Nothing I didn’t like
Perfect location for our needs.
I have been using this hotel for a few years and it now needs lots of love and investment, wishing the new owners lots of luck and happy times ahead.
Some things l would expect at a hotel at this price point, and hopefully you may consider them.
Some bottles of water in the room.
A multi choice coffee machine in the main hotel as sachet/ instant coffee isn't appealing if staying more than one night.
Limited time for breakfast and dinner.
Access road. Best to use access of A6
Fantastic location. Friendly and helpful staff!
Poor wi-fi.
The staff were really great, led by Shabeeh’s team.
Our room was too hot and we were relocated to a much cooler room. The restaurant food was excellent - better than expected, and we were given a lift to Shap in the morning.
Sadly It’s a long way off the coast to coast walk & the internet was slow.
First- property is 6 km away from shap with no public transport
Second- No hot water at all, not at night, not in morning, I boiled water in teapot to have a wash
Third- unhelpful staff- I had breakfast included but with the hot weather I wanted to leave before it was ready at 730. Asked for a sandwich instead and they wanted 12.90 ( same price as breakfast). They would not give me credit for breakfast or a sandwich to go.
Fourth- if you are not part of a bus tour you are a second class citizen- no food or service till bus tours are done. Had to wait until 8 pm for dinner though I started walking at 8 am
Poor service
No hot water
Felt like 2nd class after bus tours
Lovely staff very clean comfortable beds definitely be staying again.
All good.
Easy access to M6 . Staff were very helpful.
Decor in public rooms stunning as 100+ years old and in art deco style.
Good food. Easy parking. Rooms fairly modern
Lots of history but missed opportunity as bedrooms are very corporate. Big hotel. Lots of ground that could be landscaped to be beautiful but mostly in accessible at present.Have lots of coach parties to make ends meet.
With investment could be stunning.
This hotel is a crazy place. Like stepping into a time machine. Very characterful. The hotel manager is a real character, goes above and beyond for guests.
I was staying overnight while walking the Coast to Coast. My own fault for not researching, but walkers beware that this hotel is not actually in Shap! The brother of the hotel manager came to pick us up in Shap which was very helpful and much appreciated. Breakfast buffet was chaos, get there early.
everything
We really struck lucky with this hotel. Superb location in a secluded valley where two moorland streams converge byt very convenient for the My Our room was spacious and had a sofa, the views were over the Moor and was well kept by the staff. The bed was comfortable from day one, something we rarely experience. The over bath shower I found a little cramped and wouldn't be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The hotel is popular with coach parties but the reception staff were very helpful in advising good times for dinner or breakfast. We ate there on two evenings and the food was excellent and always hot. Breakfast is a buffet selection with a good choice of items. The lobby was from a bygone era, very elegant and charming There is a lovely woodland area with some nice walks with streams and a waterfall. If you're lucky, you may see one of the red squirrels the woods are famous for.
Good location in the middle of nowhere !
Dirty hotel in general. Only FIVE options on the menu for evening meal. They had run out of FISH, which left 4 options all weekend . As I have allergens, my only option on their menu was fish. We
ended up going out for food into shap, and found a lovely pub. We wasn’t asked if either of us had any allergens upon ordering. When the food came it was covered in grease and oil. I had asked for chips and got duphonaise potato, which I have allergens to cheese. If you bought your dog with you while you were eating, you had to sit in a different area. Then go to the main restaurant to get your food,
Ie breakfast - walk round half the hotel with your breakfast- while it’s getting cold. Environmental health would definitely have something to say about that.
We had booked to stay Friday Saturday & leave Sunday morning, our room wasn’t cleaned at all during our stay.
We saw the housemaids on our corridor, but the management made excuses for them, and said they must of ‘missed’ our room. Our shower was awful with the water just trickling out. On Saturday morning there was no hot water in the bathroom, even though the tap had been running for ten minutes or more.
The location was good
As it was quiet. The hotel is very rundown, and could do with a good clean, and freshen the place
Up with some paint.
Location is amazing, quiet and surrounded by countryside. The interior is like an old grand hotel, art deco style fixtures and large airy spaces. Buffet breakfast with more than enough vegan choices.
Location and nice old building.
One of the mattresses on the twin beds was old with springs. Not a good night’s sleep!
