I previously gave this hotel a perfect review following a week-long stay a few weeks ago. During that visit, the manager personally greeted me at check-in, the room was very clean, housekeeping was excellent, and the food quality was consistently good. Based on that positive experience, I decided to return for another week-long stay.
Unfortunately, this visit was significantly different.
I arrived around 1:00 PM and attempted an early check-in, not realizing standard check-in was at 3:00 PM. The front desk informed me that no rooms were available at that time, which I completely understood. However, it was unclear whether that meant my reserved room was simply not ready yet or whether there was a broader availability issue. I mentioned that I would get lunch and wait until check-in time.
After lunch, I waited in the lobby until approximately 3:00 PM. Since no one followed up with me, I returned to the front desk to ask whether my room was ready. The front desk associate stated they were very busy and would “look to see if any rooms were available.” Concerned that my reservation might not be honored, I politely asked whether there was any issue with room availability, as I needed accommodations for the evening.
Unfortunately, my questions were largely ignored. The associate continued typing without providing any communication regarding whether I should continue waiting, return later, or expect further updates. After several attempts to get clarification, I was simply handed room keys and given information about breakfast. At that point, it became clear that a room had in fact been available.
What made the experience disappointing was not the delay itself, but the lack of communication and professionalism during the interaction. In over 30 years of business travel, this was one of the poorest check-in experiences I have encountered from a customer service standpoint.
To be fair, the room itself was clean, and the housekeeping staff remained excellent and very pleasant throughout the stay. The property is also in a convenient location with nearby restaurants, Starbucks, and easy parking access.
Pros:
• Clean hotel and well-maintained rooms
• Excellent housekeeping staff
• Convenient location near restaurants and coffee shops
• Easy and clean parking facilities
Cons:
• Front desk communication and guest engagement were extremely poor during check-in
• No proactive updates regarding room readiness or wait times
• Guests attempting early check-in are not provided guidance on whether to wait, return later, or expect notification
• Staff interaction came across as dismissive and unprofessional
Suggestion for Management:
This issue could likely be resolved with better communication protocols at the front desk. If rooms are not ready, staff should clearly explain the situation, offer to hold luggage if appropriate, and let guests know whether they should wait in the lobby or expect a call/text when the room becomes available. Even a simple acknowledgment such as, “We’ll have your room ready shortly and will notify you as soon as possible,” would create a far better guest experience.
It is unfortunate because one negative interaction overshadowed what had previously been an excellent stay experience and likely affected my decision regarding future extended reservations.
Hotel was nice, food was great, staff was great but there is banging and drill noises every single night like clock work. Almost like someone is above our room hammering on stuff and using power tools. I can’t even agree that it’s the construction across the street cause they are out there all day long and didn’t hear a thing but after 8pm it’s so loud and sounds like it’s right above us. We called the front desk to see if they knew what it was but they said they didn’t, yet it was happening every night after 8pm.
Room spacious and very comfortable.
Room was clean, quiet and had everything I needed. I didn't eat much but what I did tasted nice. The staff were all friendly
Our stay was such a positive one! We enjoyed the staff/restaurant so much, we were sad to leave. Fantastic stay and would definitely stay again!
Very clean and comfortable easy to access and very safe
Breakfast need to be more choices and extend a extra hour for people like go to have breakfast little bit late
We stayed here for one night with our two young daughters after having a pretty underwhelming experience at another well-known hotel nearby, and the difference was immediate.
From the moment we arrived, Andrea at the front desk set the tone. She was warm, accommodating, and spoke excellent English, which made a big difference for us given our limited Spanish. We mentioned needing a quiet room for our kids’ naps, and she thoughtfully found us a great option. She was very transparent that the view wouldn’t be anything special, but it would be quiet — and it was exactly what we needed. Honestly, our kids were perfectly happy looking out at the building next door.
The room itself was comfortable, clean overall, and well set up for a family. The blackout shades worked great, the beds were comfortable, and we were all able to rest — which was the priority for us.
What really stood out throughout the stay was the staff. Everyone we interacted with was kind, attentive, and welcoming:
• The breakfast team was fantastic — constantly refreshing food, greeting guests, and keeping everything running smoothly
• Housekeeping staff was friendly and clearly took pride in their work
• The doorman was consistently helpful, especially when we had our hands full with kids and luggage
• Even at the bar, the service was attentive and handled a difficult guest with professionalism
Speaking of breakfast — this was one of the best Hyatt Place breakfasts I’ve had. A great mix of standard options and local dishes like chilaquiles, plus fresh juice options beyond the usual orange juice. It felt thoughtful and well-executed.
The only small critique: some of the vertical surfaces in the room (cabinetry, sides of furniture, etc.) had visible splatter marks that looked like they hadn’t been wiped down thoroughly. Nothing major, but worth addressing.
Overall, this was one of the best stays I’ve had, especially considering how frequently I travel. Hyatt continues to earn my loyalty, and this property is a big reason why. I would absolutely stay here again.
Busy street with lots of building going on nearby. But there is in most of Tj to be honest! You are provided with earplugs, but it doesnt always help. Overall staff were great when they notice you. The door staff are very attentive and quick at letting you in. My room was clean and always tidy when I returned from work. There is quite a good choice for breakfast, sometimes too much choice because I never know what to choose!
Great location! Clean and friendly atmosphere. Location surrounded by great restaurants. Free parking, breakfast buffet was delicious.
Big rooms, good breakfast, clean.
The A/C in the room is too noisy.
Staff was excellente rooms were perfecto
Must stay again
Can't think of anything
This is one of our favorite Hyatt's and we have been to so many. What I love about this hotel is that it has everything you need or want.
Make a reservation or call them and book a room. Their prices are good and you won't feel ripped off. You will be happy. The rooms are a nice size and kept up. The maid service is great.
The staff is super and can guide you if this is your first time to Tijuana.
I love the place to eat here. It is just the best. They have traditional Mexican food which is outstanding and they also have great American food. We love their pancakes and eggs. Their tacos are great as is any fish dish.
They have bottled water in the room, which is a must. Do not drink tap water anywhere in Tijuana.
The location is great. It is within easy walking to many fun spots, including shopping.
The rooms are super clean and although it can get loud outside, the inside is quiet and comfortable. It even smells great.
You will love it. Have fun.
Wonderful experince. Staff is great, room was wonderful, breakfast buffet was out of this world!
If I had to say anything negative it would be location...not too much right near the hotel....but, EVERYTHING is a very short Uber ride/Walk away.
Friendly, attentive and professional staffs.
Clean room.
Hotel’s in great condition.
Breakfast amazing too! :)
(Love the green juice)
Globalist here and will definitely stay in Hyatt Place again when back in TJ.
Nice hotel, lovely staff. Nice spacious rooms. Food was good and not bad value. Only issue was we were reasonably late in one night and even though the website stated the restaurant was open until 10.30 the chef had cleaned down by 9.55 and refused service despite the very helpful bar staff interceding on our behalf. Not sure if the website was incorrect or whatever but had it been known we would have stopped for food on the way back. We use this hotel frequently so we'll find out next time.
Todo estuvo perfecto ya que iba al CAS TIJUANA y la estancia en este hotel me facilito todo
El horario del desayuno es demasiado temprano
So much better than the Sheraton airport in SanDiego. Gave me a great idea of what Tijuana really is. Blows Detroit away. Great location. Very clean and safer. Walking distance to everything. Water in the room. Food was very good. Staff was awesome.
