The staff were friendly and welcoming. The spa is lovely in the sunshine and the decor/interior design is beautiful. My mother in law had hurt her finger and the team were quick to bring her a plaster and some ice.
Some of the front of house staff seem inexperienced. Our room wasn’t ready at check in time at 3pm - we were offered to use the spa but the team had already taken our bags so I didn’t really see how that was possible. One of our bags was forgotten at check in. No one explained to use how things worked in the room either.
For the cost of the mews house stay, I have to say I was disappointed. There was no turn down, the bathroom had a terrible drains smell, the TV in the bedroom had a dirty remote control and the volume didn’t work, we only had 1 towel each, the bedroom lights didn’t work and no one helps pull suitcases up the stairs upon arrival or departure.
We were given a tour of the spa upon arrival and it was never mentioned that the gym only opened at 7:30 despite us asking about opening times (we were made to believe it was only the spa and pool which opened at 8). We weren’t allowed to use the gym until 7:30 despite being ready to use it at 6:30 and having staff around. Similarly we were left waiting outside the breakfast venue until exactly 7am even though the place was ready. It constantly felt like customer experience was not the priority and everything was just what was offered, no more.
The breakfast was not great forr a 5 star hotel. I travel a lot and the lack of à la carte options is unusual. We weren’t offered more hot drinks, the eggs were oily, and everything seemed like an effort - for example one of the waiting staff refused to clear our spare glasses away after bringing us a cup of tea (despite having an empty tray) saying that was ‘someone else’s job’.
The spa is also not up to scratch with other 5 star hotels. There’s plenty of ateam rooms and saunas but no ice bath which would be nice. They also seemed to regularly run out of seating options. Again, I asked if we could use the spa facilities a bit beyond 11am and the reception staff just said ‘well that’s at the discretion of the spa staff’.
My daughter and I have been going to Sopwell House for an overnight stay for a few years now. It's a wonderful break, totally relaxing. The outdoor jacuzzies are a delight, set in lovely surroundings. The food gorgeous. Staff are very welcoming and helpful and on this occasion we'd like to say a special thank you to Jayshree who went out of her way to be professionally caring. It made us feel valued. Thank you Jayshree and all the staff who made our stay so lovely. We look forward to seeing you next year.
Was spotlessly clean and the food was 10 outa 10
The property was brilliant and the facilities! Was just a shame after we left the property The management let it down!
Once we’d arrived home I received an email to say they had mistakenly refunded me for my room deposit and the hotel room cost!
Asking me to re pay the £404.10 for the room that they had refunded to me by mistake! Even though the money won’t be credited to my account for 3-5 days!
Of corse I have agreed to send the money for the room once the refunded money is cleared in my account!
As a gesture of good will after a nice stay I offered to pay the money back today before even receiving it myself, and if they would be willing to offer us something for our next stay, considering the inconvenience it has caused especially as it was there mistake, resulting in me being out of pocket by £404.10 for 3-5 days! Only to be insulted with the offer of 2 free drinks at the bar!
Really hate to complain like this but feel insulted
I have now visited Sopwell House several times for business breakfast or lunch or coffee meetings over recent months and I have gone away very satisfied with the experience. The hotel has always been clean and tidy and the staff have been friendly and welcoming. The food and beverage and service have been as you would expect from a quality hotel and there is plenty of parking.
A brilliant first visit to Omboo. The food was exceptional and the team handled our food allergies with real care, meaning we could relax and enjoy the whole experience.
A special mention for Vincent, whose warm and attentive service made the evening… he even gave me a chopstick lesson. We’ll absolutely be back.
Style and character
Couldn’t thought it
Very light and modern , the facilities are amazing
Nothing
Wow, what an amazing hotel! My wife and I have been to many hotels and this is definitely the best one we have been too, it really should be 5 stars! We went for our 10 year anniversary and stayed in the mews suite which was amazing! The spa was unreal, dinner tasted so good and the staff were really friendly! Definitely will be coming back and recommending this place!
Lovely spa area. Beautifully manicured gardens. Received a relaxing massage (which made me fall asleep). Top customer service in the restaurant Omboo from our host Vincent. He went out of his way to explain everything on the menu and made some great suggestions. We especially enjoyed the experience of Omboo - the food was amazing. At breakfast, if you could think of anything you could want at breakfast, they had it. Everything cooked spot on.
So many heartfelt, beautiful memories in this place. Sopwell is where me and my wife have spent a lot of time together. However, don't expect any warm welcomes back or any effort for accomodation from Nicole, or any of the managers.
We've decided to return and schedule our 1st anniversary at Sopwell. As a professional, I respect the fact that our availability needed some honest effort to meet, but comments such as "if you don't book, there are plenty of returning members that come back to us anyway" are not welcome.
Not a single crap was given by Nicole to even say a basic comment such as "happy anniversary", "happy to see you guys back again", "thank you for choosing us and staying so many times, let me see what I CAN do for you" instead of the 101 answers she threw back, on how she CAN'T accomodate anything, nowhere, at all.
Whether you've spent a few quid on a massage or spent over 20 grand with the establishment like I have - expect your family to be treated as another number in their booking software - never like an old valued customer.
We'll be taking our business to places who value customers and people first. Clearly, that value is dying with this establishment.
2 stars for the memories.
1 star for the effort.
We received a voucher for Christmas gift and decided to use it for our anniversary weekend. When we checked in we was told that our room had been upgraded to chic. Which was nice. However the only down fall was as we had hot weather there was no fridge in the room to keep water cold. Even though we had air con it was a very hot room.
When we checked in they never told us that we also need to check in at the Cottonmill spa so by the time we had lunch and went to the spa all the deck chairs had been taken. It’s just a pity they didn’t have more of them. Especially with the lovely weather we won’t to be able to enjoy the it.
When I booked over the phone and took up the 60 minute massage for me and my husband I wasn’t asked if we wanted a couples massage and found out on the day that we couldn’t do it together as it was not booked.
When we went to lunch I ordered still water and we got sparking and when I told Susanna about this she rolled her eyes as if I’d made the mistake but I know that I didn’t.
Really well kept and clean. Great facilities
We had an amazing time at a lovely afternoon tea with myself, my daughter, and my mum. The staff were all lovely and friendly, and the restaurant’s atmosphere was beautiful. We absolutely loved the setting and the vibe. We hadn’t been since the 2023 refurb, so it felt fresh and new to us. But the absolute highlight of our visit was the incredible Clara. She was so friendly, warm, and personable, she truly made our afternoon. She chatted with my mum so kindly and was so complimentary. She really made it for us!
Had nice food and Vincent served us and was very helpful
