The Staff, particularly those serving in the Restaurant were friendly at all times. The location of the Hotel is obviously a massive factor in its success with lovely views over the bay. The meals in the Restaurant were generally very good but there was surprisingly, to us, what seemed a limited menu. The building is old and built for different times and tastes.
To me, it did not seem anything like good value for the money spent for accommodation, meals in the Restaurant and drinks from the bar. It gives off an aura of being somewhat dated with its fixtures and fittings. We were also put off by the amount of stairs leading to our room. Some had carpet fraying at the edges and the carpet in our otherwise spotlessly clean room was stained.
Good overnight stay to visit the Scillies. The staff were helpful. The breakfast was served early and was very good. Very clean. Nice refreshments tray in the room.
It was too hot in the bedroom. A fan was provided but didn’t really cool the room. It was an exceptionally hot night though.
This is an old hotel dating back to 1860. Not the modern interior that meets you in most hotels today. Saying that though, the staff were very welcoming, courteous and professional. The room was very comfortable and the shower room was less dated than many other hotels I've stayed at. The only drawback, at least in my room, was the poor sound insulation, especially from the toilet above! The restaurant food and breakfast were nothing special but absolutely fine for a shorter stay. The views across the sea were an added bonus for those who come from places more inland. It was what was to be expected from such an old historic hotel. For me, it served its purpose and I will definitely be back on my way to and from the Isles of Scilly where I live.
Staff were great.
The staff worked so hard but they were not enough of them. The kitchen was too far away for the service to work.
Man kommt super einfach überall hin.
Central location inPenzance, walking distance from station and local attractions
Very small single room, lots of stairs, ancient plumbing. Awful service at breakfast
Room 93 overall was fine with a good view as compared to a previous stay on level 1 overlooking the car park
Noisy doors slamming especially at night
I've been staying at The Queens 2-3 times a year for past 3-4 years. I primarily stay due to it's location. I mainly use the hotel for bed and breakfast. The breakfast staff are always very amiable and pleasant.
1)This year I was visiting friends for Mazey weekend. I had also booked a room for my Daughter and her friend from Thurs- Sat. My Daughter was due to arrive at 2pm on the Thurs. I spoke to reception prior to her arrival to see if my Daughter's room would be available early. The receptionist was very pleasant and said she would check when my daughter arrived. I met my Daughter at reception at 2pm.
A different receptionist was on desk as the earlier pleasant lady was sorting another customer out. The other receptionist just stated "Check in is at 4pm". I acknowledged that I knew this but that I had spoken earlier to her colleague and she had told me she would check. The receptionist then just repeated "Check in is at 4pm". I told my Daughter and her friend just to put their bags and freshen up in my room (after their 400 mile drive).
I was disappointed by the tone of the receptionist.
2) I appreciate that the Queens is an old building but perhaps , as Summers are getting hotter, maybe it is time to start looking at Air Conditioning. I fully appreciate that fans had been placed in all the rooms and throughout the hotel but cost of powering fans will far outweigh AC.
3) I noticed a change at breakfast this time with when you get your tea/coffee at breakfast. For the past 5-6 visits the hot beverages would be served first. However, on this visit it was served with the breakfast. I personally prefer to receive my coffee first but understand this could just be personal choice.
Room was lovely, as was the breakfast (as always).
Breakfast good. Staff responsive. Pleasant lounge and seating areas with great sea view.
Room was poorly ventilated. Pillows very poor quality, flat probably old.
Position and lift
Meal service slow and had to ask for marmalade at breakfast time. Can as a dollop in a cup.
Bedroom comfy but drains smell in bathroom and flush had to be repeated
