The Queens Hotel & Victoria Cloisters Apartments

Hotel was dated & drab, Staff were perfunctory at best & generally seemed disinterested.
Uncomfortable hard bed & pillows were flat, this meant sleeping was disturbed. This was made worse by street noise which echoed around the buildings.
No air conditioning, the fan supplied in the humid room was ineffective as with only one power socket above the table & so too far away from bed.
No safe for valuables
Mug rim had a chip.
No bottle of water in room.
Breakfast area bit chaotic with the volume of people having to navigate such a small area.

The quilt was very thin and we were cold on the night and pillows very flat wasn't the best night's sleep

The apartment had a jaded feel to it and everything was a bit worn. The en-suite shower in the room we occupied was dreadful, it was so small that it was impossible to turn round without opening the door. The panels leaked water onto the floor and the whole experience was exhausting. We called the hotel reception on our first evening to report a flickering light in the kitchen - they promised to replace it but never did.

Fick lov att boka frukosttid är iofs ok. Men när vi kom ner på vår tid bad de oss att skynda sig då de väntade större sällskap. Man kände sig inte välkommen. Engelsk frukost inget vidare.

Everything was perfect

The breakfast was a disgrace.
Bacon so dried you couldn't cut it with a knife or eat it,the sausages scrambled eggs and hash browns were barely half cooked and the beans were cold with no toast.We had to walk away from it it was that disgraceful & disgusting.A cplaintbto the staff fell on deaf ears and a complaint at reception received the same response.We were not even offered a refund given we paying for breakfast included.We cancelled our breakfast booking for our second morning and went out to a local Café for breakfast.We were very unhappy with not getting a refund for no breakfasts and the staff in the breakfast area could do with a few lessons in manners as well as hospitality as they fall a very long way short of what is an acceptable level of courtesy or manners.There is nothing that would entice me to spend my money staying here ever again and my advice is to avoid it like the plague because staff only treat you with contempt.

The bathroom could do with a revamp as it was dated and tired. It would be better if the bath was replaced with just a modern walk in shower. Hotel needs to look at the Premier Inn model.

Al momento della prenotazione NON è stato indicato che l’hotel avrebbe richiesto un deposito di 100£ (e’ stato indicato solo a prenotazione avvenuta). Il deposito è stato restituito dopo un mese.
Ho contattato ripetute volte la struttura che ha sempre risposto che il ritardo nel rimborso dipendeva dalla mia banca mentre in realtà era la struttura che doveva provvedere ad emettere il rimborso ed è stato fatto SOLO dopo un mese.
Prima del soggiorno ho ricevuto messaggio dalla struttura con eccessive indicazioni su come lasciare la stanza: portare via la spazzatura, lavare e riporre i piatti utilizzati, lasciare gli asciugamani utilizzati tutti insieme in bagno e mille altre indicazioni per semplificare il rifacimento della stanza e ridurne i tempi.
Se si pretende tanta efficienza da parte dell’ospite sarebbe opportuno che anche la struttura fosse efficiente e rapida nella restituzione del deposito.
Inoltre la stanza era al piano terra senza possibilità di aprire la finestra nonostante il caldo eccessivo del periodo.
Il divano letto era pessimo e sfondato.

Reception staff could have been more polite and welcoming. Breakfast was run like an army cafeteria, with less than jolly staff, no choice of table, arrows on the floor to control your movements and merely adequate food. Room furnishings a little ‘student accom’.

Nothing totally unlikeable. Bedroom we had on 3rd floor overlooked the river and across to several quayside pubs. Lovely by day but noisy by night. The more modern Slug and Lettuce across the water had a night club with music into the early hours apart from Sunday, so if you're a light sleeper bring ear plugs - we did, and needed them! Bedroom was very spacious but lacked any power points by the beds - not a problem, but a bit odd. Bathroom was ok with a full bath and overhead shower - anyone with mobility issues should mention this when booking (we were fine). The hotel takes coach bookings so if you want to have dinner be sure to book ahead as we couldn't eat in. It was not a problem as the choice in York was great and we enjoyed walking around. All minor niggles and no real complaints.

Not enough sockets in the bedroom for two people who needed to charge up phones. etc. Only one free socket, although it did have a USB point within it too. The second socket had the telly plugged into it but could be used, if needed, as long as not being watched at the time!!
