George Oxford Hotel

Everything else about the room...incessant street noise despite closed insulated windows, dirty, terribly uncomfortable beds, toilets which don't flush solid waste, absentee desk clerk at checkout.

Carrying luggage up 4 flights of stairs. This should be expected but aways a difficulty.

It was incredibly noisy throughout the nights I stayed. Even with the windows closed and with earplugs, I was disturbed throughout the night. There was brief respite between 5am and 5:30am when all was quiet, before a lorry right outside my room (two of the three nights I was staying there) started filling something up very noisily and was there for an hour before moving on - so very disrupted sleep!
For the price, room was extremely basic and not particularly clean.

However, for a price of nearly £150 per night, I certainly expected a much higher standard overall. Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the bathroom, especially the shower area, was not up to par. Additionally, the provided soap and shampoo were so watery that they were very difficult to use effectively. Lastly, the bed was highly unstable and extremely squeaky, constantly moving with any slight shift. While the excellent service from the team was appreciated, the room quality unfortunately did not justify the price.

However, there were a few issues that affected our overall experience. The hotel room window opened directly onto a flat roof, as did the windows of other nearby buildings. This meant that my husband and I did not feel comfortable leaving the window open at night because of the potential risk of someone gaining access through it. Consequently, adequate ventilation was difficult to achieve.
The window was partially covered by the curtains. We raised this with reception, and the staff kindly assisted in adjusting them, which improved the situation to about three-quarters coverage.
The most concerning issue, however, was the very strong and unpleasant smell coming from the hotel drains. The odour was quite off-putting and needs to be addressed as a matter of hygiene, health and safety. I would strongly recommend that the hotel investigate and resolve the drainage issue.
Overall, despite the helpful staff, cleanliness and convenient location, these issues affected our stay. I would rate the hotel 6/10.
