Staff were fantastic and helpful.
Bit dated in certain areas
Amazing location
Not a great selection of alcohol and no bar snacks
Lovely views, super helpful and friendly staff and tasty food.
Toiletries in the bathroom are a little lack luster.
Beautiful surroundings. Hotel was smart.
The room was too hot even with a fan. For the money, I thought the room could’ve been better quite basic and the bed was on the small side. Thought the breakfast was just about average.
The staff were friendly...especially the spa staff. The location is good.
Firstly, the image of the hotel is not the hotel. You stay opposite the hall.
I booked this hotel for a 2 night spa break for my friend's birthday. I'd requested a 3pm check-in, which was accepted. I arrived at 5pm due to traffic, and checked in. The room was filthy. Unmade beds, dirty cups and glasses, an overflowing bin. It clearly hadn't been cleaned before our arrival.
I was given one free glass of wine and had to wait an hour and ten minutes for it to be cleaned. Definitely not ideal after driving 2.5 hours to get there.
Once it was ready, they put a bottle of prosecco in the room as an apology, but the debacle didn't end there.
The hotel is in desperate need of an update. Carpets and furniture are worn and very stained. The beds are harder than concrete. Our bathroom door was warped and made so much noise scraping along the floor, it was impossible not to wake everyone else up, the shower pole was broken and came off the wall of you tried to move the shower head, and the room was so hot, with no thermostat or air con.
We chose to eat in their restaurant on our first night. The staff were lovely, and I explained that I am coeliac. The meal I had was definitely NOT gluten free, as it made me so ill. I spent the entire night in the bathroom, and will now be poorly for the next few days.
Breakfast was OK, but the staff on that shift were rude. On day 2, I went to get a little food, and the table was cleared while I was up. Bye, bye coffee. Most of the chairs in the restaurant are so stained, too. It just doesn't feel clean.
We booked spa treatments online...£95 each for a massage. Nothing on the site said that we would have to pay extra if we wanted to use the pool or spa facilities after our treatment, and there was a big sign on the wall offering the treatment we had, spa access, cake and prosecco for £75, so we felt pretty ripped off there too! The spa staff were absolutely lovely though, especially Mo.
Table to close, if you want a intimate dinner table much to close.
Breakfast was very good,
Dinner not too good, chicken was very dry,the broccoli was undercooked.
The lamb was lovely but the sautéed potatoes not cooked well.
The room looked lovely but when you walked in the floor was very noisy, the bed mattress had collapsed very uncomfortable, tv was to small for the room could not watch it in bed, the bathroom door squeak when you opened and close it, tiles bye the bath needed regrouting, the day we was leaving at five to nine the housecleaning unlocked the door to come in not good,as we don’t have to book out till 11am.
Location and Setting is lovely. You drive through a council estate and low and behold there's a wonderful area.
Hotel wasn't in line with the hotel setting. Very run down and everything looked like it needed a refresh. Lots of areas that looked quite grubby and freyed aroud the edges.
Breakfast was good
Could only use leisure centre free of charge between 7-9am which was not mentioned at time of booking, leisure centre was advertised as free to use to paying guests with no time frame mentioned. To ask for £25 after that was really out of order, if I'd been aware of this restriction I wouldn't have booked this hotel.
Bed was comfortable and room large.
Bath was not very clean, room decor dated and dull, bedroom lighting poor.
Communal areas were untidy with empty glasses and plates on every table not cleared away.
Bar drinks limited and no full restaurant.
Spa only available to use as part of your stay between 7am and 9am which is crazy. Outside of that 2 hour early timeslot you have to book and pay extra, even if you just want a swim or to use the gym. This purports to be a 4 star hotel so access to the gym and pool really should be included throughout your stay.
This really isn't a 4 star hotel. It's sad as it could be amazing, but I can only assume the owners don't want to spend money on the building or rooms, nor train their staff.
Stayed in the Premier Inn in Wakefield the following night for literally 1/3 of the price and the quality was 100 times better!
Spa facilities even though we had to pay and book to use them , something that wasn’t mentioned at the time of booking
The property advertised on Booking.com gives the impression that all guests stay in the same main building. However when we arrived with another couple we’ve been informed that our rooms were located in 2 different buildings with quite a distance apart. The receptionist was cold , unfriendly and refused to help with the request to stay together. Transparency is important and had we known this in advance we might ve chosen a different hotel. We were expecting a higher standard of customer service for a 4* hotel
Lovely and clean and staff were friendly and professional.
No fridge in a deluxe room
Everything
Lovely location - beautiful views over the lake. Amazing walk from the hotel around the neighbouring fields - well worth doing if you have time. The restaurant is good although the food isn’t amazing. The waiting staff were very attentive. The old hotel building is very picturesque.
Our room was a large twin room in the more modern part of the hotel- the size was great but the windows were blocked by plants and there was hardly any light and no view out. There was no fridge/ mini bar. The decor was a bit dated but it was clean.
