The Colleagues were really helpful and friendly
The room could of been a bit cleaner. there was a lot of dust on the surfaces
Lovely location with a beautiful outdoor area. The hotel isn’t super modern or newly renovated, but it’s still very nice, cosy and welcoming. The surroundings make it a really pleasant place to stay.
Unfortunately, we did get stuck in the lift during our stay. There were four of us, but we were still within the stated weight limit. It was a little scary, particularly as one person in our group struggles with claustrophobia.
The team responded, and we were out within around 10 minutes. The gentleman who initially came to help was very polite and reassuring. Although it seemed to be the first time the team had dealt with this situation, we really appreciated their efforts to work out what to do and get us out safely.
What disappointed us was the manager's reaction afterwards. She repeatedly said there was a sign stating that a maximum of three people were allowed in the lift, which made us feel as though the incident was our fault. We checked afterwards, and there was no such sign. Once we were out, one person in our group was laughing loudly because she was uncomfortable and trying to cope with the stress of having been trapped, but the manager's attitude made us feel almost as though we should apologise for what had happened.
As the manager was leaving, I also heard her say that we had "ruined her day", which was particularly disappointing after we had just been stuck in the lift ourselves.
Accidents and technical problems can happen, and we don't blame the team for the lift getting stuck. In fact, we were grateful that they managed to get us out quickly. It was simply the way the situation was handled afterwards that could have been much more understanding and reassuring towards guests.
Aside from this incident, the rest of our stay was good, and the team were great.
Full of character the owner Elizabeth was lovely nothing was too much trouble room was big beds comfortable great breakfast options food was good.
Every thing was good
What really made our long weekend away was your receptionist Alison.
She is so very happy and friendly with great local knowledge, it was a great surprise when she told us she has only been working at the Caledonian since March.
She really is a credit to the hotel.
Nothing
Inside the hotel was clean and the room was clean including the bathroom
The shower ran hot and cold, couldn't get a constant temperature, Hotel grounds were a bit untidy and rough. Restaurant menu was okay but not impressive. The hotel seemed to be geared up for coach trips.
Good location for near by towns
Interesting looking building but tired in places
Luke warm welcome, find your own way to your room without directions
Car park was full with random cones dotted around so not entirely clear where best to park
Hotter than the sun in the rooms and no offers of a fan
Tired building could use new carpets
Nothing except location
Not clean, no fans, no respect for request of rooms near each other
Staff very friendly..comfy clean beds and bedding ... staff sorted out broken hand rail in bath room very quickly . But great value for money
Very dated and scruffy rooms ....bar closes at 11. .sometimes did feel like a old person's home
There are bars and pubs walkable as well as the beach.
Rooms were very hot.
The entertainment!
The bedroom was very basic, the lights were poor, and the bed was quite uncomfortable. I thought the breakfast was very disappointing and I didn't enjoy it at all.
There was the bare minimum in the room for a 3 star
The chairs outside the "ballroom" on the patio were so uncomfortable as well.
I'm sorry to say that as an Independent Travel Agent I will not be recommending this Hotel.
A shame really, as it made the reason for coming to the IOW to surprise & celebrate my brother's birthday who lives in Ryde and my recent birthday a little bit shoddy.
The hotel has a whiff of faded glory. Its in nice large grounds and seems to cater for the bus tour bingo crowdz but thats all good. Cant complain as it was good value and catered for our needs.as cycle tourists. One small thing, they dont have a bike store any more. Last time they did but it seemed to have asbestos so a danger.
A classic building, gorgeous garden, great parking, friendly staff and clean comfortable room. Particularly loved being on the ground floor, as we had our little dog with us. Loved swimming in the sea.
All good.
Bed very comfy
The whole place is run down. Needs a good sort out, externally needs a decent clean up, fag ends and weeds everywhere. All plants that have dried out and died should’ve been removed. Gardener blamed squirrels for the mess (and fag ends???). Like walking back to Kate 79’s early 80’s. Weak shower. Cleaners missed us one day out of 3 for some reason. Charged extra for our dog then made to breakfast in a ballroom all on our own because we had a dog! Not that dog friendly.
Rooms a good size with nice view over countryside. Good bathroom accomodation. Outside areas nice for sun or shade. Plenty of indoor seating. 10 minute walk to beach but quiet hilly.
Poor breakfast for relatively high price for what was on offer. No fresh fruit, yogurts or pastries. Just english cooked breakfast and two types of cereal.Had to ask for brown bread and eggs other than scrambled. Very busy in dining hall at breakfast due to high number of guests on coach parties. Breakfast only available 7.30 - 9am as mainly catering for coach parties leaving at 9am. Would have liked a quieter, less crowded breakfast and as on holiday later breakfast at least until 9.30. We therefore went for breakfast elsewhere after first day.
Near tourist attractions
Bathroom facility is not that nice and room seems old.
