I made a reservation for two rooms for four adults, from 15th–16th August 2026, through Booking.com. The booking clearly stated “No credit card needed – Pay at the property”, with check-in between 2:00 PM and 9:30 PM.

After a long drive from Colombo and spending the day completing our religious rituals in Kataragama, we arrived at the hotel at around 5:00 PM, well within the stated check-in time.

Instead of being welcomed, we were told that our confirmed reservation had been cancelled without any prior notification because it had not been prepaid. How were we supposed to prepay when the booking specifically stated “Pay at the property” and no advance payment was required?

We were then told that the hotel apparently cancels Booking.com reservations because some guests do not show up. If that is their concern, they could simply contact guests through Booking.com and confirm their arrival rather than cancelling confirmed reservations without warning and leaving people stranded.

This was absolutely shocking and deeply offensive. Whatever a person's religion or background, no guest should ever be subjected to such discrimination.

The combination of cancelling a confirmed reservation without notice, contradicting the advertised booking conditions, and the alleged discriminatory statement made this one of the most shocking and unacceptable hotel experiences we have ever had.

Cons:

It was a very bad stay at Samwill. I really don’t like the property. It was not cleaned properly. There were hair all around the room. Luckily we had some clothes to cover the beds.

Terrible stay
Pros:

It was absolutely rubbish 😡😡

Cons:

Room is not cleaned ,smell comes out of the gully and whole room is smells like a toilet.we stayed 1 night but it was very bad night for us.also bed sheets pillows were terrible 😡😡

Passable
Pros:

Cleanliness of their rooms are the best ad probably only plus point. Just one water bottle was the only extra thing in the room. Staff were friendly but not skilled or experienced.

Cons:

There is no way contact anyone if you need something. At least a facility to make your own coffee or Tea would be nice.
