This stay was a gift to my mother-in-law for her 80th birthday, so I did not stay myself. Therefore this review is second-hand from what she’s told me.
She loved the grandeur of the building, describing it as like a National Trust stately home. She loved the luxury of the bedroom, with gorgeous ornate furniture, especially the full four-poster bed.
She particularly liked the extra touches that the hotel laid on for her birthday (I had tipped off the hotel in advance), including cake and flowers.
Nothing, really, although my father-in-law commented that the breakfast wasn’t particularly special.
We recently stayed at Colwick Hall and had an exceptional experience overall. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The breakfast was lovely and thoughtfully tailored to our individual needs, and the service truly stood out.
A special mention must go to Sam, Lewis, Maxine, and Pramod at reception, who were all fantastic throughout our stay. In particular, Sam was outstanding from beginning to end, especially with the email correspondence before our arrival — professional, attentive, and incredibly helpful throughout.
Our room was lovely and comfortable, although a little outdated in places, and the windows were slightly difficult to open. There was also an unpleasant smell at one point, though this clearly wasn’t the fault of the hotel itself.
Despite these small issues, the overall experience was excellent, and we would happily stay again. The warmth and professionalism of the staff really made the stay memorable.
Thank you to the entire team! We look forward to returning x

Friendly staff. Nice setting
Breakfast was more expensive than other hotels we stayed at.
Clean, tidy, dated building but has character. Quiet. Perfect for the races on Princess cruise. Uber only cost £7 to get in to town.
Carpet in the bedroom needed changing,
Went for afternoon tea ,I have had a lot of afternoon teas which where plentiful fresh and delicious. How disappointment we were ,4 finger sandwiches each ,the filling was a lot to be desired, scraped on scraped off was what it looked liked.
A bit of lettuce on the top of the so called sandwiches ,no crisps or other garnish .a small cup of pea soup and a cheese stick,a scone with cream and jam ,a piece of carrot cake ,a finger of shortbread biscuit and a cake with swirl of frosting on the top and a chocolate éclairs the size of the end of my little finger .Not value for money ,would not return or recommend. Not worth the price .Very disappointed.
Everything
Staff the lady on the front desk seemed like she did want us there
Location
Everything else. Our “suite” was very tired, the floor was uneven, the bed was old and very uncomfortable, not enough hot water to have a bath, no curtains on the windows …just wooden shutters that didn’t close properly…just awful. Breakfast was terrible….cheap produce and not enough of them ….constantly had to ask for things that had run out. Only one waiter for the whole restaurant…..very disappointing.
