Cons:

$1,000 a night should buy an experience — not a series of disappointments.

One thing upfront: the staff were gracious, attentive, and genuinely trying their best. None of what follows is on them. These are failures of property executives looking at profit vs experience.

The room: Advertised as "ocean view" at over $1,000/night. We received the last room on a side street wing, with a theoretical glimpse of water somewhere behind a dense wall of bushes. That's not an ocean view. That's false advertising. And sleep? Nearly impossible the air conditioning unit sounded like a diesel generator firing up every time it cycled on. Each kick-in jolted us awake through the night. A $1,000/night room should not have equipment that belongs in a construction site. I saw more folks complaining about AC in the lobby.

The restaurant: A wedding had taken over the better half of the property, the modern dining space, the outdoor terrace, the oceanfront areas. Paying hotel guests were confined to a dark, dated back room for every single meal. No warning, no compensation, no explanation beyond a shrug.

The pool: Disgracefully overcrowded, whether from wedding overflow or just poor capacity management, and completely unusable.

Bike rentals: A coastal hotel at this price point should have bikes on property. Instead, there's a third-party arrangement with an off-site vendor requiring a phone call and a 30-minute digital setup process just to maybe rent a bike. Inexcusable.

The layout: To get from the lobby to the pool, restaurant, or beach, guests must walk through the parking lot. A fundamental design flaw that undermines any sense of a cohesive, premium experience.

The location is beautiful and the staff genuinely care. But at $1,000+ a night, guests deserve what's advertised, uninterrupted sleep, access to what they're paying for, and a property that functions as a unified whole. This fell short on every count.

Fabulous Hotel
Pros:

First time going to Cape May and we had a great time.
Hotel was very clean and modern. We had an ocean front king room and it was perfect.
It overlooked the pool and had the best view of the ocean and cabanas.
Room was a great size, with a small kitchenette, which came in handy.
Staff was very attentive, our coffee machine broke and new one was sent right away.

We loved the location because it gave a more private feel.
It’s not in the mix of all the hotels, but still walking distance to everything.

The onsite restaurant The Pier House has amazing food and staff.
If you love deviled eggs, theirs are the best.

It was my husband’s birthday, we had balloons delivered. We also ordered some extras for the room
The staff did a great job setting everything up.

Parking is great, so many spots and most are under the hotel. So car stays cool on hot days.

Great everything except seats in rooms.
Pros:

We spent 3 full days at La Mer. Love the location, the restaurant and bar (incl: happy hour). Hotel is run well with a friendly staff. The pool is also a lovely private spot to relax. The rooms are clean and comfortable. My only major complaint is with the furniture: patios have two wicker type chairs which are quite uncomfortable. Inside the room there’s a table and two totally uncomfortable chairs (too narrow and will only fit your butt if you’re less than 150#). The room is a good size and has a totally empty corner that screams for a big comfortable lounge chair but unfortunately there isn’t one there..
When you’re hanging out in the room your only shot at being comfortable is to lay on the bed. If they fix the furniture and go for comfort they get 5 stars.

Overall it was nice despite some minor inconvenience
Pros:

I liked the condo. It was quiet the 1st night. Clean. Good amount of space. Good location.

Cons:

Jack hammers at 8am. No screen for balcony. Mosquitoes. Spotty wifi. Spin class with loud music ar 8am. Disposable coffee cups would have been nice too.

Hotel parties throughout the entire night, staff was not concerned at all, everything we asked for was a hard NO without even trying to make things work…

Terrible staff, moldy rooms
Pros:

Terrible staff, disgusting moldy room, old squeaking bed: A very rude desk manager greeted us Friday around 10pm saying the Expedia name was not accurate and we have to leave. Expedia explained the reservation was correct but she wouldn't honor it, so Expedia had to cancel it and desk manager had me book a different room directly on my card — $60 more expensive, queen beds instead of the reserved king bed. The room had tons of mold in the bathroom, both my girlfriend and I got sick the following day. Took multiple photos of the mold. Will certainly be reporting to the NJ Department of Health — curious if they'll keep their "AAA Cleanliness Award" after that.

Good relaxing vacation
Pros:

The staff was great. When we arrived we ended up in a wrong elevator and we had a hard time finding our room on the other side of the building. We asked a housekeeping staff for direction and she pleasantly walked us to our room instead of just telling us where to go. It was nice to see that excellent customer service. Thank you. The restaurant is also very nice with good food.

Cons:

Maybe a more visible sign on the elevators with room numbers.

Clean rooms, nice view, small inconveniences
Pros:

AC/Heat unit is loud. We turned it off since the weather was cool enough. Very spotty cell phone service in hotel room. I couldn’t make a call out or receive one. Front desk said that happens. Receiver on hotel phone didn’t work. We wanted to watch Philadelphia sports, could only watch the one on national channel. Rooms were clean. Restaurant was only open on the weekend off season.

Don't rent the penthouses
Pros:

Booked an ocean view "penthouse" for my mom's 80th. More like a small apartment. Don't let the pictures fool you. Elevator was broken and they told me the day of. This was a problem for my mother whose mobility is compromised. We tried to move to 2 ocean view rooms in the regular hotel, but found out their listed "ocean view" rooms are actually partial ocean view. Decided to stay with option 1 per mom's request. Only 1 parking space. There were 3 cars and no other parking was available that was not 3 hour meters. The rental space is directly over a workout studio that started classes both days very early (6 am and 7 am). I told the hotel about the classes and they said the owner of the studio "had been warned" about this and they would speak to her before day 2. I asked the staff to let me know the outcome of their chat with the studio owner but they did not call me back. The classes the next day started as scheduled. Oh, and there was full construction on the street below so you had to look over it to see the view. The hotel staff allegedly did not know this. While I would not recommend this "penthouse" to anyone, I did think the staff was friendly. They seemed to want to be helpful in every situation even if the follow through did not create change.
