Pros:

The food was excellent and the service staff specially Sanath on the restaurant side was superb.

*What happened:*
1. *Misleading info at check-in*: The staff member told me my booking included dinner + breakfast as half-board. I specifically asked because I was aware of the http://booking.com details. That the dinner was not included.
2. *No communication*: Based on that, we had dinner at the hotel on both nights. No one informed us at the restaurant entrance, after dinner on day 1, or at any point that dinner was not included. No bill was given on day 1.
3. *Surprise charge*: On night 2, after we finished dinner and gave our room number, we were handed a bill for 40,000 for both nights' dinners.
4. *No resolution*: No manager or front office person addressed us. We were only told to "pay".
5. *Hygiene issues*: The dining area was unhygienic with flies on serving plates and in curries.

Had we been informed correctly, we would not have had dinner at the hotel on both days as we anyway planned to eat out.

This is a clear case of misleading information to get guests to incur charges.

Great hotel
Pros:

We only spent one night here as it was en route to Trincomalee. We enjoyed the ancient sites of Anuradhapura, and this hotel offered a fantastic pool, breakfast, and friendly service. We particularly enjoyed the Sri Lankan food at breakfast, and the egg hoppers were very tasty.

Had a wonderful stay at Rajarata Hotel! The room was spotless, and the restaurant and bar area were clean, classy, and very welcoming. A special thank you to Nethmi, Dulshan, and Madara at the Front Desk for their warm hospitality and willingness to help, and to Anuja from the restaurant for the kind and attentive service. The entire team made my stay truly enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Excellent hotel in a great location
Pros:

A very friendly welcome, generously sized, immaculately clean rooms with comfortable beds and great bathroom facilities. Delicious breakfast and dinner with a wide selection for all tastes. The pool was amazing and beautifully kept.
Definitely recommend staying here, well located to visit all the local attractions and an easy tuk tuk ride into the city centre

The staff was friendly.

Cons:

The washroom emitted a rather foul smell all the time, the triple room triple bed was hard and the person who slept in it had a neck pain the other day. The room curtains are not blackout curtains so the light comes in very heavy to the room.

Some of the staff didn’t have warm enthusiastic smiles that many hotels had . Needs to improve the happy vibe .
Pros:

Location which was close to all the shrines and temples.

Cons:

The wash room had red patches on walls and grime on the bottom of shower cubicles. The mosquitos in the bathroom and room .

There was a large group of tourists/ about 50 from another country and the buffet food had catered mainly for them which was not my choice. The guests were touching the food with hands and putting them back . The restaurant manager tried to stop it but there should have been more staff near buffet tables to prevent this .It was funny they were eating while walking.
