Gorgeous building, quiet location & friendly staff, and ducks! Large room with a proper bathtub. Great place for a midweek getaway.
We stayed midweek when it’s quiet.
You have to pay extra for use of the facilities (pool, gym sauna etc)
It was a lovely old looking castle type hotel
Nothing
The Breakfast was lovely although it was all self service which wasnt to my expectations.
Tea and Coffee served to the table is a minimum standard in my opinion.
Initially we were going to plan our wedding here at first thoughts but then ..
Staff attitude was very un-welcoming and un polite, everything seemed a chore and hard work when requesting the smallest of requests.
The main bar didnt open until 4pm very disheartening and the the main bar didnt open at all as far as I could see on the Saturday.
The only place to eat and have a drink before 4pm was in the Bistro area, which had a very small verity of Alcoholic beverages.
Although the staff within the bestro area were brilliant and cheerful (Thank god or we may have left that very night).
We were also very upset that we were not told that a prom night was happening on that weekend, and were kept awake until gone midnight with the sound of the party below. ( we booked well in advance so I believe that this could have been discussed prior to our stay )
The weekend stay was a very very hot one, the rooms are not air conditioned and a small fan was our only source of relief... absolutely terrible..
We will never stay here again that is for sure if I could give it minus figures I sure would!!
The most upsetting thing for me was the fact that is was my partners birthday, and truly wanted a very special occasion for her which in my opinion was ruined.
I booked for me and my partner to have a special meal at the resturant and as it says on the brochure, to wear smart clothing, which we did but was stood left waiting to be seated for 15 minutes even after booking with the reception to be seated, when another couple turned up to be seated (a heavily pregnant lady and her partner) they had the exact same issue and we though she was going to collapse at one stage the heat was terrible.
When we were finally served our food it wasnt to my standards at all....
Bland and very small portions!
Easy check in.
Room was very dated, not very clean in places. Bed over soft and probably very old. Bathroom.was fine and mostly clean. No air-conditioning, so room was uncomfortably hot, so slept poorly. I wouldn't return.
The waiting staff were lovely and very helpful. But they needed more training on food allergies and need to learn the difference between a vegetarian and a vegan.
The grounds were absolutely stunning and the gardeners must work very hard.
The hotel rooms are very old and tired, they don't have Aircon in the bedrooms which is nowadays must, we were there 3 days in all and the room was 40° degrees the first night, 38° and then 36° all they offered us was a fan which just moved hot air around! Although the bath tap got very hot water the shower never did!! The hotel was very full and the waiting staff, who were lovely, could not keep up with demand, and by Monday they had even run out of a lot of things even butter sachets (basic)! No one had ordered more over the weekend. The reception staff were not helpful at all, all in all would not recommend or go back.
Relaxed and beautiful setting
Beautiful a lot of characters
Nothing
The scenery was beautiful
No air conditioning in rooms, payed the same price as family who also stayed to get the smallest room with less facilities
Breakfast was extensive and catered for all tastes.
Basin plug in bathroom didn't work sufficiently for the basin to hold water.
The whole experience
Nothing
Staff were so helpful and friendly
No aircon
Good leisure facilities, looks impressive from outside
Living on former glory, v tired inside. Bedrooms curtains closed when arrived , but when opened showed a brick wall 3yds away. Shower still cold after 15 minutes although basin tap produced warm water. Dining room looks like a public school dining room from the 1950’s but some good places to eat in town.
The location and historical venue
One older staff members customer service skills in the bistro could have been better, felt like you were putting her out
Inexperienced bar staff passion fruit cocktail was shocking half glass and poor taste waste of money
Room 33 shower pressure and temp not working as should reported to reception
Floor in 102 could have been swept debris under chair
£15 extra charge to use pool
