Would definitely stay again
Pros:

Clean and comfortable rooms,staff very welcoming and lovely food. Just want to point out dogs are not allowed in the rooms but are very welcome in the bar.

Pros:

Location of the accommodation.
Friendly staff.

The bathroom smell was like a mens public toilet, couldn't keep the door open as it smelled to bad.
The sofa crammed next to the bed making it very awkward to get into bed.
The noise from people outside the pub.

Our experience at the Granby Hotel in Whitby was shockingly poor. We booked two nights (8–10 September) through Booking.com, where the hotel was listed as dog‑friendly. Check‑in was uneventful, but as soon as we reached our room a staff member ran up the stairs shouting that dogs were not allowed. The tone was aggressive, humiliating, and completely unprofessional, especially as this happened in front of other guests.

We calmly explained that the listing stated dogs were welcome, but the staff member continued to speak to us in a hostile manner and phoned the manager, repeating that we had booked through Booking.com — clearly suggesting this was a recurring issue.

We were eventually told we could stay “fine, I guess,” but only if our dog was “absolutely quiet,” and that they would have to explain to everyone that this wasn’t normally allowed. At that point we felt unwelcome, embarrassed, and uncomfortable remaining in the building.

We spent an hour searching for alternative accommodation, found nothing available at short notice, and ended up driving four hours home. Booking.com later confirmed that the hotel changed its pet policy after we booked and never informed us. The hotel also ignored Booking.com’s attempts to contact them.

This ruined our holiday and left us out of pocket. We would strongly advise checking policies carefully and being prepared for poor communication and unprofessional behaviour.

You do not go to Whitby to complain. Seagulls fly everywhere over the UK. Enjoy the sights.
Pros:

No breakfast. Location is Whitby. Prior knowledge is an adavantage of the place is a bonus, but would be a let down for first time visitors. Unfortunately, due to nature of building there is no ameneties for disabled. THIS IS NOT THE OWNERS FAULT. I would not be able to comment on the food as I did not have a meal there. However, I only saw empty plates being returned. A fair array of drinks available at a local Whitby price. You have to be fit as it is a walk down into town, and of course the long walk back to accomodation. Please do not expect more than what you pay for, and remember; your are visiting a beautufl town, so accomodation of any sort is short.

Cons:

No matter where you go, there is no place that can cater for each individual. Certain areas in the town, however like to exploit the fact you are a tourist or a visitor and will take advantage of your purse strings.

Pros:

Friendly helpful staff on arrival, very nice apartment, clean and bright, the bed was so comfortable, I slept very well, it is very quiet at night considering such a central location and you don't hear other people coming and going slamming doors which is the case in most places and you end up being woken up every so often, obviously when you pay to stay somewhere the most important aspect is getting a good sleep, so I was very impressed overall and would definitely stay here again.

A real gem
Pros:

The staff were extremely welcoming. Hassle free check in. The rooms were really well decorated and comfortable. The family room was perfect with having the two separate bedrooms within the same accommodation and there was even a view of Whitby Abbey out of one of the rooms. The shower was very big and spacious. Location was also perfect and we had a really tasty evening meal downstairs at the Granby which was amazing value.

Cons:

The curtains weren't thick enough to block out the light.
