Breakfast and social hour snacks and wine were great perks. Staff was friendly and helpful. Bed was great. Nice walkable neighborhood.
Carpet in the room was very old and did not feel very clean. Shower water pressure was very low. No refrigerator or coffee maker in the room but there was 24 hr hot/cold water and ice available in the first floor.
There was something very quaint and cozy about the old-fashioned vibes of this historic inn. It was nothing fancy or pretentious and that's just what made it special. I had a small room and it had everything I needed. I was there during a record heatwave, so the AC wasn't working so well, but otherwise my room was great. The front desk staff people were very kind and helpful with recommendations for my trip. I especially loved the daily wine and snacks - a free happy hour - which is where I made some new friends who were also staying there (it was during America's big 250th birthday so we were all very excited about seeing the history and fun celebrations). There was only one staff member in the restaurant (during breakfast) who was always a bit grumpy and rude, but apart from him, everyone was very nice and I had an amazing experience during my first trip to Philadelphia. I would 100% recommend staying here again.
Poor AC but it was during an epic heatwave, so I know the old AC was working as hard as it could.
There was one rude and grumpy staff member who worked in the restaurant at breakfast time. He's not a pleasant person and should probably not work in a position where he interacts with customers. He didn't actually even work hard (he just stood around "waiting" for the guests to finish eating their breakfast but then even hours later it looked like he didn't tidy anything up), and most of all, he was just grumpy and rude acting like somehow the hotel guests were slowing him down with his day.
The breakfast was amazing. Beds were comfy.
Parking was in a garage that I was told would be validated by the hotel when we left when in fact it was only $10 off so I was stuck with a $90 garage bill that was not planned for :(
Friendly service. Clean room. Location. Price.
Room needed painting.
Amazing building with historical taste!!
Excellent location. Super value for money. Basic but functional. Nice neighborhood to walk around. Good food options in the vicinity. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Coffee available throughout the night was awesome for jetlagged customers.
Coffee unavailable between 5-7am for setting up the breakfast. I feel this is an easy fix, but one that would make a world of difference for jetlagged customers. Breakfast was quite basic. Good selection of bread and yogurt, but the waffle maker didn't work.
Autentiškas senovinis pastatas, kuriame įsikūręs viešbutis. Patogus vienvietis kambarys.
Well located, decent breakfast if you have a little bit of fantasy
Where do I begin? From communication with the front staff before arrival to the vibe, cleanliness, and comfort, nothing here would make sense given the price I paid for the stay. Room locks barely work. Dark everywhere and needs at least cosmetic maintenance. What you see in pictures is sort of true except imagine it’s like matching someone on a dating app only to find out they are 20 years older in reality. The hotel is old, tired, and icky in places. AC is loud and makes it very hard to sleep. The curtains are decorative and don’t cover anything beyond the space they are hanging. Carpets are not something that I’d step with my bare foot on. Breakfast staff sprays insects repellent during breakfast almost over your food and fusses over you while the trash can is overflowing and the crumbs are all over the carpet. Water leakage marks on ceilings in the room and the bathroom. Literal dirt at the side of reception desk between the desk and the wall because nobody cared to clean that space ever. Never before have I had the experience where I would try to avoid being at a hotel at all costs.
Great location
Breakfast was superb value for money
Place to fill up drinks bottle in Reception
It was a good stay - the hotel is basic and has basic facilities, so just ensure you manage your expectations!
We had a pleasant stay at the Alexander Inn, and there is definitely a lot to like here. The building has character, the location was ideal for our trip, and the staff was consistently friendly and helpful. However, at the rate we paid (during a high-demand period in late July), the room was not in line with our expectations for that price. It may not be a good fit for travelers who are especially particular about room condition and amenities.
What we liked:
• Ideal location
• Friendly, helpful staff
• Clean room and clean public spaces
• Effective and newer A/C units
• Charming historic character
• Waffle maker at breakfast was a nice touch
What was disappointing:
• We paid about $342/night on average, which felt high for the overall condition of the room
• At the more typical sub-$200 rate, we probably would have considered it a decent value
• Bathroom faucet leaked from the handle
• Alarm clock was not working properly and kept blinking 12:00 even after we tried to set it
• Our requested extra pillows took two days to arrive
• Room keys kept failing, which meant multiple trips to the front desk
• On the day housekeeping brought the pillows, the bed was left unmade
• Body wash bottle needed attention
One note for light-sensitive sleepers: In our deluxe queen (Room 608), the bay window curtains do not fully close by design. There are shutters, but city light can still come through, which may bother some guests.
Overall, this is a likable hotel with a lot of potential, and we did enjoy our stay here.
Run, do not walk from this place. Bed is awful, comforter dirty. Bad untrained employees who don't care. Needed ice for medicine and ice machine is broken with no one caring that it is. This is owned by a private equity group that is clearly milking it dry. Breakfast, cold coffee that was just put out as fresh, no cream for coffee, hard boiled eggs not cooked all the way through. Dingy lighting at best. broken lamps. dirty windows. Just awful. awful awful. Cannot think of one redeeming quality aside for the location. They make it difficult to speak with anyone. They push you to expedia even though I never work with expedia. This is a scam wrapped in bricks.
the two staff people at desk, Tim and Nique, were outstanding. Very helpful. They moved me to another room to get better internet. The breakfast was great, yogurt, boiled eggs, cereal, donuts, and a fresh waffle maker. there was fresh fruit. the rooms were spotless and 4 towels for two people. the towels were thick and luxurious. the neighborhood was gorgeous with brick houses like London. The best place for the money. it is great! GW
Awesome staff! Amenities cannot compete with other hotels in the area! The complimentary social hour and continental plus breakfast sets this hotel above all others! The location is central and I felt very safe walking to nearby attractions! The staff makes sure you are headed in the right direction! They were my personal travel assistants! Also, the room was extremely clean and comfortable! This will be my preferred hotel for future visits for business as well as pleasure! Thank you!
Nothing/ everything was excellent!
La luz que entraba
No parking. Hard mattress. Tv did not work. Could not control the AC. Small room. No port for new I phone charger. Not a great stay!
