Basic breakfast but much better assortment than usual.
I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The check-in process was a little rough, but I forgot all about it when I got to the room. It was immaculate! The bed was extremely comfortable, the WiFi worked great and I LOVED having the air conditioner in the room. The black-out curtains worked perfectly and allowed me to get a great night of sleep. Great water pressure from the shower with great lighting. The "breakfast" was an added bonus. Nice selection of fruit, cereal, breakfast bars, hard boiled eggs and coffee/tea. This hotel was a very pleasant surprise on my trip to Fairbanks.
Front desk staff weren't the friendliest.
We had a nice two night stay at the Golden North. We were a group that had booked a combination of economy doubles and two queen rooms. The economy doubles were not large, but that was expected. The two queen rooms were huge and included a sitting area. The hotel and rooms were older, but clean and the beds were comfortable. The breakfast provided was very good for a continental breakfast (included boiled eggs, bagels, granola bars, etc). We also appreciated the complementary airport and train shuttle. Easy and quick to get them to come get or take you to/from either.

Outside needs facelift
Original room way too small, but paid extra and stayed in large room. We were on the first floor able to park truck next to door, THAT WAS GREAT!
Not a picturesque spot. Our view was a snowmobile dealer lot.
Sheets on the beds were fresh and clean. Towels were thick and white. Breakfast choices were pretty good for a continental style breakfast.
We were told our room was an upgrade. One of the beds in the room was so bad, each side sank as low as it’s possible to go and the middle was soft, but better than each side of the bed. NEVER have seen anything this bad EVER! That mattress should have been tossed years ago! Bathroom was cruddy looking and overall looked and felt dirty. Air conditioner was very odd!

Cheap for summer in Fairbanks. Comfortable bed and clean room.
