Lovely hotel, but rooms aren’t up to scratch for the price you pay.
Pros:

Receptionist was very friendly. Very good breakfast and good waiting on staff

Cons:

Room location, top floor. Despite paying full price for this hotel, the room was extremely warm and looked untidy in parts. The biscuits had been eaten (present by staff) as wrappers were in the bin (didn’t want them but it’s the principle) bed was small and bathroom smelt slightly mouldy so overall disappointing given the price I paid

Complacent.
Pros:

Not much really .

Cons:

I try to look for positives but we stayed in this hotel a few times over the years and it just doesn't meet expectations, never mind 4 star expectations.
I find the staff generally complacent or surly despite trying to be polite and respectful. Perhaps this time it was the abnormally hot weather, or wedding fatigue but sometimes you wonder who is giving who the service
A desk chair in the room might have been best found in a skip than kept in the room. Surely it was obvious it should be tracked with a torn cover in several places.
I hate to give a bad review because I celebrate good service and ambience. And there are of course some good staff working tirelessly to make the difference.
But I now just won't stay there again.
The food was also not anything to write home about.
This is not a four star hotel. Three stars out there blast it out the water.

Disappointing Special Occasion
Pros:

Being a heat wave day, before booking I enquired on whether the restaurant was cooled by air conditioning. I was assured that it was and so completed the booking. On arrival I discovered that I had been misled and there was no air conditioning in the restaurant! We were offered the opportunity to celebrate our "occasion" in the, rather less smart, bar area which was air conditioned but quite inappropriate. We declined. The first course was named as "Prawn Cocktail" yet whilst the "prawns" were generous in quantity, individually they were quite small so that they could easily have been mistaken for shrimps. They were also watery and lacking in taste which was not compensated by the accompanying pink sauce served, I assume, as a cheaper substitute for a rich "Marie Rose" sauce. I had earlier ordered a bottle of Picpoul de Pinet and in its absence I had to leave the table and my starter in a search for it. The main course of Sea Bass could not be faulted in its preparation, presentation and taste. Yet questions still arose regarding the size of the portions of sea bass and the need to order, and pay extra for, supplementary common vegetables to complete the plate. On having earlier being asked if we required water on the table, we requested simple "tap" water. It never arrived.
I ordered an ice cream desert for safety and we declined coffee.

Filthy
Pros:

Unfortunately filthy.
Can understand a little wear snd tear but not filth! see photos.
Also safe not working or repaired after asking.
No air conditioning so ridik hot.
No need for blaring piped music into the back garden - which was empty- on a Sunday evening.
Could be s really charming place but needs love.
Had a family lunch on a Saturday whilst a Wedding was going on and it was chaotic.

All can be forgiven but not filth !

Lovely stay close to all amenities in Alderley Edge
Pros:

So convenient
Very nice dining options
Very close to lots of lovely walks including to the Edge, and near Wizard’s tearoom. Also lots of other lovely cafes and restaurants close by. Good for trips to Derbyshire and all over Cheshire. Very convenient for mainline station to London/ Manchester Piccadilly

Cons:

The heat, but there’s not much that can be done about that in this weather. Although, if shutters were fixed on the outside of the windows, like in France, it would be so much better and no need for electric fans or to install air conditioning.
The paintwork outside our room really needs attention as it is rotten and needs replaced then painted. The difficulty is getting access to the windows over the glass room of the dining room but it will have to be done sooner than later. Hire a man with a cherry picker!
