Really enjoyed our room, service, and people.
Pros:

Buildings and rooms were very attractively decorated and well cleaned. Good curtains on windows on tall windows, oscillating fan in the room for cooler air and with the bathroom for circulation. Good space for walking and keeping luggage and even light exercise. Reception/breakfast area very nice indoor/outdoor facility. Staff were accommodating and friendly. Good location for walking to the waterfront (D-Day museum in closest as well as parks). Not too far from the Mayville High School bus stop […]. Had the continental breakfast and enjoyed eating it outside.

Cons:

The property address wasn’t the clearest and we got a bit turned around walking to or from the bus stop the first few times. The hotel is actually a collection of buildings very near each other - it’s that we didn’t like it, it was just a little unclear when first arriving.

Pros:

Absolutely lovely, the decor, the room. Breakfast was excellent, still plenty of choice despite us going down towards the end of service. Staff were great.

Gem near the beach
Pros:

Such a lovely hotel, rooms were big and clean - staff were very friendly and genuinely helpful. We had dinner in the garden and the food was spot on. It's so near everything too. Highly recommend.

Etwas in die Jahre gekommen
Pros:

Ruhige Lage in der Nähe vom Meer

Cons:

Wonderful location. Had dinner at a fabulous restaurant right down the block.
Pros:

The breakfast room was very convenient.

Cons:

It's too bad the hotel can't afford a renovation to make it feel less "tired". Although that has a certain kind of bygone era charm to it.

This hotel is not highly stylized and does not have a unique theme
Pros:

We booked a King Size room direct with the Florence Hotel. However, when we arrived, we were given a room in the adjacent Somerset Hotel, which does not have a restaurant, and, breakfast is served in the Florence Hotel only. We did not fancy crossing the road if it rained and it is easier to dine in the hotel you are staying. I for a room change to be told that there are no King Size rooms in the Florence Hotel, which doesn’t make sense when I was able to book a King Size room in the Florence Hotel in the first place. We transferred to a double room in the Florence Hotel, which was the hotel we booked. No offer of a reimbursement of the difference in room prices, despite being clearly deceived at the time of booking our stay. Be warned, when booking the Florence Hotel you may find yourself in the Somerset or another of their hotels annexed nearby. I would not describe either the Florence or the Somerset as Boutique; they were not highly stylized or had any unique theme. Yes, our room was clean and serviced every day, no different to any other hotel. We found it very strange that we could not book our drinks and meals to our room. Guests were told to pay by cash or card on the basis the ‘system was down.’ Breakfast was self-service, with melons and yoghurt served in pre filled pots. Cereals also available. The hotel reception forms part of the restaurant, with a small bar located behind. The Reception desk is manned by members of staff who also double up in the restaurant. In the evenings one person was manning the reception, bar and restaurant. As you can guess one person cannot be in three places at once, thus delaying table service. Perhaps the Boutique theme is waiting for service! We did inform our server of my wife’s intolerance, but he did not identify those meals my wife should avoid, so she had fish and chips. I had the stuffed pepper which was excellent. The next evening, we shared a Pizza, which took forty minutes to order and arrive because the server was manning three jobs. Ridiculous. It arrived burnt but after such a wait we ait what we could, mainly the side of chips We couldn’t really complain, because the server/receptionist/bar person was overworked, managing the reception (not just incoming guests but the telephone), bar and restaurant. manage the telephone and other diners. In any event, how could any self-respecting chef serve a burnt a burnt Pizza? Not really luxury. The restaurant toilets were a disgrace, two unisex cubicles which had not seen a cleaner all day… The photos were not taken late in the evening but at seven o’clock. Sorry Florence Hotel, but the bad points really overweighed by the good.

Convenient, Peaceful Stay
Pros:

Stayed for one night prior to taking a ferry to France. Hotel has a nice location that is within walking distance to many interesting places (coast, D-Day museum etc) or a very short drive to others (Gunwharf Quays, the Naval Dockyards). I would recommend reserving parking prior to arriving as it is limited. It is only £10/night and puts you right outside the hotel. Convenient especially with luggage.
Our room was a Superior Superking Room with Shower (room eight). Spacious, nicely appointed and private. Breakfast was plentiful, however, at busy times some items such as scrambled eggs can run out and the wait can be unnecessarily long. They should be better prepared for this as they know the overnight guest numbers. Our server Mirella at breakfast was engaging and attentive. Overall a very pleasant stay and would not hesitate to stay again.

My new favourite place!
Pros:

First time coming to Portsmouth and after the amazing experience I've had. This place will be my new solo trip spot! From the second we arrived the staff were extremely friendly. There are options for parking to be reserved and if you have an electric vehicle there are charging points all down the road. The room was as beautiful as seen online with everything you could need. Cleanliness is a big thing for me and can make or break my stay. This place was pristine. We stayed for breakfast and it was the best choice we made. The food was fantastic quality and a lovely selection. The stand out part of my trip was the staff. Molly was so kind and chatty. From sharing books and coming over for a morning chat, she made my trip feel so special. Thank you to all the team for my stay. Going somewhere new is always alittle scary as a solo traveler but this place makes you feel at home. If your thinking of booking all I can say is do it!
