We arrived late after a delayed flight and were handed a key to a room that was clearly not properly prepared. The room had rubbish still in the bin, signs the shower had been used, broken TV fittings, and the bedding contained visible stains and even food debris despite the bed being made.
The following morning the manager explained the room had been placed out of service after the previous guest complained about the TV, but somehow became available again through the booking system. The explanation may well be true, but the overall response felt more like brushing it off than actually trying to make things right.
Mistakes happen. What disappointed us most was how quickly we were brushed off afterwards with little more than an apology.
Location to the airport and the restaurant
The location of the hotel was convenient and the dinner was good, but unfortunately that was where the positives ended for me.
The previous guest in my room had clearly been smoking, and the smell in the room was extremely strong. I am not sure how the room was passed as “ready for the next guest” by housekeeping in that condition.
Even more concerning was that there was a dirty old sock covering the fire alarm, which had not been removed prior to my arrival. Thankfully I noticed it and removed it myself, as it would have been dangerous to sleep in the room without a functioning fire alarm.
I reported the smoke smell to reception. While I understand they were unable to move me due to lack of room availability, I would have expected some form of acknowledgment or compensation given the condition of the room — even something small such as a reduced room rate or a dinner voucher.
Overall, the experience was disappointing and well below what I would expect from a hotel stay.
Bed was comfy, room was clean, Dinner meal was delicious.
Both of us had ZERO sleep. The blind wasn't dark enough to block out the big shining lights that shone through the huge window. The worst night we both have ever had at a hotel. The bathroom was darker than out in the room. IAnd one can of Canadian club was $15. We know prices have gone up, but that was ridiculous. Meal was a bit pricey as well, however it was a lovely meal. Thank goodness we had a good flight out that day. It made up for the disappointment of the night before.

Nothing I accidentally booked the wrong dates and I asked ibis if it was possible to change and they confirmed it was okay over a phone call then when they sent me a confirmation email they rejected me with no explanation!

Comfortable room good breakfast and more than adequate evening meal. Staff very helpful.

Unfortunately, my visit to Mackay was under unfortunate circumstances to see a relative in palliative care.
The team were beautiful and I had the most incredible experience with the night Manager and the incredible chef and the waitresses that were running the restaurant. Absolutely beautiful humans. The girls in the restaurant was so lovely to my small daughter and we’re always smiling trying to help.
Good sized room, tidy.
The sheets on one had fresh blood stains and the mattress protector had hair on it. Disgusting.

The restaurant was busy and ordering food was difficult due to low staff numbers. The cuts of meat were superb but then well and truly overcooked. We tried the restaurant several times with similar results.
