Neptune, an Ash Hotel

The photos were a bit misleading, and as someone who loves a good boutique hotel. I can appreciate some older buildings being converted into a trendy, chic inn. However, this experience was the first one I’d ever had where we actually left and booked another hotel.

Walking in everyone was super nice and friendly, but once we got up to our floor, everything seemed so dingy and mildly musty. Once we entered the room, it immediately smelled like urine, the ac was absolutely not cooling the room down, the lighting was so low with no option for brighter lights and the bathroom shower was so small with zero door just a curtain that kept blowing in the entire time I attempted to shower which is disgusting because you know that’s not being washed.

Once it was ready to try and get through the night, we turned to look at the bed which had clear indentations where people had slept on each side.

At this point I’m sweating, my shower was less then satisfying, it smells like urine and I’m 34 weeks pregnant - and now the bed was the icing on the cake. Honestly the room was not nearly as clean looking as the online photos so we slept on top with our own blankets and my pregnancy pillow that we traveled with and tried to make it through the night after booking something else for the following night.

I am fine with an older building and often this creates character, but this place was dingy, hot, and god knows where the urine smell was coming from. I won’t typically write a review but felt like others who were considering this place need to know before staying as we were heavily mislead.

This was such a fun place to stay! It has a quirky, vintage feel with lots of antique touches that give it a unique aesthetic and plenty of character. One of my favorite features was the old-fashioned lift instead of a modern elevator—it just added to the experience.

This isn't a resort or a hotel with lots of amenities, but that's not what it's trying to be. It's a charming, comfortable place with a personality of its own, and I really enjoyed our stay. I'd definitely stay here again.

Location, bathroom

This hotel has some pros, but unfortunately mostly cons.

The old style narrow elevator is like something out of a 1940's movie which sounds charming, but its not. It can only hold two people, and you have to pull the gate, hold the gate and push the door open, while you're holding luggage.

The hardwood floor was very sticky throughout our room The seating in our room didn't make any sense, one large bean bag chair and an uncomfortable old school type chair.

The mattress was very uncomfortable and more like a cot rather than a mattress. The amount of space on the sides of the bed are so narrow, it's like a rat path. barely 1 ft.

The overall decor has a nice vibe, and the bathroom has a nice elegant retro look, but everything else was so uncomfortable, I won't be returning. I booked this based on all the positive reviews, and I know this hotel is affordable, but in my opinion it just isn't worth it.

The location in awesome you have multiple cute cafes to go to in the morning. There is also a restaurant and a coffee shop within the hotel itself. The restaurant is only open on certain days sadly I did not get to try it. The only thing I did not enjoy was the lack of a small fridge in the hotel room it would be nice to be able to store food items...

Our stay did not begin great because of PARKING.

Despite there being seemingly ample parking in Providence, the desk folks seemed unable to help us troubleshoot a solution. The only thing they could offer was the lot adjacent to the hotel which was more expensive than most of the other lots in the area - AND the lot did not guarantee a parking space. For example, if we took the car out for a few hours we weren't guaranteed a space when we got back - even though you were paying for it!!

While the people at the front desk were neither friendly nor helpful, this really was not a big deal. We just wound up fending for ourselves.


HOWEVER...the overall ambience of the hotel was very nice. It's an older building and full of charm.
And the room was comfortable and clean...although the bathroom was very small.

We loved the location and were able to walk or ride bikes to all our destinations.

And we enjoyed the Dean Bar which is housed within the hotel .

So once the parking was figured out, we had a lovely time!

Staff were brilliant. Location was excellent. Room upgraded on arrival. Very content solo traveller.

The hotel room was extremely unclean. The pillowcases and bed sheets were dirty and covered with hair. The floors were sticky, and the room had a very unpleasant odor.

The photos posted online are misleading and do not accurately represent the actual condition of the hotel or its amenities. Notably, there are no photos of the bathrooms, which appears to be intentional. This feels deceptive and gives customers a false impression, ultimately trapping them into booking a property that does not match its advertised standards.

My son and I had a lovely visit to PVD. Staying at the Neptune was a delight. Within walking distance from the train station, it was easy to get to and a great surprise when we arrived. Now we have not only a chic & chill option in Detroit (the Siren), but also one in PVD!

Nice design o the public spaces.

A surprising and nice change for your normal cookie cutter place for slumber.
Some glam and old world charm. Adds to the vacation.

The bathroom was awesome! The room small with a super creaky bed. Twas quaint though for 1 night. Dillon at the front desk was super! He let us borrow a charger for our phone.
