Everything was so nice
The toilet water pressure wasn’t strong
Great layout, very spacious. kitchen well equipped, large lounge room. bit main bedroom with bath and balcony.
Late check in the staff member not very accommodating at all.. the walk from room to restaurant for breakfast you had to walk through the car park. to get to the pool same route not very good signage.
Our family of 4 traveled to the Mirage Whitsunday from California in April as part of a two week trip to Oz. We were especially excited about this leg of the trip and were met with utter disappointment when we checked into the Mirage. Our villa (28) was FILTHY. The toilets had not been cleaned, there were cigarette butts in the ashtrays outside, the sheets were dirty, bedding ripped, bugs EVERYWHERE but especially little gnats on the kitchen counters, animal feces inside the villa and present on the front and back patio, mold in every bathroom, stains on the sofa and holes in the walls. I've never felt dirtier than I did here. You couldn't even hang your towel to dry because the towel holder was busted & just hanging from the wall. When I approached hotel management, I was dismissed. Michael, the manager, told me they "don't have enough time to take units offline to properly service them" because they are booked at capacity. WHAT? Then don't charge $1k a night. I was then told Michael that our particular unit was in such ill repair because of Southeast Asian clients treating it poorly. I was stunned. Perhaps he felt comfortable saying this to me, a white woman, but I found this to be incredibly racist and beyond inappropriate. I would encourage anyone, but specifically Southeast Asian customers to take their business elsewhere where they will be treated with respect and dignity.
We were offered to move rooms to a category that was supposedly better; however, we were traveling with a young child and booked our specific room type due to the needs of our family (ground level, outdoor space). The alternative offered to us was not ground level, had less desirable views (roofs vs clear ocean) and was not appropriate lodging for a young child. We opted instead to stay in our unit and requested it to be properly cleaned. Upon returning to the room after said cleaning, we found that the cleaning staff had left a MASTER key in our unit. This is a huge safety issue. We could have entered any unit on the property due to this neglegence. They also left bug killer on the counter within reach of our toddler and did not clean the unit to the standard expected -- literally dead flies left behind, toilets filthy, nothing dusted...it was atrocious and honestly so stressful during what was supposed to be a lovely family vacation. We were on holiday with two young children and had already spent considerable time and energy raising and re-raising these issues instead of enjoying our trip. When we once again addressed this, the property manager said the dirty toilets were due to hard water and could not be cleaned. This was false - probably half the readers on TripAdvisor have hard water and yet we all figure out a way to keep our homes clean. The lack of care, customer service, and desire to solution this was unacceptable. We weren't even offered so much as a complimentary bottle of water for our trouble. We understand this is a tropical climate and encounters with wildlife outdoors is to be expected, but this went well beyond that. We've traveled extensively throughout tropical environments and have never seen units in this state, nor have we been met with such "too bad for you" mentality from management. It was obvious that management knew families who have traveled 7,000 miles during a popular holiday are in a hard spot with limited alternative options last minute. We were basically hostage with no suitable options until our day of departure.
I have sat on this review as we've been going through the dispute process with our credit card company and have now requested escalation. Please heed our advice - if you value not supporting racist businesses or appreciate at minimum a 3 star level of cleanliness & customer service, DO NOT STAY HERE.
To the Mirage team - please travel throughout Southeast Asia. Learn a little bit about other cultures, what good customer service looks like, and perhaps take a note or two on how to mitigate mold, bugs, vermon, and mildrew in a humid environments.
We stayed here as a family of six, and the apartment was genuinely stunning. The views were spectacular, and the plunge pool became the centrepiece of our evenings. As the week wound down, we found ourselves spending more and more time at the apartment rather than venturing out. It was also a rare and welcome surprise: the first time a property has actually lived up to, and even exceeded, its website photos.
If I’m being truly critical, the buffet breakfast didn’t match the standard set by the room. It wasn’t poor, but the gap was noticeable. We used it as a rough gauge for Whispers Restaurant and, fairly or not, decided not to return for other meals. Coffee was excellent one morning and disappointing the next, inconsistent enough that we gave up ordering it. As it turned out, the pod machine in the apartment did a better job.
Overall though, the experience was outstanding. We’d return without hesitation if we find ourselves back in Airlie Beach.
Die Lage war top, dass Hotel liegt sehr zentral.
Nice rooms
Poor breakfast
Very roomy and comfortable
Beds and pillows were excellent
Excellent View and lovely apartment.
The location the views very quiet
There wasn't anything we didn't like a very beautiful place
The view was amazing, very large bathroom, comfy bed
When spending over $500/nt I would expect there would be ice available on check in, especially after a several hr drive, I asked the reception desk and they advised to ck at the restaurant for a bucket of ice, The restaurant advised they are not affiliated with the hotel and gave me a paper cup.
We got up to make coffee in the morning and found there were no coffee cups, so back to the restaurant and purchased $7 coffee
The view and size of the villa was great
Nothing
