Given the hotel's international reputation and five-star rating, my expectations were high, but the experience fell short in several areas. Housekeeping was inconsistent: on one occasion, our room was not serviced, and on another, towels, amenities, and toilet paper were not replenished. The room also lacked the level of cleanliness one would expect at this tier. The breakfast buffet offered an extensive selection, though the quality did not match the variety. The Chinese restaurant, by contrast, was a more satisfactory experience but still a far cry from the usual Shang standard.
A beautiful hotel in the centre of Ulaanbaatar, with exceptionally comfortable rooms. In our view, it is unquestionably the finest hotel in the city.
The terrace bar is particularly pleasant and also serves traditional Mongolian dishes, including the famous buuz — steamed dumplings filled with seasoned meat. An excellent base from which to discover the Mongolian capital.
I stay in the SL every time I’m in Ulaanbaatar, but they outdid themselves this trip. Shout out to Nora in the 21st floor lounge for her attention to detail and friendly disposition, Sara in Food Services for looking after me in the morning, and the entire front staff for making sure I felt welcomed.
It presents itself as a “5 star” hotel but, believe me, the only thing that is 5 star is the price. There is a buffet restaurant on the ground floor that is shabby: old tables, sticky to the touch, with chairs that are chipped and faded (and far too low for the tables). A perfectly decent, clean room but let down by poorly trained staff who left the room (for example) without any lavatory paper. We’re not precious travellers: quite the reverse after 50 years but you expect better from a hotel that purports to be of the highest standard. Raymond Kwok, sir, at your Quarry Bay HQ in HK, you need to get someone to get a grip on this hotel of yours: it needs investment and improvement.
Two days in a row without cleaning my room despite of several calls and notifications to the reception.
Lovely hotel! (It is a big hotel ergo worth doing reconn upon arrival to find the gym, pool, etc.) I swam a mile one morning and did a room workout the next as the gym gets busy and is a bit of a trek. The breakfast is exquisite— enjoyed smoked salmon, caviar, and other delicacies each morning. The service is excellent across the board, one highlight being offered a glass of fresh squeezed carrot juice. Elegant and comfy bed. Great room and bathroom lighting. The lightly scented products remind me of the now discontinued Coriander lotion Kiehl’s used to sell.
Very clean and service good.
Все очень удобно
My grandparents stayed here for approximately 6 weeks, and service-wise, environment-wise, it was definitely top-notch.
