Snorkeling Dream
Pros:

Puerta Azul was everything I had read about and more.
The walk through iconic Blue Door, down the pier into the water was always an exciting day. My main goal is this trip was to snorkel and that's what I did everyday for two weeks. The reef was a bit of a swim but it turned out to just be part of the underwater adventure.
I stayed in a cottage away from the waterfront and it was splendid. I felt like I was in the jungle. It was sparkling clean and refreshing.
What topped off the experience were the kind, friendly and funny staff. I had lots of laughs and they were always available to answer my many questions.
The property is just the right size. With only 9 cabins, it is private and exclusive.
I didn't have a vehicle but they connected me with a taxi driver and then through What's App I could contact him anytime so I had freedom to go to West Bay and West End.
One thing to note is that there is a minimum of 4 people for excursions.
Then there was the food. I ate at the restaurant for almost an my meals. Yum, yum, yum. I am still dreaming of the coconut flan.
Thank you to everyone!

Perfect place in paradise!!
Pros:

This was our second trip to Puerta Azul in Roatan. Prior to booking our returning visit we thought maybe we should try another hotel, but only for a hot minute. We knew from our prior stay at Puerta Azul that we did not want stay anywhere else and we are sure glad we did.

The property is a peaceful, tropical paradise!!! We stayed in the oceanfront bungalow that is just steps from from Caribbean Sea

We booked 2 snorkeling trips on site to West Bay and Pigeon Cay with Captain Edison. He was a lot of fun and very knowledgeable of the island.

The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel like family which makes this such a special place in our heart and can't wait to come back for a 3rd visit.

We enjoyed all our meals on site. Food is great. Loved the Curry and Pasta.

Talia and Antonio take great pride in their beautiful spot in paradise. We only saw 1 car the on the beach on our 10 night stay. . (Inside joke LOL if they are reading this.).

All you need in one little hotel
Pros:

Puerta Azul is now a part of my heart. It is a little gem on the Caribbean. They make sure everything is just right, simply perfect. The staff was consistently friendly and helpful. Safety is done well. Everything you need is right at Puerta Azul, but it's also easy to go exploring, which they also coordinate.

Perfect Hidden Gem Hotel!
Pros:

This was my first trip to Roatán and I honestly feel like I got lucky finding Puerta Azul.

I stayed a few nights and the hotel ended up being one of my favorite parts of the trip. It's small, quiet, and right on the water. Most mornings I grabbed coffee and just sat looking out at the reef before deciding what I was doing for the day. I enjoyed the sunsets at night from their private beach. It was all amazing.

One thing I really liked was that nothing felt overly resort-like. It felt much more personal. I met the owners, Antonio and Talia, during my stay and they were both really kind and happy to share recommendations and stories about the island.

I also booked a snorkeling trip through their snorkeling tour which leaves right from the dock at the hotel. It was fantastic and made everything really convenient.

The restaurant was another pleasant surprise. I ended up eating there multiple times because the food was consistently good and it was hard to beat the setting.

I'd stay here again without thinking twice!

Stunning, Intimate Beach Wedding Venue
Pros:

You're met with a certain kind of magic walking through the Puerta Azul (blue door). I had the honor of attending a wedding celebration at this resort venue, and the setting couldn’t have been more romantic nor the attention to detail better.

Against the backdrop of the expansive ocean, surrounded by beautiful floral arrangements, two friends shared their vows in a truly unforgettable ceremony. The detail in the decor was a perfect compliment to nature's already gorgeous backdrop. Sunset made the moment all that more special.

From there, we moved to a beautifully decorated family-style table at the Puerta Azul restaurant under warm Italian-style string lights, where we were welcomed with white tablecloth service and an absolutely delicious, fresh meal -- my steak was cooked perfectly! The beautifully designed personalized menu and place settings were a subtle but nice touch. The cocktails were also excellent: the Aperol Spritz, in particular, was the perfect beach wedding drink.

We ended the night dancing back on the dock under the stars, making memories that will last a lifetime. If you're looking for an intimate, tropical setting to share your most special day with your closest friends & family - look no further! Puerta Azul has the setting and the service to make it unforgettable.

Great place to disconnect
Pros:

We had a wonderful stay at Puerta Azul. From the moment we arrived, the staff and property owner were warm, attentive and eager to make our visit comfortable.

We stayed at a beach view casita which was perfect for us. The size was great with a comfortable king size bed.

We had breakfast and dinner at the property. The food is made to order and very tasty.

My day always ended having a drink at the newly built deck which maybe it extra special with awesome sunset views.

We also arranged a boat trip via the hotel to Cayos Cocinos which is a must. Stunning place.

Overall, we had a great stay and would recommend this family run hotel to disconnect in Roatan.

Magical Memories
Pros:

My husband and I (along with another very dear couple) just returned from the most wonderful stay at Puerta Azul, and I had to share what a fantastic experience it was. I truly value comfort, cleanliness, good service, and peaceful surroundings more than flashy extras — and this place exceeded every expectation.

From the moment we arrived, the staff treated us like treasured guests rather than just tourists. Every single person we encountered was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. The service was impeccable without ever feeling stiff or overdone. Someone was always there when you needed something, yet the atmosphere remained calm and private.

The hotel itself was spotless and our sea view suite was beautifully maintained every day, the linens smelled fresh, and all of the common areas were immaculate. You could tell Talia, Antonio, and their stellar team take enormous pride in the property.

What I loved most was how relaxing everything felt. Roatán is already beautiful, of course, but this hotel created such a peaceful atmosphere and it was so easy to unwind without any real effort! Mornings with coffee overlooking the water, gentle island breezes, quiet evenings under the stars — it was exactly the kind of restorative getaway everyone needs and we were privileged to have.

And the food — my goodness. Absolutely out of this world fabulous. Fresh seafood, tropical fruits, perfectly prepared local dishes, and desserts I’m still dreaming about. We found ourselves looking forward to every meal as an event in itself. Don't even get me started on Rum o'clock!!

If you are looking for a large, noisy resort with crowds and nonstop activity, this may not be your place. But if you want charm, tranquility, exceptional hospitality, and incredible food in a beautiful island setting, I cannot recommend this boutique hotel highly enough. We left feeling rested, cared for, and already talking about when we can return.

Beautiful, relaxing spot with a wonderful onsite restaurant and great service
Pros:

Beautiful, quiet little spot on Roatan; great staff, great facilities. We especially loved the dock with comfy recliners and hammocks. The breeze helps with the heat and humidity. Great snorkelling out on the reef as well!

Cons:

That you couldn't swim right off the beach because the water looked sludgy.

Fantastic, peaceful family getaway
Pros:

Loved everything about Puerta Azul. The property is meticulously maintained, in a peaceful setting and in close proximity to a beautiful stretch of reef. My kids (9 & 12) loved staying here, especially the hours spent swimming off the dock. We stayed 2 weeks and it was hard to leave. Looking forward to our next visit!

A truly wonderful place to stay
Pros:

An amazing place to be! I loved the cabins where we're could sit on the porch and see the wonderful species of Honduran plants. And frequently geckos crawling around. The cabins were immaculate. Someone showed up every morning to clean. Mostly when we were at the really good included breakfast. If you needed something you could just ask for it. We enjoyed all the meals we ate there. The chefs and the wait staff were great.

You could go on a boat for a snorkeling trip. We did that twice--the boat didn't just drop you off but you had a guide to point out things on the reefs you to you.

Most days we simply walked to the end of pier (through the blue door) and snorkeled from there. The reefs right there were wonderful: really great healthy coral and lots of different kinds of fish. Quiet, relaxing and adventurous.

The concierge was also great: in many places we stayed previously all they wanted to do was sell you something. She was both knowledgeable and helpful.

Because of the atmosphere of the staff, many of the other guests were friendly too.

We'll be back

Tropical, authentic mix of adventure and chilling!
Pros:

Another incredible week at Puerta Azul! My kids and I had the perfect combination of relaxation and adventure on our trip. The property is so gorgeous and laid back. My kids (ages 7-11) could enjoy time on the dock and in the water independently since the venue is safe and the water is shallow enough not to worry. The food was incredible. We had amazing chips and guac, the best island rice and steak. Breakfast is included which is a great perk especially with kids. The cabanas feel so tropical but also so clean and comfortable with a/c and a fan. We paddle boarded and swam on site and took a boat ride snorkeling which was a highlight. 10/10 recommend for an awesome and special family trip!

I'd go back for sure, but next time for a longer stay at Puerta Azul!
Pros:

The site is beautiful! Love the long dock and it's blue door! Lazing in the hammocks on the dock was great. Our room was a gorgeous and spacious private cottage, with one bedroom for our adult kids and the other for the parents.

Puerta Azul = Portal to Magic
Pros:

I arrived at Puerta Azul in shoulder-season (late Jan - mid-March, between rainy- and not-) and stayed for a total of 7 blissful weeks! (only interrupted by a gorgeous mountain rainforest adventure on the mainland). .
Whether tucking in for the excitement of a tropical storm over the Caribbean, or luxuriating in a gorgeous sunny day on the beach, with a few puffy clouds and a refreshing breeze, the blue door was a doorway to magic. Every day, when I passed through that door, just around sunrise, that was my mantra: "Let the magic begin." And it always did!
I felt so lucky to experience *both of the types of lodging that Puerta Azul offers: one of their 5 beachfront cabins, and one of their 4 garden (jungle!) casitas (which are equipped with a kitchen!)
Each had its own unique charm - but the unifying feature of everything about Puerta Azul is the thoughtfulness with which *everything* has been designed and executed - for natural beauty, for privacy, for comfort (the softest sheets in the history of the universe, for one small example...), for culinary delight (the whole red snapper was my favorite, though they offer options across the board, from vegan/vegetarian to steak), for help with transportation and recommendations around the island, for the wonderful ! 4-hr reef explorations in the resort's own (very comfortable) touring launch.
The staff are so warm and personable - it's clear that everyone, from the owners, Talia and Antonio, through the amazing manager Sasha, the brilliant kitchen and wait-staff, the hardworking groundskeepers/gardeners - even the night watchman - *everyone* really cares about their guests.
Puerta Azul's magic is in its quiet beauty. The sunrises and sunsets from the end of their dock over the Caribbean. Peaceful, incredible snorkeling, right off the dock, free from the hordes flooding the more well-known hubs of West End and West Bay. Whether I wanted to sunbathe, or read in the shade, there was always a hammock, a beach lounge, a sling-back chair available - all the comforts, none of the crowds. (Also, awesome margaritas!)
And yet it was super-easy to get everywhere I wanted, whether I was in the mood to mix it up a little, or just had some errands to do - someone was always at reception to help with recommendations, reservations, and transport.
If you ever get the chance to visit - do NOT hesitate! (it's actually even *better* than the website's gorgeous photos and videos suggest. Serious.)

We felt like we were part of the family and our stay ended too soon
Pros:

The staff were lovely and took such good care of us! We love the restaurant—the food while simple was super fresh and delicious—no need to go elsewhere for dinner. Snorkeling excursions were good and the local reef is fun—being able to go off the dock was nice.

Beautiful, peaceful place that feels like home away from home.
Pros:

Located in Sandy Bay which is 10 minutes to West End (in town) and 20 from West Bay (beautiful beaches next to larger resorts) with very few reasons to leave. Perfect if you want a quiet peaceful place to stay. This place feels like a home away from home. The staff is incredibly kind and welcoming and the long term stay visitors are just as friendly. I never thought I’d say this, but their Dock was Awesome! They provide assistance with fair priced cab services, and boat or snorkeling tours. The rooms have all the modern amenities you could want while still keeping a cozy feel. Wish we had more time here.
