We had an amazing stay at the Lowline over my birthday weekend in August! The staff was incredible nice and helpful, the hotel and rooms were beautifully done, and the food was great. All in a great location - exciting nightlife right outside but once you step inside it was quiet! We will definitely be returning!!
This hotel was just having its grand opening the week I visited and I was extremely impressed. The service was impeccable from top to bottom, especially from the valet team outside upon checkin. They made us feel so welcome and like a part of the team. From valet, to the front desk, and everyone I interacted with made my stay feel very special. Will always come back to this hotel when visiting Charleston!!
I had THE BEST experience at The Lowline! The location was so convenient and the staff was incredibly friendly! A special shout-out to Khadijah and Cris for their outstanding service. We can't wait to be back for our next trip!
This is going to be a long one so please, accept this summary if you don’t want to read a novella☺️ i usually don’t write reviews, but considering we went when the hotel had only been open for a little over a week, i figured i would put my pickiness to use and provide a review to give future guests a baseline for what to expect from this location. Read along to see my overall experience with this particular hotel.
Summary: wonderful location, super chic decor, solid restaurant, AMAZING staff (special shout out to Gerverus and Mitchell), overall 9/10 experience
Location: at first we were a bit confused when driving in. If you sneeze while your GPS is telling you to turn you’ll probably pass it. But once arriving you notice that you are literally within walking distance of a lot of local food, bars, entertainment, the works. We were able to walk to the Charleston Music Hall effortlessly for our show (in heels, albeit short heels but heels nonetheless) and my feet still had life to continue for a little while longer afterwards.
Decor/Ambiance: you can tell that this is a very new hotel. The decor is carefully crafted to put a modern spin on the southern gothic charm. We saw fresh flowers being placed in vases around the lobby and elevators and the sheer thoughtfulness all the way down to the coat hooks shows that the interior designers were very intentional about creating a warm, chic vibe. I do wish there were more full body mirrors in places like the hallways but that is such a personal preference that i wasn’t mad at all with the decor i observed. Everything felt homey but with like an elevate touch.
Cleanliness: overall the place was clean. Did i notice some areas that could’ve used some extra TLC? OF COURSE. there were still parts of the hotel that were being worked on so construction crews were in and out but overall, the public areas and the room were clean enough that i comfortably opened my suitcase and leaned against the headboard when sitting in bed. We did hear a dog on our floor but the way the maintenance and housekeeping staff were regularly going up and down the halls cleaning, i had no concerns and felt really good about enjoying my time.
Food: now the restaurant was a little bit pricey, BUT it was worth it. We tried the crab dip, quarter chicken, brussel sprouts and red beans and rice and good gracious it was good. The dip didn’t stand a chance and the chicken had a great crispness to it that made you want to savor the skin. It was all very flavorful so color me impressed.
Service/Staff: immediately upon checking in we were greeted with such hospitality. Gerverus checked us in and when we asked him for recommendations for food and activities HE DELIVERED. He is a Charleston native but even better than that, he actually loves this city and has pride in his home. Gerverus provided us with tourist recommendations, local food favorites, bar suggestions, beach suggestions, the guy was THOROUGH. He gives off big teddy bear vibes and is super sweet to talk to, but please don’t take his kindness for a show - the recommendations were amazing. The guy KNOWS HIS STUFF HE KNOWS GOOD FOOD!!!!!! he recommended barbecue restaurants, seafood, small bite spots, and even provided recommendations for the hotel restaurant and bar. He was super attentive to what we told him we were looking for and he delivered with every challenge we presented to him. When this guy tells you somewhere to go, just listen. I promise you won’t be disappointed. Tell him what you usually like and he will exceed your expectations. Him being the first person we interacted with at the hotel was actually a blessing. It set the tone for everything else and allowed us to feel comfortable trying things on the property. His recommendations for off the hotel property were so good that we had to try his in-house recommendations and they did not disappoint. Everyone from the valet to the housekeeping staff and coffee shop staff were super kind, even the moody young man working the valet gave us a good chuckle because you could tell that he was being himself and it was so refreshing to not see people faking the funk to interact with us just because we were guests. I greatly appreciated the authenticity of each and every person working here. It made me feel like i was surrounded by my crazy loving family and i loved that.
Bar: now the bar was one of our favorites here. Gerverus sent us here and after listening to our flavor palette for drinks gave us WONDERFUL recommendations that fit us perfectly. The bar staff was just as knowledgeable about the drinks on their menus and were super hospitable. We enjoyed ourselves for hours just talking to other guests and speaking with the bartenders about their lives and the usual bar small talk. The first time we went, Mitchell was the man of the hour. He provided great suggestions and even introduced us to new liquors we had never heard of before. He even got my boyfriend to like a drink with Aperol in it! He was such a wonderful person to sit and talk with, it was amazing. When we returned a couple days later, Bailey and Laura were working and they were just as stellar! Laura let us know upfront what her personal favorites were and made sure we had a good idea of what we were getting ourselves into and boy oh boy did she make a GREAT old fashioned. I’m not even a fan (I’m a gin drinker) and i actually enjoyed her old fashioned. Bailey gave a few suggestions as well, but his personality really carried the show. He wasn’t performing, he was just conversing with us and was super down to earth. We all discussed everything from college sports stories to childhood memories that shaped us and the drinks we loved as we recovered from our childhoods lol. Overall, the three of them made us feel comfortable and we were so happy to spend time in that space that we easily lost track of time.
Parking: if you’re going to be in and out a bunch, just do the valet - it’s flat rate for each day. But if not, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the parking garage. We, however, were in and out constantly during the day so paying to go in and out each time started to add up quickly. The parking garage is owned by the city so there’s nothing Hyatt can really do about that but when we used the valet service it was quick and easy. We ended up utilizing them for the bulk of our stay and it came out cheaper than it would have been to go in and out of the garage as much as we were out and about. This one is definitely dependent on your personal preferences and frequency of using your vehicle during your stay.
Overall impression and experience: is this a 5 star super luxury resort? No. Is this somewhere you can go to let your hair down and trust that the staff has enough locals to give you amazing non-touristy recommendations? ABSOLUTELY. this place was an elevated take on a small local b&b like vibe and i will definitely return and send family and friends here. This was a great addition to the hyatt portfolio. It is centrally located and the amenities are high enough quality to compete with the surrounding businesses. You can teach and coach hospitality, but you cannot teach authenticity. This place embraced it and it made our stay so much fun. My boyfriend and i stayed for four nights and were not offered anything in exchange for this review (Hyatt, if you need a mystery guest call me). I’m just a hardworking woman that loves to enjoy my free time and finds joy in a good meal and a good drink. again, overall 9/10 experience.
Friendly staff, clean and updated hotel in the downtown area. We were only there one night, but we were so happy we stayed here! I wish we would have spent the rest of our trip here instead of coming to Wild Dunes.
Location is very convenient to all things Charleston. Our room were excellent. Staff at the entrance were welcoming (typical southern hospitality) and helpful. Front desk staff were highly professional, courteous and again welcoming. Our coffee shop and Leeward Restaurant experience was, as expected, top shelf. Kudos to these staff members, front desk- Gervais, coffee shop - Brixie and Leeward Restaurant -Autumn and Jack
This is a fine hotel!
Never been so poorly treated by a hospitality company. Booked a room at the hotel through a 3rd party vendor, received a confirmation of booking from not only the 3rd party vendor but also the hotel itself acknowledging the reservation and the price, only to be told when I got the there that I would be charged almost double the rate I had booked at if I wanted to stay there. And with it being a busy summer weekend we had no choice as most other properties were full. Appealing to the management and common sense made no difference, absolutely zero customer service. I will never stay at a Hyatt property again and advise all to do the same - avoid at all costs.
We enjoyed this new hotel in a perfect location. It is CLEAN and NEW and our experience was better than anticipated. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were also very comfortable. I am a bit of a sleep snob and I was very happy. Service was excellent and friendly. Everyone in our group of 6 adults agreed that we would return to this hotel. Bravo.
Lovely stay in a great location! The room decor has a boutique vibe. Breakfast isn't included, but the grab-and-go area has several options and we prefer to eat brunch out in Charleston anyway. Only 20 minutes to the beach and then walking distance to everything downtown Charleston offers.
Convenient location, but don't expect service and poor manners of the staffs.
Lights not working, some standard kitchenware missing. If you ask for correction at front desk, the staffs will give you attitude.
Stayed here for 3 nights while my daughter has business meetings. I had a lot of time to kill, alone. Perfect hotel if you want to walk to.. shopping, restaurants, historic sites, etc.. comfy bed. Mini-fridge and microwave in full kitchen. Small living room area with TV that spins around toward bedroom. Only “problem” we had was that it seemed the hotel controlled the AC. Couldn’t get it below “65”, though it felt like 75°. The fan would stop around 7 pm and would not kick in until around 7 am. The valet guys were fantastic. Hot, free breakfast was very good, better than most hotels. The indoor pool was heated, even when it was 95° outside.
This was a really good stay for us. The hotel is in great condition and the staff was very friendly. The indoor pool is a plus. It is also a good location, not to close to downtown to keep the price down, but close enough to be a quick drive from most of the points of interest.
Such a great experience with amazing service! Even better than the usually high expectations I have as Hyatt. We were genuinely welcomed and made to feel special from the moment we checked in. The newly redone hotel is beautiful and the rooms have character that make this hotel feel a step above. We were upgraded to a top level room on check in! The hotel was quiet for sleep but also an excellent location in the center of a bustling area so the best of both worlds. The air conditioning worked very well! If I have only one complaints it’s that the coffee shop is a tad slow and there are no coffee makers in the rooms which is standard at most hotels. Overall, we would stay here again in a heartbeat, and would highly recommend to others looking for a charming hotel with better than usual service in Charleston!
John was a great Bartender! The service was amazing 10/10 hotel. Would definitely recommend!!!
We hosted a company event at the newly renovated Lowline Hotel. The experience was unremarkable and the staff was extremely accommodating to all our needs. I'm hoping we can do an event there again in the future.
We had a wonderful stay at Lowline! Everything is brand new! The location was perfect, the hotel was exceptionally clean, and the staff was outstanding. Everyone—from the valet and front desk to housekeeping—greeted us with a smile and made us feel genuinely welcome. Their friendly service made our stay even more enjoyable. We would definitely stay here again!
I am writing to express my disappointment regarding both a billing issue and the manner in which it was handled by the manager on duty on July 21, 2026.
When I called to report what appeared to be a double billing error, I expected a professional and customer-focused discussion. Instead, the manager seemed more interested in arguing about how I made my reservation than listening to my concerns. He repeatedly insisted that my room was not prepaid and focused heavily on the fact that my reservation was made through Booking.com, stating that it could not have possibly been through Priceline. I attempted to explain that both companies are part of the same corporate family, but my explanation was repeatedly interrupted rather than considered.
What was most disappointing was not the billing issue itself, as mistakes can happen, but the lack of professionalism and willingness to listen. The manager consistently talked over me and appeared more interested in proving a point than resolving a guest concern. This is not the level of service or leadership one would expect in the hospitality industry. Unfortunately, the interaction left me with the perception that his recent leadership position may have influenced his approach to guest relations in a negative way.
I was visiting Charleston on business and would have gladly recommended your hotel to the organization I was representing. However, based on this experience, I cannot do so. Furthermore, I would not recommend the hotel to friends or family members considering accommodations in the area.
I travel to Charleston frequently and have stayed at a variety of properties over the years. Most recently, I moved from Marriott properties to Hyatt House and Hyatt Place locations and decided to give Lowline Hotel a try. Unfortunately, due to this experience, I will be returning to Marriott for future stays.
I hope management will review both the billing issue and the customer service concerns outlined above. Guests deserve to be heard with respect, especially when attempting to resolve a legitimate concern.
Perfect location, excellent staff, beautiful room. We LOVED our stay, and would definitely stay again if available. The decor reminded us of staying at the Chattanooga Choo choo hotel. It was amazing!
