Hyatt Place Boulder Pearl Street

We stayed August 14-16 in room 306. for college move in.

When we entered our room we saw large stains on the duvet cover. There was smelly food left in the fridge. Our first day out on Saturday our room wasn't cleaned or even clean towels ptovided while we were out for 9 hours. When I called and asked if we had to request cleaning I was told they were sorry, that the hotel was over booked. They scheduled someone to clean at 6pm while we were out at dinner. When we returned 3 hours later, it still wasn't cleaned. The front desk took my email and gave me the manager's card telling me I would get points for a future stay. I never heard back. We paid $400 night for our room.

I shared this review with the hotel manager via email, but have not heard back.

I have stayed here in the past and everything has been solid. This was a miss.

We loved the decor, breakfast, and location. Although there wasn't a microwave in our room, we appreciated that we could use the one in the breakfast area at night. We were able to find street parking for less than the parking garage. It was close to the University of Colorado campus where we attended the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. The next morning, we went to Estes Park, and it was easy to get to from our hotel. We would definitely stay there again!

Centrally located for access to roads and bike paths. One has to walk, drive or bike to get to a more diverse selection of restaurants and shopping. A little hike to Pearl St pedestrian mall. Like the free chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon

Breakfast was great

This hotel needs a major refresh if it's going to be part of the Hyatt portfolio going forward because there is nothing hiding about this. I would liken it to Holiday Inn Express.

While the front desk staff is nice, it is clear that the hotel is poorly managed. When I first made my reservation I was told by the front desk that it would be no problem to have an ADA roll in shower room with two queen beds.

When I called to confer my reservation for this room the week of arrival, a front desk manager told me that this type of room simply does not exist at this property. My only option was a king room with a roll-in shower or a two queen room that had a bathtub that would be unusable to me due to my disability. Thankfully the king bedroom had a pullout sofa that the front desk offered to have made up for us for my my mom to sleep on, which is not as ideal as having a real bed but a way out of the situation.

Upon arrival to the room, I noticed a few things were amiss. The sofa bed was not made up as promised, and the roll-in shower in the "ADA" room was not compliant with the 1990 and 2010 ADA design guidelines even though this hotel opened around 2016! While there were grab bars, the shower controls were not on the back wall as required, and there was no built-in shower seat that's also required for transient lodging properties (ie the ADA Title III legal term for hotels). When I brought this to the front desk's attention, they sent up a shower chair that was old and broken, which could have caused serious injury if I had attempted to use it. This required me to go back to the front desk and ask for a different chair which after some searching they were able to find and it worked out okay for me, but I still would not have been able to use this setup independently without help, which goes against the ADA guidelines. instead of being able to go out and enjoy Boulder, it took a couple of hours of this back and forth to get the basic accommodations I needed in place, which is super frustrating as I could have just stayed in an actually fully accessible hotel if I hadn't been promised an ADA compliant room here. This is just the major stuff, other things in the "ADA" room were definitely not designed with consideration for wheelchair users, such as the closet with its unreachable rod.

Beyond the Ada issues, cleanliness and maintenance is an issue at this property. Because tell me why when I undid the king bed covers the sheet had a couple of stains. At that point we just gave up and put an extra sheet that we had delivered for the sofa bed on top so I could have a clean place to sleep. Speaking of the poor housekeeping, our first full day there, no one came to clean the room all day. After I said something to the front desk the next day, they did clean the room but whoever did it took my nightgown for my bed and threw it in a random spot so I had to spend 10 minutes searching for it only to find it in a random corner. Who does that?!

Common area accessibility was a mixed bag. While entry and exit was easy, the breakfast set up was not ADA compliant and there was no staff around to help if I were alone. All of the breakfast plates were located in the highest possible cabinets. So the one time I went without my mom I had to recruit another guest to reach things for me as they were not accessible at wheelchair level. The breakfast itself was okay, no breakfast sandwiches or cute parfait cups like at other Hyatt Place locations I've stayed at. I did appreciate that they changed things out to avoid monotony, and I really enjoyed the little breakfast sausages.

The location of the hotel is a little far to walk downtown, but it was good for our needs because the Bustang to the mountains stops about a block away and getting downtown by bus is quick and easy. There is also a great crepe Cafe about a block away.
