Disappointing stay in hotel that over-promises.
Pros:

Great, dramatic location in a green valley. Close proximity to park for leisurely strolls in nature.

Cons:

First step when checking in is getting a lecture on all the do's and don't and rules and things, which is something I have NEVER experienced in any 5-star hotel.
Staff generally unfriendly and not sufficiently fluent in English to understand basic requests and orders.
Duvet on double bed is barely the size of the top of the bed, leading to two uncomfortable nights of sleep.
Had to request a second duvet for a better last night's sleep.
There is no AC cooling. Despite it being rather cold during our visit, the AC heated our room to a very uncomfortable level. I had to call at 1:30am for someone to sort it out since we couldn't sleep. Response was to open the doors/windows to cool down, but the doors in our room was locked.
At least 2 of our 3 nights were uncomfortable. There are many more examples that motivate me to warn visitors not to expect 5-star quality and value for what they pay. This is a shame that Crowne Plaza can allow their brand to be tarnished in such a way.

Pleasant stay at a lovely hotel
Pros:

This was a beautiful hotel with an elegant lobby. The room was large and spacious, and had a beautiful marble bathroom. The towels were large and dried well.
The breakfast restaurant was also elegant.
We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel.

By far not a 5 star
Pros:

I rarely write strongly negative reviews, but the gap between the Crowne Plaza Borjomi’s five-star positioning and the actual guest experience was simply too large to ignore.

Let me start with the positives. The location is excellent, within easy walking distance of Borjomi’s attractions. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, and the bathroom toiletries were genuinely very good.

Unfortunately, that is where the positives largely end.

For a hotel charging five-star rates, the approach to basic guest amenities feels surprisingly penny-pinching. On the first day, two bottles of water were provided for two guests. Thereafter, any additional water had to be purchased from the minibar at highly inflated prices. To add insult to injury, guests are informed that bringing food and drinks from outside the hotel is strictly prohibited.

The room itself presented several issues. The air conditioning did not work, and the balcony door had been locked. After struggling to sleep in an overheated room, we eventually had to call reception close to midnight before someone came to unlock the door. Ironically, the outside temperature was close to freezing and the duvet was noticeably smaller than the bed, making it difficult for two people to sleep comfortably.

The furniture looked tired and dated, while the carpet was visibly dirty and in need of deep cleaning or replacement.

Room service was another disappointment. A simple soup arrived on a serving tray so chipped and damaged that I would not keep it in my own kitchen. No bread, salt, or pepper accompanied the meal. It felt careless and completely inconsistent with five-star standards.

The spa brochure advertises an extensive range of treatments, yet the very first treatment I attempted to book was unavailable.

What frustrated me most was the inconsistency between the hotel’s rules and its own practices. During check-in, guests are presented with numerous regulations, including a strict no-smoking policy. Yet staff members were regularly smoking in the courtyard and around the entrance. On one occasion, the security guard remained standing inside the gate smoking while watching guests approach, making no effort to assist.

The payment system also felt unnecessarily inconvenient. Despite the hotel already blocking a substantial deposit on our credit card, we were unable to charge purchases to our room unless we paid an additional daily cash deposit. Instead, guests are expected to settle transactions immediately, which feels outdated and out of step with international hospitality standards.

Breakfast offered a reasonable variety, but even here execution fell short. The hot items in the warming trays were cold, the bread was stale, and the cups provided for the coffee machine were too small for a flat white, resulting in coffee overflowing onto the counter.

The recurring theme throughout the stay was a hotel trading on its brand and location while failing to deliver the service, maintenance, attention to detail, and guest experience expected at this price point.

Crowne Plaza Borjomi has the potential to be an excellent hotel. At present, however, it feels significantly overpriced and disappointingly underdelivered. For the rates charged, there are far better hospitality experiences available both within Georgia and across Europe.

Overall, a comfortable stay with a fantastic location, but I would recommend skipping the hotel breakfast and definitely
Pros:

The hotel's biggest strength is its excellent location, with easy access to Borjomi's main attractions. If possible, book a room with a balcony, as the views significantly enhance the experience.

The indoor swimming pool was larger than expected, although the water temperature could have been warmer. On the positive side, both the sauna and steam room were properly heated and very enjoyable.

Cons:

Breakfast was not included in our rate, and at GEL 75 per person, I found it rather expensive. There are several cafés and hotels directly opposite offering good breakfast options at roughly half the price, and one even allowed my 8-year-old child to eat free of charge.

The hotel was built in 2015, but the property feel older than its actual age and could benefit from some refurbishment.

Not worth the money
Pros:

Unfortunately the experience did not match what I would expect from a five-star hotel.

First of all, I want to mention that the staff during check-in were very polite and helpful. When I told them that the AC in the room wasn’t working, I contacted reception, and they explained that it was “not AC season.” They still tried to help by bringing a fan to the room, which I appreciated. I really appreciate Gogi Khutsishvili's help who went out of his way yo make sure we were comfortable. I feel like other staff members had a language barrier but that's beside the point.

The room itself was a major letdown. There were visible paint marks on the floor, and overall it looked like the room hadn’t been cleaned properly. The upholstered headboard of the bed was also torn and peeling, which is not something I would expect from a property operating under the IHG brand.

The breakfast was extremely basic as well. I’ve honestly had much better breakfasts at regular four-star hotels that weren’t even part of major international chains like IHG.

The wellness area also needs serious maintenance. The pool did not appear properly cleaned, and while swimming with my goggles on, I noticed small detached pieces from the pool floor scattered around underwater. The Finnish sauna also never worked during our stay, we checked multiple times over two days, and it was always cold.

Another thing I found weird was the policy about not bringing outside food into the hotel, especially considering the room rates guests are already paying.

Overall, I do not feel that this hotel was worth the money, and unfortunately I would not return. This was my first IHG stay in a long time. I understand this is just one property and not necessarily representative of every IHG hotel, but personally I’ve never had similar issues when staying at Hilton properties.

There is definitely a lot that needs improvement here. Overall, I do not recommend.

Pros:

Breakfast was excellent.

Cons:

Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the hotel itself. We traveled around all of Georgia and stayed in many different hotels, and this one was actually the most expensive — yet also the most disappointing.
The hotel is in serious need of renovation. Our room had carpet flooring with stains so deeply embedded that they clearly could no longer be cleaned. The bathroom tiles were loose and worn out. The artificial leather on the bed headboard was completely peeled and torn apart, and pieces of it could even be found in the bedding.
I was also surprised that neither of the TVs in the room were smart TVs — they only showed a few local channels. The room had an unpleasant smell, as if it had never been properly ventilated. The furniture was old, damaged, and heavily worn.
We wanted to treat ourselves to a luxurious and relaxing night, but instead we left feeling very disappointed. After our stay, I noticed many other negative reviews as well, yet the overall hotel rating still remains very high, which is honestly confusing to me.
From the outside, the hotel, its yard, and the nearby river are truly beautiful — but unfortunately, those were the only positives. Everything else was absolutely not worth the amount of money they charge for one night.
