The bar area was good with a lovey terrace.
The room was small and under a staircase which proved noisy. Didn't feel it had had the best of cleans between guests either.
The room was comfortable and adequate for our requirements. The breakfast had a good choice to select from. The bar facilities were cosy and friendly
For the purpose of our stay there wasn't anything we didn't like
most of the staff were excellent. The bar menu was good and the food we ordered both Thursday evening and Friday lunch was good.
A mix up at reception concerning my credit card prepayment caused a lot of problems and staff refused to serve us anything . I had to go to reception twice to sort it out, such a shame as once sorted the service was good.
Small double room was very small with bed against the wall. Even though in a heat wave radiators were on in the corridor !
Very tired furnishings especially in the shared spaces , worn carpets on the stairs.
For the cost was not up to expectations .
Bread choice at breakfast limited was this really a 4 star hotel..
Beautiful place, interesting building and history. Staff were lovely, room clean and comfortable.
Room was clean and tidy. On the whole, the staff was very friendly and efficient, particularly the breakfast staff who were fabulous and a credit to the hotel. In particularly the cooked breakfast was delicious, with fabulous ingredients
Really enjoyed the garden space, with the lovely walk.
I was staying with a friend, but I can absolutely see what a beautiful place it would be for a wedding.
My mine grumble was the heat in the room. As Britain was undergoing a heat wave, there was no AC in the room and we were super hot, with only a small window to allow air in. We found a fan in the cupboard, but quite honestly it didn't help much. It would also be nice to have a little fridge in the room.
Staff of all disciplines were excellent.
Location
Cleanliness very poor. Some staff very good but some very poor
Located close to where we needed to be for a wedding.
The room we booked was a superior room non smoking, we got given a room that stank of smoke, you could see the colour of the walls in the bathroom were brown or starting to go brown in places because of cigarettes. The aircon didn’t work, and the shower wasn’t the best pressure. We were disappointed by the stay and did not think it was worth £205 we paid.
Na
We used a wowcher to book dinner and bed and breakfast.
The evening went well from arrival atthe Oak Room resturant and being shown to our table to climbing the stairs* to our room *literally- there is no lift!)
Service was attentive without being intrusive.
We had the olives and chicken wings as starters. The sole dish for main which was beautiful, and fruit platter desert. We both had wine, my partner the Zinfadel Rose and me the, Pino Girgio, White
We had coffee after. Our "wowcher" covered the food, and a modest extra covered the drinks.
Would definitely recommend and would dine there again if invited
Booked for an evening meal in The Oak Room Brasserie with friends for our wedding anniversary.
Good choice on the menu, food was excellent as usual and the staff helpful, pleasant and efficient with their service.
Will certainly book again.
The location and grounds of the hotel were very nice and the entrance looks lovely as you drove up to it.
Unfortunately, our stay was disappointing for several reasons.
Although it was a very hot day and evening, none of the rooms we booked had air conditioning. The rooms became extremely hot, and despite opening the windows as much as possible, there was very little airflow, making them quite uncomfortable.
As a disabled guest, who had given the hotel prior notice of my accessibility issues, I also found the accessibility incredibly poor. There were no ground-floor twin rooms available when we arrived at 12:30pm, so we were allocated a first-floor room. Unfortunately, there was no lift, only several flights of stairs, which made accessing our room difficult and inconvenient.
We had also booked dinner at the Oak Restaurant in advance. We were required to pay a deposit and pre-order our meals, so it was very disappointing to arrive and be told that some of the dishes we had already selected were unavailable. It seemed strange to ask guests to choose and pay in advance if those choices could not be guaranteed.
The most concerning issue occurred at checkout. We paid our bill at reception using Apple Pay on the card machine, but the hotel also attempted to take payment using the card originally used to make the booking, resulting in a duplicate charge of over £200 being placed on our account. We were told the pending transaction would automatically be released within around 10 days, but we couldn’t understand how this had happened when the bill had already been paid in person. After making a complaint and contacting both our bank and the hotel’s accounts manager, the duplicate payment was finally released after four days. While the issue was eventually resolved, it caused unnecessary stress and inconvenience.
Overall, there were several avoidable issues during our stay that significantly affected our experience.
Ok
Ok
The location was perfect only 20 minutes away but it felt like you were in middle of nowhere. Our room wax lovely and queit with 4 poster bed and everything you could need, clean, ground floor. If I had one negative and that is just a personal choice the bed was too soft for me but it did not detract anything from our stay. We had rest before exploring, calm and peaceful. There was chocolates in room as it was my husbands 70th surprise birthday present. We used the pool, gym and facilities. I chilled by the pool reading and we walked in the grounds and found the sunken garden and finished off having superb meal in the brasserie restaurant. Food was perfect and service received from Jake and team was brilliant. It was calm, relaxing and great service all round. Would highly recommend and not overly expensive. Breakfast was also good, plenty of choice and great service.
Overall we had a really enjoyable stay, the hotel is extremely clean, well maintained all the staff were friendly and helpful, we would definitely return and plan to do so in the future. We both agreed that we felt totally relaxed by our experience and of course the weather helped. Once we arrived everything we needed was on ground floor and easy to access.
Overall, decent, especially given the dearth of choices in the area. Staff were pleasant.
Quite dated and basic, but worst of all, no aircon - given increasing prevalence of heatwaves amid climate change, it’s time to start investing; fan helped but wasn’t adequate. Rooms lack a refrigerator; staff did quickly provide us one upon request. It’s a destination for golfers, but otherwise isolated.
