Nice location trading on reputation
Pros:

Good location it’s a wedding venue . Breakfast was good

Cons:

Lots of very tired infrastructure , lousy attention to detail and decent fittings squeezed into tiny space eg stepping over toilet to get into shower over bath

Picture is just two of the fourteen spiders that graced our bathroom

It was a very comfortable and convenient stay. This was our first visit to the hotel and we would be very happy to retur
Pros:

The location is excellent with lovely views and has good parking facilities. It is within walking distance to the Bolton Priory estate … or a very short drive. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The beds are very comfortable and the bedding and towels are fresh and clean. The bedroom area was very quiet and our sleep was undisturbed. The room has coffee/tea making facilities and fresh milk is in the fridge. Instead of the usual biscuits the hotel provides a jar of pieces of flapjack which are absolutely delicious and very more-ish and even better, they are replenished every day! The food is good and we enjoyed our breakfasts and an evening meal at the brasserie.

Cons:

The stairs and especially the small landing area to our room were quite dark and poorly lit. There was no mention of a lift being available. The lamp behind the armchair wasn’t working. My husband has poor eyesight so this was an issue. His other problem
was accessing the shower which was over a high sided bath. He really struggled with this. Maybe if we had mentioned his sight and moderate mobility problems at the time of booking a more suitable room could have
been found for us. The bedroom paintwork and decor are now very battered and dated and although clean the room looks rather down at heel and in need of refurbishment. We appreciate that it is an old building and its character must be preserved and that improvements should not detract from this.

Pros:

The location it was ideal for where we were exploring.
The food in the Brassiere was exceptional and pricing was good.
Easy parking

Cons:

Paintwork etc just a bit tired around the whole hotel. The spa area is seperate to the hotel - there is a main road to cross.

Attractive property, great location for a walk in the countryside, mixed results from the kitchen.
Pros:

The property is very attractive, with lovely gardens. We were able to enjoy a lovely walk to Strid Woods directly from the front door. Our ground-floor bedroom was spacious and comfortable. My breakfast was excellent, especially the quality of the bacon, sausage and toast. My partner's veggie breakfast wasn't quite so good.

Cons:

A minor dislike: Our ground-floor room overlooked the garden and lacked privacy because other residents were nearby and could potentially see into our room. The bathroom was tiny and required minor gymnastics to climb into the bath/shower. Our major disappointment was dinner. The staff were perfunctory, and not very attentive. My steak was tiny, not well cooked, and the chips were hard. Our meal was poor value for money. Note that dinner is served in a different restaurant to where breakfast is served.

Lovely.
Pros:

The historical lounge area with the antlers displayed. Homemade flapjack in the room was absolutely delicious. Though it was nothing special I found the pancakes and cheese selection in the breakfast exceptional

Cons:

Nothing

Lovely hotel, friendly staff, nice spa and a beautiful country location.
Pros:

Beautiful location and nice staff

Cons:

Cocktail bar a little old fashioned so elected to have pre dinner drinks outside. May look better in the winter when sofas might look more appealing but maybe it’s in need of a refresh.
As bedroom was ground floor could have done with some gauze curtains so wasn’t possible to look into room from outside. Did have to get dressed and undressed in the bathroom as couldn’t in the room (closing main curtains in the morning to get dressed in the dark or with lights on is not usual).
Parma ham is not customary on Eggs Benedict, maybe call it something else! Would have made a different choice if I’d known and there was lots of choice at breakfast.
