for departure too but haven’t experienced this yet.
We had two suites are luxurious with good amenities. The hair conditioner is super and the complimentary insect repellent worked well.
The second room couldn’t check in until 5pm because the room wasn’t ready but we were expecting that to be more like a 1pm check in.
There are a few outstanding staff which didn’t go unnoticed.
Sadly, this is not the case in the bar and restaurant by and large. Service is very slow.
If you want a drink anywhere other than the bar, which is a short but steep walk across the train track, that’s not possible. That’s a shame. The hotel is missing out on income here. You can get the drink yourself but you’ve got to yomp up the hill with it. Tricky with drinks for 4. You either have the bottle or glasses but not both!
A bar based lunch appeared with minimal necessaries like cutlery, napkins, condiments but we were so hungry, we couldn’t wait for that.
Dinner took a 40 min wait before we were acknowledged. Most wines we asked for weren’t in stock although the wine waiter made a galant effort to find something to our taste.
The meal has small portions and it’s okay. Once you have your order in, 3 courses comes to you in a little over 35 mins.
Sadly the service lets this place down. It’s a bit ‘no’ until you convince them otherwise. For the money and the standard of the hotel per se, this needs to be rectified.
It’s an oasis in the craziness of the area but it’s over priced and the service lets it down. That’s a great shame. Improve the service then the fee would be worth it.
Location, customers service and cleanliness
N/a
We got a day spa pass and we were able to use their eucalyptus steam hut which was very very nice. The pools were not hot there were three separate small ones. We did visit the cafe the next night and found it to be very overpriced with very small portions.
This is a lovely hotel right near the railway station and centre so within easy reach of many restaurants. The rooms are lovely, spacious and clean. Breakfast is very good and excellent choice. Also ate dinner here which was again very good. Nice lounge area and beautiful forest setting.
We came to this restaurant for lunch following our trip to Machu Picchu. The service was adequate but a bit slow. The food was excellent. You are surrounded by the railway tracks but this adds to the charm.
Our family of 6 adults were lucky to stay two nights here, with one lovely relaxation day in between our two visits to Machu Picchu. The setting on 12 acres with the grounds preserving hundreds of butterfly, orchid, bird species is one of the earliest eco-resorts in the world. Granted, the rooms are up many steps and could use some upgrades, but supporting this endeavor is well worth it. The staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the quiet location, yet convenient to explore the little local town of Aguas Calientes. Great massages.
We had an absolutely awful experience at this hotel with our 3 young children. There is no way this is a 5 star hotel, probably more like a 2 star if I'm being generous. The rooms are dark, cold, damp, mold. You literally can't see while taking a shower. Floors were dirty and parts of the hotel look abandoned. We were so thankful to only stay here for one night. There are so many better places to stay in Agua caliente for LESS money. The best was they told me they would not charge me for a cot for my 7year old child. I confirmed 3 times that they would not charge me and they said free of charge. Upon checkout they charged me $270 which was over 50% the cost of the entire room. This is still in dispute with my credit card company as the crazy woman at the front desk was screaming at me and my kids and not allowing me to leave for my train until I gave her my credit card. I would not recommend anyone ever go to this hotel. The people working there were rude, unfriendly and left bags unattended multiple times.
A beautiful property with large rooms. We had the unexpected luxury of a heated plunge pool. However, not everything works simply. The safe is complicated, and required a maintenance man to assist us. Getting hot water in the shower, required calls to different staff until someone who knew what they were doing showed us what to do. The food in the restaurant was barely average and the service, frankly in the evenings was slow but was better at breakfast. The most expensive property we stayed in on our Peru visit and a long way short of the asserted five stars.
