We liked the renovated room, there was nothing else that was remotely positive to say about this ‘hotel’

Cons:

When we arrived, we were surprised to see what a poor state the pub was in, this in no way can be described as an ‘hotel’
On arrival back to our room, around 10.15pm, we thought it was closed but on further inspection, it was open at the side street. There were a number of people in the bar and the music was loud
We eventually got into bed by 11pm, music even louder now
It went on until just before midnight, when I rang the ‘hotel’ number. I spoke to a girl and asked when the music was stopping, she said that they were busy & so maybe 1 - 1.30pm!
I asked to speak to the Manager, who clarified they have a license until 1am with an extra 20 mins drinking up time!
I was incredulous & said we would not tolerate the loud music until then & he said they would turn off the music at 12 pm
They did turn off the music but seriously,
They do not serve breakfast, even though they advertise it at £8.50/person
They advertise free WiFi
There are no details anywhere in the room of the WiFi details or password
In short
This should not be listed as an hotel
It is a scruffy pub with bedrooms that doesn’t even serve breakfast

It was ok for one night.
Pros:

Good location.

Cons:

Really noisy - understandable with a bar downstairs but loads of people hung around outside long after closing. Shared bathroom facilities weren't in great condition (one shower for three rooms on top floor, window broken).

Excellent value for money.
Pros:

The room and on-suite facilities were excellent - the room looked as if it had recently been redecorated and the bathroom upgraded. The Bear is located at one end of the High Street, virtually in the centre of town. Although there’s no parking on site, there’s plenty of parking in town, so this was not an issue. I paid a very reasonable rate for my room (3), so I’ve rated my stay as excellent value for money.

Cons:

The Bear is a pub, so expect plenty of noise. However, this was not a problem for me and I had a really good nights sleep.

One night bike tour stay
