The hotel decor is very inviting from the entrance to the traditional communal courtyard (patio) filled with flowers and a thriving herb garden. We had a delicious breakfast there every day. Our room (and bed) was very comfortable with its own little private courtyard. We loved that the hotel is in the heart of the historic center and yet is very calm and quiet. Staff were helpful, arranging transfer from the airport and helping with an overnight tour to Palenque for us, as well as storing our luggage.

A truly exceptional stay at Casa Lum Hotel in San Cristóbal de las Casas. I rate this hotel with five stars across the board.

From the moment I arrived, the hospitality was outstanding. The front desk staff welcomed me warmly and made me feel comfortable immediately. Throughout my entire stay, every employee I encountered was respectful, attentive, cheerful, and genuinely kind.

The hotel itself is spectacular. The interior design is incredibly cozy, with a perfect balance between rustic and contemporary style that fits beautifully with the boutique luxury experience they offer. The green areas are peaceful and inviting — ideal for sitting quietly and enjoying the atmosphere.

My room was beautifully designed and extremely comfortable. The mattress was of excellent quality, the towels and bathrobes were thick and luxurious, and the shower pressure was almost like a hydro massage — absolutely amazing after a long day walking around San Cristóbal.

One detail that truly stood out was the evening turndown service. Every night during my three-night stay, housekeeping would leave a plate of delicious meringues in the room. Small touches like that make a huge difference and show the level of care this hotel provides.

I did not personally dine at the restaurant, but I heard excellent comments about both the restaurant and the bar, which are apparently award-winning. What also impressed me was the hotel’s curated collection of regional artisan pieces. After searching all over San Cristóbal for quality pottery, I ultimately found the best pieces inside the hotel itself. They even invoiced everything properly and packaged the items carefully for travel.

The location is unbeatable. Casa Lum sits right in the heart of San Cristóbal de las Casas. The moment you step outside, you are surrounded by amazing restaurants, cafés, bars, boutiques, and the best atmosphere in town. Both the daytime energy and nightlife in this area are incredible, and nearly everything is within walking distance.

I also appreciated the hotel’s ecological philosophy and thoughtful sustainable details. For example, the writing paper provided in the room was recycled, and the pencil included a capsule filled with chia seeds so guests can plant it later — something I will absolutely do back home in Cabo San Lucas.

As someone who works in luxury hospitality as a photographer for high-end hotels and brands, I am used to identifying flaws and operational inconsistencies very quickly. I can honestly say Casa Lum feels remarkably balanced in every aspect. It is elegant without trying too hard, comfortable without sacrificing design, and luxurious while remaining warm and authentic.

Another important detail for me was the in-room safe, which allowed me to securely store my professional photography equipment and feel completely at ease during my stay.

The entire property is extremely photogenic and incredibly Instagram-worthy. Everything feels beautiful, intentional, and well cared for.

I will absolutely recommend Casa Lum to friends, and the next time I return to San Cristóbal de las Casas, I will definitely stay here again. An exceptional boutique hotel experience.

Location and helpful staff

Our stay at Casa Lum was almost perfect. We loved the central location, the beautiful architectural style, and the high standard of cleanliness throughout the hotel. It is a very comfortable and aesthetically pleasing place to stay in San Cristobal. However, the included breakfast was a disappointment. It is a basic continental meal consisting of weak coffee, a small portion of fruit, and stale toast. There were no eggs included and no option for fresh bread, which was unexpected given the price of the stay. The restaurant clearly has the potential to deliver high quality, so it was surprising to be served such a mediocre breakfast for three mornings. We still highly recommend the hotel for its beauty and comfort, but we hope they upgrade their breakfast offering to match the rest of the experience.

It is a beautiful hotel with a garden inside and my server was Brother Joe Luis who did an incredible job serving me and recommending me a delicious breakfast. I recommend anyone in San Cristobal to come to this cute restaurant and hotel, you will not be disappointed!

It's located right on the walking street in the center of town, and quiet at night. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good. They don't use any plastic throwaways.
