Great location
Pros:

Surprise upgrade when we arrived. We had a view of Yorkminster, and of the surrounding streets.
The staff was amazing. Huge shout out to Alison and the rest of the staff there.
Dinner and breakfast were both 10's.

Bad
Pros:

Not much

Cons:

For this price, this hotel is bad value for money. The facilities in general are tired and dirty - the carpet to the staircase looked disgusting, for instance, and in my bathroom (room 11) the pipework to the WC had nasty deposits all over it. The owners of this hotel evidently have no idea about quality or cleanliness or how to incentivise either the management or the staff - although the staff in themselves were fine and in particular the guy who served me breakfast was good. Albeit that the breakfast was not good. The cheapest possible sausages. Mushrooms so wet you couldn't eat them (and I love mushrooms). A tiny amount of scrambled egg. And even though I paid £240 for the room for one night, they still insist on charging for a flat white at breakfast. Stingy or what.

The room stank. I can't tell you of what - it was an indescribeable smell. But not surprising because even though there were huge sash windows, they were all painted shut aside from a 100mm opening to one of the narrow sashes. This room has not been aired for decades, and if you're staying there you can't air it either even if you want to.

The bathroom was large, but the bath (and the shower in it) narrow.

The decor was unpleasant.

The sheets were poor quality.

Do not waste your money on this place!

Pros:

Friends get away.
Pros:

The hotel was beautiful and in a great location for just about everything you go to york for. We have passed the hotel lots of times and always said we would like to stay there.

The reception staff we're lovely and couldn't do enough for us.
The room was clean and well maintained. It was a very hot weekend, and the hotel had supplied a dyson fan and an air-conditioning unit in our room, so it was lovely and cool.

Cons:

I've got to say breakfast wasn't great, there was no-one to great us on arrival, ( we waited for a few minutes before finding a table for us and our friends ) no-one acknowledged us, we had to ask one of the staff members to put our breakfast order in as no one spoke to us at all, yet people who came in after us we're all spoken to and showen to a table. Ive got to say didn't really enjoy my breakfast very much. we have had a lot better in different hotels around York.

Weekend away
Pros:

The reception staff we're very attentive and couldn't be more helpful.

Cons:

There was no-one to great us at Breakfast. We had to get someone's attention to order our breakfast. The guy that helped us was nice but the fact no-one had even acknowledged us was a bit of putting.

Exceptional
Pros:

I chose this hotel for it's amazing location near the Minster but it is so much more than that. The exceptional team at Dean Court made mine and my mum's stay fantastic. Due to an issue with my mum's mobility, she required a different room from the one I booked. The lady on reception (I think her name was Bea but I could have misheard so apologies if I got this wrong) was amazing and solved the issue with my mum's comfort in mind. Due to this intervention, my mum had a fantastic and comfortable stay also.
The rooms were well-equipped and had everything we needed. The bed was so comfy too. We visited Dean Court during a heat wave (34C) and I was so appreciative of not only the Dyson fan, but the air conditioning unit too. It made a huge difference managing the temperature of the room.
I stayed in the Langley Suite and it was beautiful. Tastefully decorated, fitting of the hotel, cosy lighting and exceptionally clean. You can tell the housekeepers work remarkably hard with a superb eye for detail.
I also wanted to mention the vallet service which I was very grateful for. It was run very efficiently and I felt my car was safe.
Breakfast was delicious with plenty of options, served by a friendly and professional team. It was lovely to dine looking out the window at the Minster also.
Thank you to all at Dean Court. We shall definitely stay here again.

Cons:

I thought it was a bit strange that when settling the bill for the entire stay, the card machine asked whether I would like to tip the entire bill. As a percentage, this adds significantly to the bill. This practice is not common in the UK and I have never come across it before staying in 4 or 5 star hotels. I think most visitors would rather tip individuals in the moment. It seemed like a generic decision from the hotel group rather than Dean Court itself.

The hotel is so well placed to be in the middle of it all and the valet parking a real bonus.
Pros:

The room was good but could have done with a slightly larger width wardrobe to accommodate some shelves. The beds ( we had twin) were extremely comfortable and the bedside lights were very good for reading. Overall verdict was very favourable.

Cons:

Didn’t like the do it yourself much at breakfast (apart from the cooked bit which, by the way, was freshly cooked to order and good) perhaps a tray would be better instead of juggling things with two hands rather than going back multiple times to get what you want.

Marvellous hotel in excellent location
Pros:

The property was in a beautiful location. The staff helped us park our car with their valet parking. It was easy to get around breakfast was excellent. We had a beautiful room overlooking the Minster. It was spacious uncomfortable.
Nice bar area.

Cons:

I didn’t like the poor quality bathroom accessories pump bottles. It was difficult to get contents out and they’ve watered down the shampoo which was very tricky.
