Fonab Castle Hotel

Overall great experience. Scenery is excellent. Perfect spot for location to town, hiking trails and the loch. The quality of service was outstanding.

Venue and setting lovely and dinner was decent. The views from the restaurant and bar are stunning and staff were all lovely and attentive. Our room was in the Castle and not quote at the level I hoped with a couple of broken things (toilet flush button and handles on some drawers etc) and breakfast was poor. Overall we have a nice time but expected slightly more in terms of room and breakfast.

The suite we had booked was run down and in dire need of refurbishment. A very tired room with lots of stains on walls and carpets, wobbly toilet seat, just to name a few defects.
What really shocked us most though was that our suite had a view straight onto the car park which wasn’t apparent from hotel
Website when we booked. No privacy at all - we would have to be in the room with curtains drawn at all times. We asked for a different room and the only alternative was a single room half the size of the suite. We asked for an appropriate price reduction. We were told that only the general manager could consider this. The GM was elusive, never available, in meetings or calls. Even when I faced her, by chance, in person, she walked away and cited a petty excuse. On check out we were offered a meagre 30 GBP reduction per night.
The staff, in particular restaurant staff in the hotel are wonderful. The hotel management however not visible and not willing to “face the music”, instead letting their front line staff face unhappy guests. This is one of the worst hotel experiences I have had, and I strongly recommend to avoid this hotel which is poorly managed and doesn’t give the value it promises
to deliver. I noticed there were quite a few similar reviews in the past which I ignored, with great regret.

This hotel is fabulous. Easy parking, great food, a very comfortable room, excellent staff and a short walk to the town centre. We shall return.

This hotel is in an incredible location overlooking the loch, service is top class - we’ve noticed some changes including the new bar, though the cheapy feel table tops and fake fire lack that 5 star feel in our opinion. I know the hotel is now part of a group, I hope this does not mean a reduction in 5 star quality and charm.

What a fabulous stay we recently had at the Fonab Castle Hotel. Without question, Fonab Castle deserves its 5-star rating. The Castle Hotel is beautiful inside and out. Beautifully appointed bedrooms and public spaces, surrounded by a stunning wooded landscape and views of Loch Faskally. The Fonab Castle also offers an amazing culinary experience with delicious entrée presented like works of art. The restaurant, and delightful upstairs lounge with large windows and balcony, also overlook the glorious view. Best of all is the staff who are so helpful, especially David and Arthur who provided excellent concierge services. Arthur even insisted on driving us to town to take care of an important matter. Thank you all for an amazing, fabulous stay!

Delicious restaurant and Lake view, but a 5 star hotel this was not. Wake up call request never came. While this area can be cooler sometimes the rooms get hot and there is no AC in the rooms. They do offer a small fan in the closet you can use which seems out of place for a 5 Star hotel. You could leave the balcony door open for fresh air but not knowing if there are bugs in the area, we really didn’t want to chance it having had a bad experience in the Bahamas with bugs coming into room. Having a screen door would have solved it, not a complicated fix. We also didn’t get the feeling they would go above and beyond on requests like when we asked for the fire pit to be lit to sit by it in the evening when it was cooler and that could not be done. In Maui there is a propane fire pit that adds to the romance of a nice stay, albeit missing here. 5 Star hotels lead to 5 Star expectations and this one missed the mark.

Birthday and Anniversary weekend away. Location is stunning, Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Fillet Steak and Peppercorn sauce was excellent. Spa and pool area lovely

Our stay at Fonab Castle was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Scotland. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by the friendly and helpful staff, who made us feel right at home throughout our stay.

One of my favorite things about the property was the beautiful grounds. We enjoyed taking walks around the hotel, and it was the perfect place to stretch our legs after spending hours exploring the Highlands.

Our room was lovely, and the bed was incredibly comfortable— one of the best nights of sleep I had during our entire vacation!

We also have to mention the restaurant. Throughout our trip, we ranked every restaurant where we dined, and Fonab Castle was our favorite. The food was great, as was the service, and the entire dining experience was memorable from start to finish.

If we're fortunate enough to visit Scotland again, Fonab Castle will definitely be at the top of our list. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful, relaxing stay with exceptional food and hospitality.

Fonab Castle sits in a truly stunning location, with stylish bars and an elegant restaurant looking directly over the River Garry. The views alone make the experience memorable, but the atmosphere inside is just as impressive — refined, relaxed and beautifully designed. The cocktails were outstanding, crafted with real care and creativity, and our meal was probably the best we’ve ever had, with every course perfectly executed. The spa facilities were exceptional too, offering a peaceful escape with luxurious treatments and immaculate surroundings. Fonab Castle blends modern comfort with historic charm, creating a stay that feels both indulgent and unforgettable.
