Categories

Cleanliness
8.9
Multiple reviews explicitly note rooms as clean, well maintained and smelling fresh; overall cleanliness is a clear positive.
Service
8.3
Many mentions of helpful, pleasant and exceptional service at breakfast and dining; some complaints about unfriendly bar staff and occasional reception delays, resulting in a slightly mixed but overall positive score.
Location
9.4
Consistently praised as central and convenient ('heart of Stow', 'great location', 'central location'); location is one of the strongest aspects.
Room Quality
6.8
Multiple negatives: mattresses past their best or bouncy, curtains not closing, small room footprint due to sloping ceilings, occasional shower failures and limited cooling — lowers the room quality score.
Amenities
8.8
Good range of amenities cited (restaurant, bar, outdoor patio, parking, breakfast options); lack of effective air conditioning for some stays is noted but overall amenities are strong.
Value for Money
8.2
Several guests call it good value and note quality breakfast/food; one review felt the room standard did not match the price, producing a largely positive but slightly mixed score.
Food and Beverage
9.2
Repeated praise for food quality, excellent breakfast choices and enjoyable dining on the patio; restaurant offerings are frequently highlighted as a major positive.
Overall Experience
7.6
Many guests enjoyed their stay and would recommend or return, but recurring room-quality and occasional staff inconsistencies (bar/reception) and cooling issues temper the overall impression.

Lovely decor, good location, staff need a lesson in hospitality
Pros:

The decor, bedding and pillows were lovely.
Location was right in the town centre so easy to pop out and explore.
Parking available at the rear of the property.

Cons:

My room backed directly onto the kitchen extract which operated from 6.30am to 11pm. Even with the windows closed, it was very loud and woke me up.

There was a sign on the Reception desk saying that it didn’t operate 24/7 (fine) and the number listed to call was apparently only for emergencies. That same number was on a letter within the room (no other phone number stated) but when I called it to report an issue, I was abruptly told by a male employee that number was for emergencies only. When I explained it was printed on the letter in the room he repeated himself abruptly, told me I’d have to go down to the front desk and proceeded to hang up on me.
I went down to Reception in my pyjamas, and spoke to a female employee and explained that the person on the phone had been quite rude to me. Knowing it was the same man that had checked me in when I arrived, I saw him about to enter the Reception area and sheepishly turn around and creep out.
Not a hospitable experience nor was it desirable for me to have to leave my room in my pyjamas and no shoes to report a maintenance issue. The woman kept saying ‘I’m sorry we are a pub with rooms’ which isn’t an acceptable response.
Print another number on the letter in the room for guests to contact should the guest have any issues.
This was not a cheap room rate at £200 for one night and was the smallest/lowest priced room available.

Do better. Remember your guests are not only expecting a bed to sleep in. The service that sits around there is also critical and fell short on this occasion.

No fridge in the room (despite their being a large cabinet beside the bed which could have easily accommodated one) so no way of keeping snacks/drinks cold.
Side table lamp only provided on one side of the bed which I didn’t sleep on and it couldn’t be plugged in elsewhere. No switches to operate from my side of the bed and being in recovery from shoulder surgery meant I had to get out of bed to turn it on/off.

Good value for money, and great Hotel
Pros:

Room spacious with all facilities as advertised. Helpful and pleasant staff. Breakfast had a good choice using quality produce. located in the middle of the village. All other Cotswold locations with 20-300 minutes, so good place to use as a base
