Fantastic location, exceptional staff who exceeded every expectation. Beautiful heritage property with stunning original features. We stayed in one of the apartments - WOW! Spotlessly clean and outstanding food and service. We will be back!
Exceptional hotel with amazing staff. Perfect location for a city tour and easy access to the city wall
Restaurant was also good
Front desk/reception staff were excellent. Very helpful in directions to restaurants/pubs, attractions and parking. Robyn and Eveln(spelling) were exceptional.
Great location inside walled city, easy walk to everything.
Staff personable and helpful.
Room large and well appointed. Mini-balcony with view to cathedral and wall.
Breakfast was cooked to order and delicious. Fruit was fresh.
My wife says the bed should have been softer, like most American hotels, and the pillows smaller and softer.
Good location, clean and comfortable. Brilliant breakfast.
Slightly overpriced

Staff so friendly and helpful
Apartment was fabulous. Lovely welcome pack
We have stayed at the Bishop's Gate quite a few times and have never been disappointed. We received a very warm welcome from Stephanie at reception. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she even sourced a second set of keys for us. We normally stay in the Alexander apartment in Palace Street but that was booked so we were in the 2 bed duplex in London Street. Everything was fine but we have been spoiled with the Alexander. The duplex is much smaller and only has one bathroom which was difficult when there were 4 of us staying there. Also the living room and kitchen are on 2 different floors which was a bit of a nuisance. The apartment is on the 3rd floor so there are lots of stairs. The shower didn't drain very well but we reported that to reception when we were leaving. We ate in the bar and the food was gorgeous and the staff were all lovely.
We recently spent two nights at the Bishop's Gate Hotel during our road trip around Ireland, and from the moment we arrived, we knew we had chosen somewhere special.
Our first impression was pure magic. We were greeted by Robyn at reception, whose warmth and genuine friendliness immediately made us feel welcome. She took the time to explain the hotel, recommend things to do, and share a little of Derry's fascinating history. It was such a personal touch, and my husband even commented on how lovely she was. First impressions really do matter, and Robyn set the tone for a wonderful stay.
A special mention also goes to Kaisi, who had our luggage whisked from the car to our room in what seemed like no time at all. Considering we travel with far too many heavy suitcases, her cheerful attitude and willingness to help were very much appreciated!
We had booked a Deluxe Queen Room, and while I was initially a little disappointed by the size, the room itself was immaculate, thoughtfully appointed, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable, ensuring two great nights' sleep. Our room overlooked Bishop Street, although the window was positioned quite high, limiting the view. The bathroom was spacious and functional, although it could benefit from a few cosmetic updates.
What truly sets the Bishop's Gate Hotel apart is its people. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, professional, and genuinely eager to make our stay enjoyable. That level of hospitality is becoming increasingly rare and deserves recognition.
We also enjoyed dinner in the hotel's restaurant, where we had another excellent experience. The food, service, and atmosphere were all outstanding and complemented our stay perfectly.
The hotel's location is another major advantage. Situated within Derry's historic Walled City, it's an ideal base for exploring the Bogside, the Peace Bridge, the city walls, museums, restaurants, pubs, and all the history this remarkable city has to offer—all within easy walking distance.
While there are a couple of small areas that could be improved, they were far outweighed by the exceptional service, cleanliness, beautiful character of the hotel, and the genuine warmth of everyone we met.
Thank you to Robyn, Kaisi, and the entire Bishop's Gate Hotel team for making our stay so memorable. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Derry.
The lovely experience started as we arrived. The reception staff could not have been more friendly or helpful, from taking our car to be valet parked, to making sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The bar and restaurant staff were equally welcoming. The food was excellent, the room was comfortable, and the position excellent. We would definitely recommend!
