I liked this place and I know it’s and it’s an old building but bathroom needs desperately updating
Pros:

Staff hard working , location good, garden and restaurant variety nice. Easy to park

Cons:

My room door lock was not very secure. Room Too hot (loft -No AC) Shower ran off a monobloc tap in bath. No bracket on wall for shower head or splash screen . Water pressure too low

Short mid week break in a great hotel
Pros:

Lovely hotel in a great location. Excellent communication before the stay when I needed to make a couple of special requests. Very clean and comfortable and very good facilities. Every single member of staff was polite friendly and very helpful and made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Cons:

Nothing it was all great

Fantastic hotel
Pros:

The room was beautiful and comfortable, loved walking around the gardens and orchard, excellent food, high standard, reasonable prices, kind and friendly staff

Cons:

My only complaint is, people were smoking cigarettes on the private terrace directly below the french windows in my bedroom. The smoke came DIRECTLY into my room. HORRIBLE. The hotel should ask smoking guests to be mindful of others, and perhaps move away from the building if other guests have their doors or windows open (it was hot weather). This issue was a real disappointment for me, and not really acceptable for an expensive room. If it wasn't for this, the hotel would be 10/10.

Beautiful grounds, friendly staff but would not stay again.
Pros:

The location is really great if you are looking to explore Rye. The staff were very friendly. The building is beautiful outside, the restaurant was lovely (although did not eat here). There are lots of lovely outdoor space to relax and explore. The cleaning staff were great at cleaning the room, refreshing towels and items.

Cons:

The rooms felt quite dated, but the biggest issue of all was that the walls were paper thin, it felt like you were staying in one big room with a bunch of strangers. I could hear every single word of my neighbours conversations, of people walking past in the hallway, I could hear them cleaning their teeth among other things, every word of their TV show so as you can imagine sleep was disturbed easily & it wasn't possible to relax in the morning (even with earplugs). Now this may have been as I was situated close to reception, however after speaking with friends who stayed they experienced the same issue. I feel for £130 per night I was expecting more - even just a room where I can't hear everyone! As a result personally I would not stay again. I did not have the breakfast so could not comment on this.

Chocolate found on the hotel bed room floor
Pros:

The grounds were lovely and the restaurant looked pretty. The wait staff were friendly.

Cons:

The walls were quite thin, so noise from people walking past the room was easily heard, and the room itself was uncomfortably warm despite the fans provided. While these issues affected our stay, they were ultimately not our main concern.

Our main concern arose on the day of check-out, when I discovered my cat playing with a chocolate button that appeared to have been left under the table in the room. As chocolate is toxic to cats, this was understandably very alarming. I immediately brought the chocolate to reception to raise the issue.

The staff member at the front desk looked into the matter and offered to remove our drinks from the previous evening from the bill. When I showed her the chocolate itself, she brought out the bin from beneath the desk and asked whether I wanted to throw it away.

I appreciate that the individual staff member may not have personally been responsible for the situation, and mistakes can happen. However, I felt disappointed by how the concern was handled. We declined the offer regarding the drinks and explained that the issue was not about compensation, but rather that the situation could have had a much more serious outcome had my cat ingested the chocolate.

As pet owners staying at a pet-friendly hotel, we would expect a high standard of cleanliness and greater awareness of potential hazards. While accidental oversights can occur, what left us particularly unsettled was the feeling that the seriousness of the issue was not fully recognised. The response we received — particularly the offer of complimentary drinks in this context and being offered the wastebin twice — unintentionally gave us the impression that our concern had been dismissed rather than properly acknowledged and addressed.
