Beautiful hotel, staff very accommodating, comfortable rooms and very close to the centre and attractions
That you get limited access to the pool.
Room was lovely. Comfortable and importantly in this kept cool. Bathroom clean and lovely shower facilities. Didn't have a chance to use spa facilities due to short time but we definitely want to come back to take advantage of that next time.
Great location for shops and restaurants
Breakfast to expensive
It was central.
No parking. No interconnecting/ rooms on same floor for a family. Pools only accessible at certain time. Discretionary charge of 5% on top of current cost. Rooms were tiny and did not feel luxurious. Food online was very limited. Navigating around the hotel was difficult and no air-conditioning made it very difficult to explore
Fantastic location and beautiful period property. Executive twin room was very spacious and comfortable. Tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean, the beds were generously sized and very comfortable with lovely soft cotton linen. Everything provided which made the stay near enough perfect. Room situated in the adjacent block which was a bit of a hike with luggage but this did not impact on the stay.
Very helpful staff, particularly Solange who was very friendly and came up with some great advice and suggestions.
Overall perfect stay would definitely return!
Nothing
I booked this room for my daughters, and I'm very upset because they left some flowers on their departure with the staff at reception and told him that their friend would be coming to collect in a few hours' time. When that friend came, he was very snarky with her, and he said that we didn't leave any flowers and he threw them away. Those flowers cost £70. The gentleman was a middle Eastern man with black hair. We don't know his name. The property itself and the lady receptionist were excellent.
He also insisted on them paying a service charge, and when they didn't accept it, he was making faces.
fabulous spa but treatments quite pricy
staff were lovely and room was excellent
would have been good to have. longer access times to the spa
really noisy outside the hotel in early hours and first thing in the morning
The Spa facility
Small longue area for lunch
Central location, clean, comfortable, air conditioning in bedroom was very quiet, well furnished and well maintained. Staff friendly and professional. Spa was excellent.

Le luxe, la qualité de l’accueil et le confort associé à un emplacement de choix dans la vieille ville de Bath
Personnel charmant et attentif

Spa bruyant aux heures de pointe et personne pour leur dire de se taire !
Staff were excellent. Concierge in particular were super helpful and accommodating.
Car park was narrow, spaces were very small, although it was well situated.
It’s prime location n spa
After informing about what I needed through emails prior to a week about my mattress n pillows it wasn’t given to me. Since I was suffering from back problem n neck issues I had requested for hard mattress n firm pillows. After 3 days of stay I received.
I’ve now stayed at the Gainsborough Bath Spa Hotel twice, and after two excellent experiences I honestly wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else when I return to Bath next year.
The location is ideal. It’s right in the centre of Bath, but just far enough off the busiest streets that you’re not constantly surrounded by crowds whenever you come and go. Despite that, you’re less than a minute’s walk from the main shopping streets and all of the city’s key attractions.
It’s certainly not the cheapest place to stay, but if your budget allows, I genuinely think it’s worth the money. You’re paying for an outstanding location, beautiful rooms and excellent facilities, particularly the spa.
The spa itself is spotless, exceptionally well maintained and never feels overcrowded thanks to the allocated guest access times. That system works really well and means you can actually relax rather than compete for loungers or space. My only suggestion for improvement would be to extend the guest access windows slightly. Something like 7:00-10:00am and 5:00-8:00pm would feel more generous, especially considering guests have already paid a premium to stay at the hotel.
The staff deserve a special mention. Every member of the team I’ve encountered has been friendly, personable and genuinely helpful without ever feeling overbearing.
The rooms are spacious, beautifully presented and equipped with everything you’d expect from a hotel of this standard. I was fortunate enough to stay during the recent heatwave, and the in-room air conditioning was incredibly effective—a feature that made a huge difference and was very much appreciated.
After two consistently fantastic stays, the Gainsborough has become my go-to hotel in Bath. I can’t wait to return next year.
